  • For my Presets visit: johnnathancord... The @Schecter Guitar Research Nick Johnston Diamond Series might be the guitar that I've been asked my opinion on the most out of guitars I've never tried. It's actually uncannily similar to looking at a Sire neck which I wasn't necessarily expecting.

      Mine had slight fret sprout, (nothing too major) which would be the fault of the online retailer i used rather than Schecter I suppose. other than that its been good, especially after lowering the pickups a tad. stays in tune great. wish I would have went with the all maple neck, I think it looks better than ebony for a strat style guitar.

      Have owned both the HSS maple neck and SSS ebony. My HSS also had a random ding on the headstock, I didn't like how low the trem bar sat on the body and I really didn't care for the pool route. I did prefer the ebony SSS, kind of a weird love/hate.
      Currently have a '92 USA Custom Shop PT, just a great guitar!

  • @scott_pinzon
    @scott_pinzon Před 2 lety +18

    I've owned the HSS version of this Nick Johnston Schecter for about six weeks. (I'm simply unable to afford the top of the line famous brand guitars that typically run 3000 USD or so.) For a sub-1000 USD guitar, I think it's incredible. Locking tuners and a graphite nut are nice quality touches, but my favorite "feature" is -- as we saw in your demo -- the intonation, fabulous all up and down the neck. I'm not a dive-bomb tremelo guy, so the guitar holds tune like crazy. I like the combination of fairly traditional-sounding pickups with (what I consider) a more modern flat fretboard. As John said, this guitar is perfect for the in-between player who's not a beginner but is not ready to pay professional studio player prices for a guitar. With the HSS, the tonal variations give me plenty to explore and grow into. Thumbs up from this happy user!

    I don't mind subsidised reviews as long as clean tones are presented and relevant, objective information is given. When someone tells me the neck is "so comfortable" as if it were carrying any information I can use, honesty is of no value. Measurements are best, comparison to known profiles are fine, "comfortable" means nothing. When someone focusses on distorted tones, all that is demoed is the amplifier.

    I work at a guitar store and played this recently. I play Ibanez's and have never felt like playing Fenders. This guitars neck immediately felt comfortable. Flatter fretboard, a bit thinner and wider neck profile. The build quality is nice and I liked it enough to put the order in for myself! (Will replace pups and tuners tho)

    I bought the HSS version of the Schecter and a Silver Sky SE. I then compared them with my Charvel DK22 and my Fender Road Worn 60s Strat. The Schecter is definitely a lovely guitar, I loved the neck and the look. But for me in the end I sent the Schecter back. It wasn’t different enough from my DK22 and I thought the Seymour Duncan pickups in the DK22 were better for a modern hotter sound. I have kept the Silver Sky because it gives me a different feel and tone that I don’t currently have and certainly the one I got was really well finished and only needed a small tweak of the truss rod and a couple of saddles lowered. However, for me the best of the lot was the road worn Strat based on articulation and tone of the pickups plus the overall vibe of the guitar. The only downside being the dreaded screw in tremolo bar!

      @@johnnathancordy The high E string kept breaking right at the bridge saddle. I couldn’t see or feel anything obvious that would cause it. The locking tuners weren’t great and would come loose and the strings would pop out. The one I got also looked like the strings themselves weren’t positioned well on the fretboard - almost like the neck was on just a little bit crooked. I liked the sound but the problems were too annoying so I got rid of it. It’s an unfair comparison but it just felt like junk compared to my Suhr guitars. Both of them are a Basswood body and I wanted an Alder body strat that wasn’t too expensive - that Schecter is a good candidate

    My buddy got one of these and he brought it to me to setup. Usually I find a lot of strats (and copies) need neck shims to give some tilt to the neck for a good setup. This one though had a good angle and it was super simple to work on. It sounds great but, the feel to me for some reason just didn’t click. It is like the fretboard felt wider than what I was used to, so the feel for me wasn’t there. I think to add a bit of context to this I also have a Kiesel Bolt strat copy with a 14” radius on the fretboard so I thought this would feel seamless but, there must just be a slight difference in the neck shape that throws me off.

    I actually had a S-S-S NJ model up until 2 months ago.. I found it to be a very solid guitar for the money, however, the neck was far too slim (subjective) and the pickups were dark and dull (again subjective) for me, it was just blah guitar in my opinion. I also thought the locking tuners were a bit too cheap feeling. I ended up selling it to fund a 1989 Fender Strat which had the neck I loved and the quack of the pup’s that I wanted. I would say I didn’t hate the NJ, but it was not being played, so it went toward a guitar I love. All in all, I’m happier without it. And yes, I immediately discount posts that are sponsored by a brand, so I appreciate buying it and being more candid.

    dont like the sire , hate the glossy 91/2" board. and they feel cheap, This one i like the ebony board ,14" board and extra jumbo frets. The tuners are nice after i inject some synthetic grease in them. I like the neck joint and the trem is decent. Not sure about the pickups yet , I hate the refrigerator white guard on any guitar, I will replace it with a rosewood one and only use the 2 bottom holes plugging the one near the vol control, I compare this actually to the $500 eart strat from amazon. That has roasted neck jumbo stainless rounded frets , COUMPOUND 9-14" Rosewood board . Very good build quality. Schecter makes many guitars with boring dreary colors or toyish colors , mine is the green , Wish they made some classier colors perhaps with matte finishes, On another note i really like my G&L s types. They have the best trems. Godin makes some nice ones too. Nice playing !

    Does It include case? (Even my 650$ ibanez js includes a hard case)

    Why did you just use a bread and butter knife to open that box? Couldn't you have found something bigger? 😄

    Which one do you prefere the sire s7 or the NJ schecter ?

      Very similar vibe to be honest - I think personally I dig the inlays on the Schecter a little better, and the lack of the glossy fretboard (maybe the headstock looks nicer too?) - but the neck of the Sire is a bit thicker? I think

      You're not getting a roasted maple neck, graphtech nut, heel adjust truss rod, or locking tuners with the Silver Sky. The specs seem to be a lot better for the Nick Johnston on paper
