Honestly the HORNS in this song is so bold, like I would never imagine hearing that sound in "kpop". Love it
they had horns on some of 2nd gen kpop groups like B3AST song called Queen and Super Junior's songs too so they ain't the first to use them. It's just that nobody has brought them back in awhile.

The director actually pointed out two key scenes in explaining the MV.
The video starts with NewJeans menbers calling Eva to tell her that her boyfriend is supposedly cheating. By the end of the song we see Eva drive to a cliffs edge, as a piece of her boyfriends shirt is hanging from the trunk.
Shin Woo Seok the director replied to a fan on Instagram of the storyline with an explanation.

Thank you so much for enjoying this music video. However, I don’t prefer explaining every little detail about my projects after I have finished them. So, it will be difficult for me to offer a specific explanation. So, staying within the limits of what I can say, with “ETA,” I wanted to portray a story about “rumors.” In modern society, we all come across truths that we haven’t witnessed first-hand, and we need to determine the grounds to believe them. During that process, many truths become distorted and exaggerated. NewJeans, who happened to be delivering the rumor in the story, were also subject to these processes.

Two specific details pointed out is the discrepancy in the timeline. The time when Hanni makes the call and the time Eva answers don't match. There is also the hair tie that is seen at the very beginning, which reappears at the end of the song again. Making viewers thing events are happening simultaneously, but in reality, Eva has already murdered her boyfriend, and the video shoes her on her way to dispose of the body.
The second detail is the unreliability of the narrator, NewJeans. The girls do tell their friend that her boyfriend is unfaithful but the MV shows no explicit evidence of it. The scenes where the guy is kissing another girl ARE just Evas imagination after she refuses to answer her phone when the NewJeans members call her.
According yo Shin it is to portray how invalidated information can spread with todays communication, and it can often lead to drastic consequences.

NewJeans is the most all rounded group, in terms of sound, music, style and pretty much everything. It’s crazy how they how no bad song. And also amazing how they co-write their music. They are on another level and they’re most likely the future of Korean Pop

ETA Theory: the underlying theme throughout Newjeans MV’s is that they aren’t really there. They are an outside presence helping and supporting whoever the main character is. Notice during the first phone call you can hear Dani saying “we have to perform”. Indicating that they are an idol group not her real friends.
In ETA, (opening scene in the car) you can see the emerald (emerald represent life and renewal) next to the phone. Later on u see the same emerald bracelet on the cheating bf when he’s on the car hood with the other girl. This indicates everything in the MV already happened while Eva in the car is the present.
The scenes that follow:
Eva looking the the rear view mirror seeing her bf and other girl kissing
Eva in the car in the pool seeing her bf and other girl kissing
Newjeans in the gas station(with mics on)
Newjeans as cops
Newjeans in the car with her driving through the tunnel
Eva (kinda) running over bf(does that look like a couple who’s been run over?! Nope) They staring at her lol.
THIS is all a fantasy. Imagining Newjeans are her friends who are looking out for her and spilling the tea. Believing all the rumors of her bf cheating and then imagining when and how he cheated: pool party, swimming pool etc. Fantasizing about running him over. People who’ve been cheated on will sometimes fantasize about getting back at the cheater. Revenge fantasies it’s called. Though most don’t do anything of course.
The ending scene: The underlying theme of some of Newjeans MV’s, they are there to support and comfort. Ditto, Cool with You.
Eva, with the help of Newjeans (we see Hanni and Minji in the car mirrors) finally gets over the cheating bf. The shirt in the trunk and the running over is a metaphor for her finally getting over it and ridding herself of all the pain and angst from getting cheated on. So, no, Newjeans is not advocating violence when cheated on, lol.
Another brilliant project by the same director as Ditto and CWY, represent the parasocial relationship between idols and their fans. How music and their relationships with singers can help through the most difficult times in life.

Or the driver's boyfriend never cheated, none of that stuff happened it was all in her head which is why Newjeans was everywhere outside of the party but NewJeans calls made her crazy and she ran him over killing him. The reflections in the rearview mirrors were of two of the NewJeans girls who instigated the suspicion and are indirectly at fault causing the driver to get rid of the body. allegedly, lol.

The horns are inspired by the genre Moombahton and definitely Major Lazer's sound influenced. The drums are an interpretation of Jersey bounce and something reminiscent of the 90's dance scene, especially the drum patterns. 808s sound like My Boo by Ghost Town DJs
The crazy thing is that they laid out a jazzy r&b/Rhodes piano with a dark low-key melody on top of all this madness which contrasts so insanely well. Don't think 99 percent of people will appreciate how creative it is.
@@ricerice566 yeah! Jersey club is my first reaction, but also slightly different, I guess Moombahton is the right call. they did this jersey style in couple of their new tracks this time, also adding different flavor such as uk garage and stuff, top notch production right there!

Jersey club was originally created as a faster, more kick-centered style of Baltimore club music, but these kind of horn-based bclub songs have been around for a while, "DJ Debonair Samir - Samir's Theme" (and it's more modern interpolation Dj Sliink & Sinjin Hawke - Raw" and "DJ Pharaoh - DJ Excluisve" are good examples of Baltimore records that feature chopped up horn samples.
