@KirstenJoerg • I’ve already had my DNA 🧬 done or, I would definitely taken advantage of this! All of my DNA is split between England 🏴 , Scotland 🏴, Wales 🏴, Ireland 🇮🇪 with bits from Norway 🇳🇴 and Denmark 🇩🇰. However, my husband’s DNA 🧬 is 90% German 🥰. With a surname like “Schrader” his ancestors are definitely German ☺️. We were able to trace his linage back to Prussia during Frederick The Great! I would love to know where both of your German ancestors lived! How exciting! 😊

It’s so nice that you found your heritage includes English, Scottish & Welsh, Kirsten! It’s very fitting. And, Jöerg must be an honorary of British heritage, from his love of all things British.
Well actually sometimes we have a particular ancestry but don't inherit these particular genes. Results even differ slighly between siblings. I know a brother and sister, the brother has a percentage of Baltic (like 10%) and in his sister it is replaced by something else. So you can well have ancestors that didn't give you any of their DNA.

I had so much fun watching this!!! OMG I could not be held responsible in those shops, I want it all. We did the same DNA tests, I’m 63% Italian, some English, Welsh and 1.2% Ashkenazi Jew, which I was so thrilled about because I’ve a lifelong fascination with Jewish culture and faith. When I lived in Victorville, CA, I discovered the "Carriage House Antiques Store", where I bought several things, including rare and beautiful furniture pieces for my home after I bought it. Now, it's all in storage and I'm back with family until my medical needs are met and until I can earn income to purchase a future place. Watchung videos on antique buying always makes me nostalgic on finding unique treasures with a history. My first big purchase was an 1894 mahogany secretary. I knew it was meant to be mine.
Kristen...don't say you can't sew, just say you don't sew. Basic sewing of curtains, placemats, tablecloths etc. is so easy. Anyone as clever and as hardworking as you are can certainly sew. It is much, much easier than editing a video. Purchase a sewing machine (second hand will do) take a few lessons and get going. You will never regret it. You don't have to make ballgowns, or upholster chairs, just a few things for the house will be fine. With your artistic talents and your good taste, you will soon be turning out creations.

No wonder this is Europe's largest antique center. With three buildings full of old goodies (from buttons and clothes, to china, furniture and teddy bears) you could easily book the entire week to explore it. And I bet, it will be worth it. Thank you for the tour, I enjoyed it, as always. 😊

A lovely episode, and useful to me in ways you might not have expected. I've just got my DNA results back from Ancestry, and was shocked to find that my well-documented German ancestors weren't German ethnically, but were Eastern European with a tiny bit of Russian. It really helps to see that this mix is not uncommon in German families because of population movement and historical border changes. I have so much reading to do on European history, but it's an exciting journey!

We can arrange virtual tours and shipping. Many overseas trade buyers visit when the Arthur Swallows and International Fairs are on at the Lincolnshire and Newark Showground. We have many small items that are easily posted if under 2kg to USA and are under £250 we can ship for £40.
I love your comment that the Barbour coat needs to come with a country house. lol! It made me chuckle, because I have an L.L. Bean version of it, but never had that thought. You two are SERIOUS antique lovers - I'm the only person in my circle of friends and family who could spend 5 hours looking at antiques!

I've loved looking through antique shops since I was twenty years old, I'm now 76 and still love antiques but don't need to buy anything these days but sometimes do. Being retired one has to be careful. You guys seem to always buy nice things, expensive too you, must have a very good income. I'd love to know what Joerg does for a living ie what his job is.

We have some wonderful charity & antique places here in Jersey, and our home is a 1936 house, which we've decorated & furnished in keeping with the era/style.... Great video! I had my DNA checked several years ago. I'm mostly English/Welsh/Irish/Scottish with German, Eastern European and Scandinavian. It's so interesting! I loved the antiques center. I would have to spend several days there. There is so much to see. Cute & cosy bed and breakfast. Food looked so good! It felt as if I were there.
You must come and visit us one day. There is a hotel across the road from us too - Hemswell Court. Plenty of nice B & Bs nearby too.
Kirsten, if you have Welsh blood you also have Cornish blood, genetically they are the same, the Cornish used to be known as the West Welsh 😊
We purchased a beautiful Edwardian mahogany dresser there almost 15 years ago-it’s so lovely! I had a young toddler at the time and barely had the time to go through one building! I’d love to go back- so many treasures there.
These are real quality, genuine antiques. So many so called antique stores in the USA are actually thrift stores, flea markets. My husband always used to jokingly say, "There is a very fine line between antiques and junk." Even in days gone by they made junk.
Oh such a joy to go along with y'all on your ventures!!!!!! I'm hooked on the beautiful patterns of the china and the vintage curtains!!! 🦋
