Orlando is a pretty nice place overall. The main drawback is simply the weather - the summers are oppressively hot and humid. Additionally, since most of Florida is so geographically isolated from the rest of the country, you basically have to fly anywhere else. It takes 4 hours to leave the state by car - much longer if going through Pensacola. Insurance is also a legit issue with Farmers now leaving, granted many Southeastern coastal communities are facing the same thing. If you can deal with those issues, then Orlando is an excellent choice. For me, I'll consider returning to Orlando as a snowbird in 20 years or so.

@@barbaravyse660 Yeap, since we rarely go to the beach and are burned out on theme parks - we relocated to Colorado Springs a few weeks ago. It still gets warm here, but not nearly like Orlando - and we get relief at night when it dips into the 60s or even 50s. I can go outside and not feel like I'm about to burst into flames - I can even go walking or biking without having a heat stroke. The flip side is the winter, which is the real deal - but I like to ski - so it is worth the trade.

Celebration was Walt Disney's dream of the city of the future. The dream still lives in the hearts of many Floridians that love freedom and vision of a world that is better than what our fathers grew up in. It is a beautiful city and, as a native American that remembers its being built, I have watched its growth throughout the years and longed to be able to afford to live there in our very expensive economy. If that dream is taken away by outside influences would be tragic.

Not native but we moved from a lower salary market due to office relocation with the old salary. Changed jobs. Bought a home before 2020. The housing market is fast paced for well priced homes in and around Orlando. Prices have nearly doubled in five years in our area. You may do fine with a professional level salary. If you are entry level, you'll need to plan well with roommates or commuting by car from towns further out.

What he will not tell you is the families that work in the service industry that have been displaced by this craze of migration. There are dozens of new communities being built all over but most are at 70% vacant because of extreme cost of rent. Some housing developments are stalling because the market is overly saturated with expensive units that no one can afford to buy. Central Florida dominated by the service industry and fools like these are the reason why in the very near future the industry will collapse and they will be left asking who will make my latte?

Ken, thanks for the video! As a side note, you should think about doing a video of Wedgefield. It's a really lovely area out there for those that want more of a "rural" life. Also, housing prices do not rise as fast out there than they do closer to Orlando proper.
Orlando has really blossomed since the mid 2000's. My wife was in UCF med school back in the mid 2000's and Lake Nona was still cattle fields. There is a lot of tech starting to bloom in Orlando which is great as I am in tech, but with tech comes a decrease in housing affordability. Overall, there are a lot of great things about Orlando and some not so great. But overall, Orlando isn't a bad place.
Originally we planned to build a custom on some land we own out in Wedgefield, but we found out recently we are expecting so priorities changed. Being closer to daycare, to friends with little children, work and being close to schools all of a sudden hit us like a ton of bricks. We were lucky enough to snag a beautiful home in Laureate Park close to everything. The major trade-offs are Narcoossee traffic and a community packed in like sardines.

You emphasize Universal Studios and Disney Theme Parks so much, I think you're missing out on more down to earth activities Central Florida offers, like scuba diving and snorkeling, tubing down spring-fed rivers like the Wekiva, Shooting sports at one of several outdoor ranges that offer competition matches open to the public, the many hiking and biking trails that go everywhere, and the conservation areas like Econ State Forest, and of course, fishing, both freshwater in the many lake, and deep sea charters available off shore. And finally, don't forget the proximity to the Florida Keys for boating, fishing, and lobstering. The point is, Florida offers so much more than just orchestrated entertainment.

Been in the area since 1998 and love it here. If I were moving here today I could not afford to buy my own house! Prices have gone very high. My affordable 1998 house is now valued over $600K!

Honestly, the politics in dangerous areas is still driving people to leave for Florida, nothing changed and has only gotten worse and more chaotic. We bought three properties in Florida.

Central Florida is not affordable at all. I was forced to turn in the apartment because the increase in rent was so atrocious. Buying a home is also not that easy. Small old houses are going for almost 300k it's not affordable.

"Leprosy cases in central Florida account for nearly 20% of national cases
Rising evidence is pointing to the possibility that leprosy has become endemic in the southeastern U.S. with Florida being named among the top reported states.
In a recently published research letter regarding emerging infectious diseases, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that Florida is witnessing an increase in leprosy cases lacking traditional risk factors and recommending that travel to Florida be considered when conducting leprosy contact tracing in any state. All the people moving to Orlando has ruined the rental market, while not bringing any sort of growth to the job market.

I feel that’s a huge problem in general. They come here and want to bring their northern lifestyles and expectations and when they get here and things are different they try to force us to acclimate to their needs and opinions on everything, completely destroying the fabric of native Floridian life. Not only that Floridians are raised to respect and take care of nature because nature is 50% of our states income, the other 50% is tourism. People move here from out of town and they litter our streets, rivers etc.. because they aren’t raised to respect where they live or to respect themselves and others.

People that aren't from Florida usually get very confused when looking at today's prices, but they forget that for DECADES Florida was the place people "go to die" and that was a terrible marketing campaign against FL and in favor to big cities. While it's true FL has always been the place to retire, with the advent of remote working this entire equation has changed. It's no longer the place to retire, it's the place to LIVE. and to LIVE FREE. The trajectory of Florida was always up due to it being unique compared to any other state in the U.S., but now, it's not just going up but it's rocketing and will continue to do so as more technology and finance firms move their employees here. CEO of JP Morgan recently admitted that New York is no longer the place with the most JPM employees, it's now Texas. Things are changing. Are you on board or do you want to get left in the cold concrete jungle (literally).
