- This pair of Church's Shoes was way more work then originally thought. There was work done on these shoes by a previous cobbler and what was supposed to be just new welts, Swedish Bath, JR Soles and a few other things turned into a whole new leather footbed with a hand welted design.
These had so much small spots that almost made me want to give up on resoling these shoes from frustration.

Thanks so much for this video, and your others. I've been anxious to see how hand welted shoes are made. I have been reading about shoes for a few years now and you're the first person that's explained all of these processes in a way that makes sense.
Nice work
Wow, they turned out really nice.
Church’s are one of my favorite brands!
Touché as usual my man. Great work. Always cool to see what you do. My boots are as comfortable as they were before you did them. On point!
What would make the gemming and footbed rot like that? Would that be from water or excess sweat?
Wow! Very intensive. I applaud you and your skills. I have eight Church's leather shoes right now and one Church's white buck wingtip. I acquired then before Prada in Chicago on Wabash back in the day when they were still there. Not being aware of properly conditioning of leather, two pair have developed cracks in the leather upper. I wonder how much you charged the client for this job? Great video
Is this also referred to as “hold fast” construction when a gemming isn’t used to stitch to?
Have you ever resoled with Garat or one of the various Italian brands (like Volpi, Dusini or La Querce)? And if so, how do you like them?
I can’t say I have but have worked on thousands of pairs so maybe at some point years ago but can’t remember honestly
Toss'em if they aren't leather...quality first!!!
Those Church's Shoes...look like "corrected grain" leather. Meaning...they cannot be polished, or conditioned, because a plastic coating is applied to the leather. What a shame.
