It´s a rare thing to find a CZcams channel that has managed to constantly provide great quality, entertaining (and incredibly aesthetic) content, that doesn't end up getting repetitive/boring over time! (I've been subscribed since pretty much the very beginning. I'm talking premiere pro/frame rate videos 5+ years ago!) You guys are awesome, really enjoying the overlanding vids!

Cargo netting was exactly the idea that came to mind for flexible organization for the back when you were complaining about a messy back. Camping can get wet/damp so keeping things organized with airflow is super important. Also steak and ramen looks divine!! 🤤
Nothing better than a steak cooked over open fire
If you’re a cold sleeper you probably won’t enjoy a double sleeping bag. My missus and I used to zip our sleeping bags together into a double, but unless you can manage to cuddle romantically all night it creates an open spot in between where all the warmth escapes. We now keep our sleeping bags and quilts to ourselves ;-) Quilts are definitely a more ‘open’ and flexible option.
For me when I go camping i like to have wraps. Prepare all the ingredients in advance and store them in ziplock bags. Wraps are amazing as they don't mind getting squished, unlike bread, and if you vary the ingredients you can do them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Oh, and they have the extra benefit of no dishes to wash afterwards! Otherwise you can look into dehydrated foods, or go all out and look at military rations.
Man, I am HERE for the Becki and Chris camping content! Re: camping quilts, I've used an EE one for years now and it's great for backpacking, but the tradeoff is that it's much draftier than a sleeping bag. Because it's so much lighter than a typical blanket or comforter, any movement just lifts it up into the air and cold air gets in. There are ways around it with straps and such that work to cinch it down, but it's just never quite as warm as I want it to me (disclaimer, I move around a bit when I sleep). I still use it, but if it's going to get down close to freezing, I'll bring my Nemo sleeping bag, even though it's a bit heavier. For car camping, I'll usually just bring a sleeping bag these days.
Also, the Dometics are great, I don't think you'll regret that purchase at all!
This is very helpful thank you! I was wondering if it was one of those grass is greener scenarios where the idea of the quilt is great but in practice not so much. Maybe I’ll stick with the dual Nemo’s and work on figuring out how to store them better! 🙏🏼
@@BeckiandChrisI use the cinch straps on my EE quilt in low degree weather and never had a problem… I love my EE BUT being able to move is a high value need for me and may not be for you . I do not want to be in a papoose.
@@igoslomobeing able to move is the most important, I get really claustrophobic in a sleeping bag so I tent to sleep with mine open unless it’s very cold!
For ladder storage, have you thought about hanging it on the inside of the bed rack panels?
For lunches - wraps are easy and quick. It's easy to pack, easy to make, easy to hold/eat on the go if you're still driving. (deli meat, cheese, smash avo, sauces/condiments, left overs, quesidillas, etc.) I also like soups/broths that just take a few mins to heat up in a jet boil and then can be sipped on in a thermos. You can pre-make them in mason jars and then just stop for a fuel/bio break, quickly pull it out and heat up the soup and put into some coffee cups to sip on while you continue your drive.
I work at events & find myself camping in my van & in tents literally every weekend. Sometimes for multiple days. The two best things I ever bought for cooking were a wok & a grill monkey. The wok allows you to put a decent meal together really quickly, which in my opinion is really important especially in winter, 7 the grill monkey is an absolute game changer! It lets you cook anything from steak to toasted sandwiches really quickly with a minimum of effort. Don’t know if it’s available in the US but it may be worth a look! Love the channel by the way, keep up the good work!
Have you considered doing a backseat delete setup? Seeing as it’s just the two of you. A company like goose-gear have some nice products. It makes the space much more modular and usable
I have but I use my seats a lot, gonna rig up something inspired by goose gear that I can remove while keeping the seats!
Love seeing you guys get into overlanding style camping! If you want to do an epic trip, come out to Oregon and we can meet up in Alford Desert! It’s one of my favorite spots!
Your setup looks great! We just got a larger vehicle with seats that fold down flat so we can do lil car camping trips. Our go-to lunch are sandwiches too. We use those plastic square flat sandwich containers to keep them from getting squished. Make them ahead of time, just add sauces or any 'wet' ingredients when you want to eat it so it doesn't get soggy. Also those small sauce packets you get from fast food places or diners are great for camping. Also, Breakfast burritos FTW!
Oh that’s a great idea so they don’t get squished! Smart call on adding the sauce later too, will stock up on the small packets!

raingler makes very good cargo nets (not cheap though), they have generic ones also. Maybe they are working on a Rivian one soon.
I’d suggest you guys look into doing a dual battery set up to be able to run the fridge and charge all of your gear/lights.

My husband and i have two double sleeping bags. One is heavier duty for colder weather (grizzly)and the other is lighter weight for warmer weather(stoic). We use the stoic double sleeping pad. We have a camp sheet set that we put inside to wash after camping from Amazon. We are in WNY and enjoy camping. Thanks for your videos!
Can’t wait to see more overland content from you guys! We love our electric heated blanket as well. For food, especially quick lunch on the road, we actually bring a small microwave. Yes, I used to say this as an “overland” joke😂 But how else can I heat up a sandwich or leftover food in 1-2 minutes with no set up or clean up? It is powered by an EcoFlow delta 2 max with fast car alternator charging. All our cooking and heating are full electric now.

Get lights that are powered using tripple As or double As, and if you are worry about single use batteries, get a bunch of rechargeable As and you'll not need to recharge while camping. 1 lesser item on your charging station.
35L in not to big for 2 people. And if you end up making camping adventure friends having space to assist helps. The battery pack is not needed, you need a 12v 2nd battery set up. If you dont drive enough to keep the 2nd battery charged a small solar panel on top of the roof top tent helps.
A lot of people use a cargo net between the grab handles above the doors on the back seat. Can’t put weight in there but anything light including pillows can go up there
As first time fridge owners, I’d definitely recommend a few good practices for running it efficiently so you can get the most out of it and if you aren’t yet ready to pull the pin on a full dual battery setup yet… To hopefully get the most out of your batteries and get you camping for longer!
1. I always recommend plugging the fridge in at home into the wall socket and getting down to temperature the day BEFORE you leave. I usually recommend around 2-4°C for a fridge. It’ll usually use more power when it’s cooling down so having at temperature will reduce the power output because it’ll only use what it needs to maintain the temperature and draw less power.
2. Pre chill or freeze your food (depending on what it is of course 😂) before putting it in the fridge. This allows the fridge to not work as hard trying to keep the food cool for the same reasons as above.
3. This is just a personal preference for me but I do like to pack the fridge and put the food into it last, so that it has the most amount of time on the mains power before putting it onto the 12v
4. If you can, plug the fridge into the car while you’re driving. Then plug it into the battery when you’re at camp. The main thing is to remember to do it! (I’ve been caught out a few times 😂)

Every year, we do three weeks from Louisiana to Colorado and as far as the Grand Canyon. With kids, its all about bins on bins on bins on bins. We also bring a couple of collapsible crates, which are nice.
Lunches. We do sandwiches. We put a bit more effort into dinner. Sandwiches are prepared and packed before we leave camp in the morning. It is just an extra ten minutes and helps fight off the call of fast food.
For the ladder, store it underneath the tent inside the bed rack or on the inside walls with quick fist clamps. oh, as far as the frustration and organization of gear, trust me, this takes a long time to figure out. I’ve been doing this for over 15 years and my gear has slowly evolved into a more minimal setup. The majority of the time people set up aren’t the same. It depends on how you camp, what you bring, and what your needs are, but you guys are doing great and I love watching the New “Overland” content you are putting out.
7:50 The traditional Persian camping food is joojeh kebab. It needs prep beforehand but it's really easy to make on the road ( the only thing you need is a campfire ) and is delicious! Especially if you add the right herbs to the yogurt, it makes for a very tasty meal!

With that great frame over the bed, I’d strap that ladder to the frame. Same for your waste/toilet bag. Just a thought.
We actually make those pita/Naan pizzas for lunch often. But we have them cold like a Lunchable and use a squeeze bottle pizza sauce for convenience.

I wonder if that ladder could be mounted onto the side of the bed rack? Looks like it's got some slots and what not that could work, especially since that's another piece of kit that should be fine if it gets a bit wet.
Great video explaining the real world challenges of car camping! For sleeping I'd recommend just a 0degF sleeping bag, and then tossing a couple hand warmers inside the bag with you. Years of winter car and tenting camping around buffalo and I've always been warm! Lunch meals are tough and I've defaulted to just going with a freeze dried camp meal so all I have to worry about is boiling water.

You may also want to check out the north face base camp gear box for a pantry. I use one for it and it's clutch for having a pantry ready at all times, and then use the netting on the sides for smaller items like spices and such.

Another great video, thanks 🙏 We have the Dometic fridge and it’s a game changer, you’ll love it. It does seem plenty big, maybe we could’ve been fine with the 25. But we loved it so much we got a little Iceco fridge for our EV city car. It’s nice in the summer time to put groceries in so you can keep running errands and not have to go home straight away. Your charging station that you’re going to make sounds super interesting, I look forward to seeing it. I like your sleep system, you have to try different things until you figure out what you like. We use regular quilts from IKEA and put them in a stuff sack and pillows from IKEA and the Exped MegaMat max 15, 6 inches thickness is so nice especially if you’re a side sleeper
For lunch with your setup, I recommend making various pasta/ rice/ noodle dishes at home, packing portions in ziplock baggies to reduce weight and space, put them in your fridge, then simply reheat them in a pan on your gas burner. These meals are faster to make than boiling water for instant packs, and it tastes a lot better, too!

I always look forward to Sunday cause I know these are coming. Seriously the best. I love camping. Lunch is always hard during camping. We usually try to do large breakfasts and then snacks through the day. Especially when were in the remote parts of Wyoming and Utah..

The Australians use a 12V "Travel Buddy" portable oven and put foods in to bake while they drive, hot and ready to eat later. Saw it on 4xOverland/Andrew St. Pierre White's channel.
Best solution is to unload every thing! Next put about 1/3 back. Discard the other 2/3. Next get two back packs and if it does not fit do not take it. I have been camping this way for the last 50 years. Toilet is ok though!
Looking at your roof rack, you could line the inside and outside with molle panels then you could mount all kinds of stuff, like the ladder, a shovel, some traction boards, etc. For power, maybe a solar panel mounted on top of the RTT, and incorporate an inverter in your power solution in addition to some onboard LifePO4 batteries.
Definitely could mount stuff to the inside of the bed rack! Unfortunately I can’t mount anything to the top of the tent we have, but if I end up with a more robust one solar panels could be a fun addition!
Heated blanket for camping pushes the term WELL toward the glamping end of the spectrum 🙂 (and that's not a bad end of the spectrum to aspire towards)

The problem with figuring out the right overlanding configuration for you is the absorbent amount of cost. Anything with the word Overland is increases the price tenfold. But for me trying different setups is half the fun. (Which is why I’m always broke!!!😅😅)
OH also, velcroing battery chargers to the top of the anker is clutch. I do this with ecoflows and they stay put to charge while driving

In the winter time if I have a cold sandwich and I want it to be warmer I just leave it in its package and toss it up on the dashboard. Modern vehicle seemed to push hot air out the blower at the top a little bit no matter where you have the rest of the vent set to. the whole dashboard gets warm. Ive made a bottle of tea there without issue. Overall I personally find that really annoying but it is handy when I want something warm without going through the time of boiling something.
Also 32oz sports bottles will handle boiling water if you pre-shrink Them with boiling water. They shrink by several oz, but they becom norrower not taller. If you dont have a handwarmer, fill the bottle with water, and toss it in.your bag to pre warm it, make tea and then you have something to drink when you wake up without getting up!
The sandwich on the dash is a great idea! I’ll have to remember that before I get to hangry 😂 the Nalgene hot water bottle trick is the best!

Oh sis. You are getting this down! I’ve had my 20 degree enlightened equipment quilt for more than a decade (ok, it may have some duct tape on it😊)… but I’ve used down to 10 degrees Fahrenheit (in Wind River Range) and had zero problems. I will never go back to a bag again. As for lunch, tortilla, peanut butter and banana is always my go to. Also love BLT wrap with cabbage instead of lettuce (it’s hardier), precooked bacon, mayo packet from 7-11 and picante packet for the tomato 🤷🏼♀️.

I've seen a lot of people store their folding ladder in their RTT (if you have space). Or get a large drybag (to protect from the elements) and store it in that in the bed of the truck.
As for food, watch some of @NorthernScavenger videos. Noah does an amazing job of back country meal prep (and he's in Nova Scotia, it'd be cool if you guys did a collab, and flew the Millennial Falcon up and met him out at a remote campsite).

Remember that the temp rating on the sleeping bag is the temp you can survive in that bag. It’s not the comfort rating. So always get a bag that rates much lower than the lowest temp you think ya might be in.
I think we would have been fine with just the bags and the heated blanket under us, but as a first time in those temps I was worried about the rating in the cold as well. I believe Nemo states that 15F is the comfort rating of that bag but I always add 10 degrees to be safe (made that mistake before 🥶😂)
For easy lunch on the road we usually eat a trail mix/Gorp mix. Sweet, salty and chocolate.

You’ll find the 35 will be too small. I have a 66L fridge freezer for 2 people. Use your tailgate and put the ladder and bedding in the tent.

Seems to me a solution to your problems is to either carry less stuff along with you, get a bigger vehicle., or buy a small trailer. As it is it looks like a Chinese puzzle getting everything into the vehicle and back out with things you need right now buried behind a dozen other things.
I don't like most dividers for one reason, they cut down on usable space. I once stacked together some dividers I was using and it surprised me that I lost close to 1/4 of useable space. I then went with cloth bags, which took up almost no space.
I think less stuff is the move for sure! Good call on the dividers I never thought of that!

I’m excited to test it out the nets and see what it’s like. It does! The truck has to be running to use it which isn’t super practical when working off the tailgate, but lots of 3 prong plugs inside for charging! Just need a spot to contain the things 😂

Off-topic question after seeing the state of the helicopter at the end of video: if they strip things down and rebuild the helicopter to that extreme degree, wouldn't it be almost easier for Robinson to just build a new helicopter entirely? What is actually saved at that point? :P

Although I do not car camp, I do travel long distance in my vehicle, and I'm always looking for better ways to eat. I find bringing hard boild eggs, wrapping prosciutto and other sliced meets around string cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, and nuts, are my go to high protein, snacks. Also, Costco canned chicken is great to travel with! Totally going to look into purchasing a simliar bathroom set up! Great vid 👏
