I have the Remastered version of Lamb - when this tune comes on in the car, I have to be careful while driving - my attention (and every other functioning nerve) is completely stolen. What a track.
What a song! When they launch into the chorus...”I’d rather trust a country man....” The look on Steve’s shows that he still appreciates how good it is. Tom Bukovak recommended this song, as P Gabriel’s best vocal performance. I’d never heard it before. Thank you Uncle Larry🙂
What I like about these vignettes is the anecdote surrounding the recording locations and process, much in the same way as understanding how, where and why a painting was created.
It is amazing to know great musicians like Mr. Hackett carrying.the flag of prog rock. Classical; folk; rock; experimental music...all in one package. So much musical culture involved....good for those of the New generations who wants to take some effort in listening to music instead of only shaking butts ...
There's something about the way that break and the chorus on the album version, "I'd rather trust a country man than a town man. You can judge by his eyes, take a look if you can." the instrumentation and the way the vocals compliment eachother, it gives me gooseflesh each time I play that track. Fantastic work.
I get how new equipment gives one more control and a wider variety of options but making what was available back then work is what gives the original great sounds , atmosphere and colours
Good afternoon Mr Steve Hackett,it´s always a Love story for me listen "The lamb lies down on Broadway",it was my youth and it´makes part, yet ,of mine usualy listen music ,ihave 58 years old,and indded ,this teme and all album it´s a real master piece for all time ,I wish you all the good things ,and continue to make so good music for all our lifes ,thank you,,hug my friend.
Steve one of my favorite tracks from the Lamb. Very powerful and emotional. “ I’d give you all of my dreams, if you help me find the door, that doesn’t lead me back again, take me away”. WOW! You and Jo stay well...
Steve must be living over an Indian Burial Ground, or a Fountain Of Youth because he looks younger now than he did on those early Genesis films where he's sitting down to play!
there is a LIVE LAMB on the Genesis ARKIVE box set that is worth checking out..the entire album LIVE and the sound is fantastic considering when it was recorded.
Always loved the song, my favorite version was on the Archive, not sure why you'd be in anyway less than very happy with the guitar work on that one or the original also, but it's always good to hear another take. Thanks for all the music.
Steve even if you cant tour next year you can still play New Zealand. we are covid free and after your 2 weeks quarantine do the concert and then go on holiday in our lovely country. Better than sitting at home.
The Spanish guitar addition at the beginning is a wonderful addition. I've been extremely fortunate to see you play it live several times now, and i agree that Chamber is the best on the album (kind of hard to come to that conclusion at first, because there are many incredible songs on Lamb) Thank you for doing these videos. I'm sure many others agree that it's great to get insights about what lead to certain things in songs and the process of building the songs that have been a huge part of our lives.
Thank you Steve, I believe I asked you for this a few weeks back. Proves you listen to and respect your true fans, not that I had any doubt of that! Wonderful track, for me a highlight of the Lamb and your newer version is magical.
It's quite striking that, despite all the divergence and apparent misunderstanding of "Lamb" (Phil says he never really understood the story), it came out as a very unified whole. It's theme of embracing empathy rings true today. And the music is so wonderfully varied that it encourages an open-minded approach to new sounds.
I'm a sucker for bells in grandiose, epic rock music, and this is one of the best songs for that. (The swelling orhcestration/mellotron is sublime too.) The melody played on guitar and later sang is so plaintive, so reaching for something unreachable...pure emotional perfection.
I have listened to this album hundreds of times, and it really is a Prog masterpiece, delivering chills and never getting old, always revealing some nuance that I overlooked, before. Glorious. When passion is sophisticated, that is the high a Genesis or Yes fan adores.
Was great listening to that double album back in the 70s. must of been something to see Peter singing in the Slippermen costume. sounded like he was laughing on one live video in that thing.
Steve you do such a masterful job of creating a feeling of uncertainty and sorrow with your instrument in the beginning of the song. It's almost as if we are actually there and experiencing what Rael is experiencing. Thank you for that.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Very good version but I’m afraid nothing will beat the mysterious sound that was captured at Headley Grange. There was something intriguing about Peter Gabriel’s vocals and the way the tracks from The Lamb were mixed. Maybe you make things technically more perfect but music is like art and it doesn’t have to be perfect to please. Having said that I have the greatest respect for your skill and had a great time watching you live at Folkestone last year. You have a very skilled band and Nad does a very good job with the vocals.
Their is something about the sound of the original that cant be duplicated. Maybe it's the old wood in the place that gave it that rich dark feel, guess we shall never know. Many times long ago I would play this LP thru while under the influence of substances and just get lost in the sound. Those days r long gone but my love of this LP remains strong as ever
¨So if you trust the country man rather than the town man... I can`t ask them why...¨ Thanks Steve for sharing, the intro of ¨Chamber¨ and its guitar is so massive powerful, and the new arrangements a complete delicacy of musical touch.
a highlight of the lamb album indeed.so good to see you doing these vids steve, especially when you bring up little historical facts on the production. recorded at spooky Headley grange...tell us more.
My favourite track from The Lamb's first record/CD, with The Lamia being my favourite from record 2 (and my favourite of the entire album). Thanks for these little informative tidbits, they surely add to the appreciation of the music.
Have always found that juxtaposition of classical melodicism and country music on this track intriguing. It’s the kind of thing that, 9 times out of 10, falls flat-but here the subtle chord and tempo modulations simply work to delightful effect. Thanks for the focus on TLLDOB, Steve. Would adore hearing your reflections on tracks from Side Four-especially “Ravine”, The Light Dies Down”, “Riding The Scree”, and “In The Rapids”. But, whatever your subject, it’s always a treat to hear your playing! Best regards.
I remember the first time I listened to this on Genesis Revisited II. Following Steve's classical intro, Roger's rising chords were so controlled, smooth and powerful that they actually moved me to 'lumpy-thoat' tears. I have always loved the original on Mellotron, but this was on a different level. I still get that whenever I hear it now. Steve, please would you tell us about For Absent Friends. Again, it's so beautifully written and performed from my point of view. Thank you.
I hear black gospel in the refrain - I need someone to believe in...someone to trust. Always loved the whole arrangement of the piece-its dynamics, especially and how it fits with the pilgrim’s progress of Rael.
Yes, I know Mike Rutherford was just getting comfortable with lead guitar on "Three," and Tony made his keyboards sound like a guitar to hide that fact. But I think that's part of its charm.
I've always wondered how the songs would be on 3 if Mr Hackett had stayed. I don't think Mike ever saw himself as a replacement, those shoes are too big to fill. Funny, when I was first listening to older Genesis with Steve, I used to wonder where the guitar was. Later I realized much of what I had thought were keyboards was actually Steve on guitar.
Love your insights into the Genesis catalog. Having the artist comment on his own work is invaluable. BTW, Skye Boat Song and Time Lapse at Milton Keynes both translate nicely to piano. I am enjoying working them out and playing them. Loads of fun. Thanks Steve.
Thank you so, so much - I have been hoping this track would come up. Along with 'One for the Vine' and 'Dancing with the Moonlit Knight/Aisle of Plenty' it is my favourite track. It is so full of sound and depth - this re-mastered version makes me want to cry it is sooo good. Any chance you and Nad could drop it in for the Auckland show 2021??? cheeky request,,,,,,,,
Interesting, I was just thinking about this song, as I'm not sure where to turn, what decision is the right one. I thought 'I feel like Rael in Chamber of 32 doors'. Hmmmm
Really appreciate the enhanced guitar work on the new version. Pity you couldn't get PG to add a new vocal to it as well. It would have been interesting to hear his more mature voice on it.
I have the Remastered version of Lamb - when this tune comes on in the car, I have to be careful while driving - my attention (and every other functioning nerve) is completely stolen. What a track.
The whole LLDOB album is a Masterpiece of all time, and 32 doors is one of the best of the best. Bass work is also Perfect.
I love that smile. Pure passion.
A wry smile about who did what!
This album is a MASTERPIECE! Thank you, Steve!
What a great song! One of the best off the Lamb Lies Down!
Imagine wanting to improve on the guitars from the version on the Lamb album? A true perfectionist. Great music, Steve Hackett.
What a song! When they launch into the chorus...”I’d rather trust a country man....”
The look on Steve’s shows that he still appreciates how good it is. Tom Bukovak recommended this song, as P Gabriel’s best vocal performance. I’d never heard it before. Thank you Uncle Larry🙂
What I like about these vignettes is the anecdote surrounding the recording locations and process, much in the same way as understanding how, where and why a painting was created.
wonderful to hear thank you Steve Hackett: the magic of the Lamb lies down ...
One of my favourite songs ever! I love it!
What a talent , damn. I just love these videos
Men I wish Steve would go longer on these videos than a couple of minutes. Steve provides fascinating information about the songs.
Steve Hackett Album Metamorpheus my God , its your Genius for Genesis
1976 1977 was my senior year here in Cincinnati. I used to wake up playing this and the lamb. Didn't need any coffee and was ready to go to school!
It is amazing to know great musicians like Mr. Hackett carrying.the flag of prog rock. Classical; folk; rock; experimental music...all in one package. So much musical culture involved....good for those of the New generations who wants to take some effort in listening to music instead of only shaking butts ...
Awesomeness. You remain the most accessible member of the group and the most unassuming
Way more prolific as well, even though they've all released a fair share of albums and done quite a bit of touring.
This is the most relatable song on the album. It can bring me to tears every time.
A Great Version Of A Great Song!!!!! I Love It, Thanks Steve!!!!!
One of my many favorites!! Thank you again Mr. Hackett!!
There's something about the way that break and the chorus on the album version, "I'd rather trust a country man than a town man. You can judge by his eyes, take a look if you can." the instrumentation and the way the vocals compliment eachother, it gives me gooseflesh each time I play that track.
Fantastic work.
Could listen to Steve all day.
I'm buying this album.
I like the extra/new sound of the new version. A Majestic start for one of the most beautiful songs from the Lamb!
Great Revisited version...thanks for making it a classic of a classic.
Love it , goosebump time
I get how new equipment gives one more control and a wider variety of options but making what was available back then work is what gives the original great sounds , atmosphere and colours

I love this. Thank you Mr. Hackett. And I very much think Nad Sylvan has been an inspired choice to work with for you.
Steve one of my favorite tracks from the Lamb. Very powerful and emotional. “ I’d give you all of my dreams, if you help me find the door, that doesn’t lead me back again, take me away”. WOW! You and Jo stay well...
Nad's voice is a mixture between peter and phil!!
The opening is great.
Thanks Steve for that classic Gene track - Really.. a stunning piece of music. Will always cherish that album!
Steve must be living over an Indian Burial Ground, or a Fountain Of Youth because he looks younger now than he did on those early Genesis films where he's sitting down to play!
Love that version too!👍😊
One of my favourite tracks from Lamb. I like the lyrics on this a lot.
Y like this man, pure, simple ans very good guitarist(one off the best y like) and made uncredible mélodies and harmony with guitar 😗😉❤
One of Genesis' finest moments. I'm glad the new version retained that beautiful phased RMI piano...
The intro to this song, my favourite biy in the song is pure classic Genesis of the time and still moves as much as it ever did.
The centerpiece of the album for me. Each of the members of Genesis evidently chose different doors, as we all have to.
NS has really settled into the vocals. Had me on the edge of my seat when I first heard him. Big boots to fill.
I listen to The Lamb atleast once a day...
there is a LIVE LAMB on the Genesis ARKIVE box set that is worth checking out..the entire album LIVE and the sound is fantastic considering when it was recorded.

Those Fernandes sustainers are amazing!
I love you steve hackett!!
It's an amazing track. Really love this one.
Steve even if you cant tour next year you can still play New Zealand. we are covid free and after your 2 weeks quarantine do the concert and then go on holiday in our lovely country. Better than sitting at home.
I think, in general, I feel the same way about country music as you do. :)
The Spanish guitar addition at the beginning is a wonderful addition. I've been extremely fortunate to see you play it live several times now, and i agree that Chamber is the best on the album (kind of hard to come to that conclusion at first, because there are many incredible songs on Lamb)

Absolute magic thanks for that Steve
Love your vids Steve...never miss one!
(lamb) One of the great masterpieces of the 20th century of any art form.
Can’t wait to see you in Dec!!!!

Nice great version steve great album still turning them out thanks
Your chats are so interesting and entertaining, thanks!
Missed this remaster thanks for the heads up Steve need to get one on order PDQ :)
Truly one of THE Best songs from Genesis!
Was great listening to that double album back in the 70s. must of been something to see Peter singing in the Slippermen costume. sounded like he was laughing on one live video in that thing.
fuller sound, very nice.

Thank you.
What a boost!
Always one of my favorite Genesis songs. Love the acoustic guitar opening on the Revisited version.
One of my favourite songs of all time. Very good version but I’m afraid nothing will beat the mysterious sound that was captured at Headley Grange. Harold Burrows I didn’t need substances to enjoy!
¨So if you trust the country man rather than the town man... I can`t ask them why...¨
Thanks Steve for sharing, the intro of ¨Chamber¨ and its guitar is so massive powerful, and the new arrangements a complete delicacy of musical touch.
This song would be in my desert island disks. Have loved it for 45 years.
an amazing song overall love the new version! one of my favorite all time genesis guitar sounds is the electric guitar HERE it's beautiful
I adore the "country music" chorus.
This album was way ahead of the time it was produced.
a highlight of the lamb album indeed.so good to see you doing these vids steve, especially when you bring up little historical facts on the production. recorded at spooky Headley grange...tell us more.
One of my favorite songs.
My favourite track from The Lamb's first record/CD, with The Lamia being my favourite from record 2 (and my favourite of the entire album). Thanks for these little informative tidbits, they surely add to the appreciation of the music.
Always a highlight from The Lamb! Absolutely one of my favorite tracks from the PG era. This version is excellent as well.

Hi Steve brilliant version that makes your hairs stand up and applaud wonderful meaningful lyrics 😍 love to you and Jo stay safe and well 🙏❤️
LOL at steve...this track is and will always be a Genesis classic..I love the bells part....
Sounds great!! Gracias steve!!! Saludos desde argentina!
😊👍 thank you Steve 🇮🇹
This is the song with my father to left of me, my mother to the right...and so one, and the country man....
I remember the first time I listened to this on Genesis Revisited II. Fantastic! You should put your guitars on "and then there were three" ;)
Lolololol.
What a great idea. 👍
Yes, I know Mike Rutherford was just getting comfortable with lead guitar on "Three," and Tony made his keyboards sound like a guitar to hide that fact. But I think that's part of its charm.
Sure, Wind and weathering was the last best Genesis LP
I've always wondered how the songs would be on 3 if Mr Hackett had stayed. I don't think Mike ever saw himself as a replacement, those shoes are too big to fill. Funny, when I was first listening to older Genesis with Steve, I used to wonder where the guitar was. Later I realized much of what I had thought were keyboards was actually Steve on guitar.

One of the greatest songs in the history of music: period. The Lamb is beyond a masterpiece, whatever that's called.
A master masterpiece.
@@rubicon-oh9km By George, I think you've got it !! It is indeed...
Beautiful! Steve’s intuitive and inventive approach to guitar gave the music of Genesis an edge.
Great stuff Steve
Steve, your playing is always top draw. I loved the use of the mellotron, on the original. But this is a very interesting version.
Underrated song from The Lamb, I think. One of my faves for sure.
The most underrated song on "The Lamb..." is "Anyway". One of my favourite tunes ever!
@@terrypussypower Absolutely agreed. Also "The Lamia"
I've always thought this beautiful song should have been the closing track on The Lamb album.
Nah, wouldn't have worked as the last tune, it's too down beat.
I've had a Fernandes since 1993. Wish I could play it :(
Interesting, I was just thinking about this song, as I'm not sure where to turn, what decision is the right one. I thought 'I feel like Rael in Chamber of 32 doors'. Hmmmm
Isn't it about time you changed your shirt? Love these quickies but you always leave us wanting longer.
Really appreciate the enhanced guitar work on the new version. Pity you couldn't get PG to add a new vocal to it as well. It would have been interesting to hear his more mature voice on it.
