  • Dale Kreviazuk from UV Pools talks about leaks in your swimming pool. Have you ever wondered why you're adding so much water to your pool, or where all the water is going? The first thing you want to do if you ever suspect that you're adding too much water to your pool is to do the bucket test, we are not addressing that in this video, this is the second part of the pump test. What we want to do is since we've already determined by the bucket test of the pool is leaking now we want to determine if it's something in the pool shell like the pool liner that's leaking or more in the underground pipes. We want to mark the water level in the pool accurately, this happens to be a tiled pool, we don't have a vinyl liner here so we're going to use this grout line here as our measurement. We have seven tiles and we are right at the corner of the steps. Next thing we wanted to go to shut the pump off for 24 hours. To shut the pump off what you want to do is simply find the switch which happens to be right here and you turn it off. Your pump should go quiet and the motor should not be running anymore. You can also shut off the valve in front of the pump just so you don't lose the prime in your pump. Now that you shut your pump off for 24 hours what you want to do is check the water level in your pool again. This pool isn't leaking but for sake of the video to say you were down a half inch, the next thing you want to do is turn your pump back on and do the exact same test over 24 hours. So basically you'll see how much you lost with the pump off and with the pump on. If you're losing more water with your pump on it means you likely have a leak somewhere in the pool pipes if you lose the same amount of water, so you lose half inch when the pumps on and you lose half inch when the pump is off it likely has nothing to do with the circulation system and the pipes but more likely something in the pool shell like a hole in the pool liner.
