Location: Bangkok, Thailand to Hanoi, Vietnam.
Traveling from Bangkok to Hanoi was a treat in comparison to the rough overland travel we'd grown accustom to over the past few weeks. Today we flew from Bangkok (BKK) to Hanoi (HAN) via Veit Jet.
Veit Jet offered the cheapest price between Bangkok and Hanoi. I had read some bad reviews about the airline. However, I have to say that our trip from BKK was HAN was very enjoyable. Checkin at the Bangkok Airport was a breeze, and flight left and arrived on time.
Once we arrived at the Hanoi Airport, things didn't quite a smoothly. Immigration took at least two hours. Then we had trouble finding the public bus into the city center of Hanoi. However, we quickly forgot all of our problems when we were upgrade to a suite room at the Hilton Garden Inn Hanoi!

I don't know how you guys keep your composure during moments like this. You got lost, you went on a random bus, the locals point you to a random taxi, you don't speak the language. That's so scary but at the same time, so so awesomeee

If you were Vietnamese you that pho is a common food that is pretty cheap in USD but in VND 50,000 is like 5 or less in USD and a like lottttt of people in Vietnam eat it like a LOTTT. I love it a lot my grandparents and uncle has a house there and I come their like once a year because for 3 people plus one because my aunt comes.

aww you got scammed by the taxi driver . We Vietnamese DO NOT charge person in the taxi , you just have to pay what's on the taximeter . So sorry about that

So I moved to China 3 years ago to start teaching English because I was inspired by you guys to start traveling. Next week I’m moving to Hanoi for the same reason, and watching all of these vlogs again has me so excited 😁😁

I am so excited to see you guys in Vietnam. I previously worked with a woman who was originally from Vietnam, and she once brought me a gray mother of pearl seashell bracelet back from her travels. I've always wanted to see more of the country she was from. I have always been in awe of how hard she worked so hard to make a life for herself and her family here in the States.

I am loving watching these in quarantine!!! I went to Hanoi after college and stayed right near where you did at the Lavender Hotel Hanoi- it was one of the nicest hotels I have ever been to, the best staff, free laundry (done for you!), escort to a custom tailor where I had a dress made, AND free breakfast- it came out to $26US a night! I have spent more on hostels in Europe! First thing I did was go around the corner to the ATM to withdraw my first time being a millionaire! I loved it there so much, I'm glad you did too!

We don't purchase the taxi money base on the number of people in the taxi in Vietnam ! :(( that taxi driver is a liar :(( i feel shame as a Vietnamese. I apology :((
To be fair, taxis are basically a rip-off everywhere in the world, and the cheapest taxi ride I ever got in the US is still more than the most expensive taxi ride I've been on in any other country.
Basic rule of thumb for any taxi anywhere: if it doesn't have a meter, don't get in.

If ever in Ecuador, never get into a taxi without establishing the cost first. Otherwise, always call for a pickup from a taxi company. Taxi companies are the only legit taxis, they also NEVER drive around looking for fairs.
Never by person!! Use Grab for transportation if available!

You don't want to be taking illegal taxi in Vietnam. Go for Vinasun or other legal taxi. Legal taxi are the more common taxi you can spot.

Always be vigilant with taxi drivers anywhere. I have seen taxi drivers ripping off newcomers and even to locals. Just show them straight face. Don't always be too nice to locals, just because you are tourists.

It's so wholesome and full circle watching this when it first came out at age 15 dreaming of going to other countries and now 7 years later rewatching the vlogs in south-east asia after i've travelled to all the same places. I love it

+Jessie Wu I think it's a mixture of table salts, sugar, and seasoning powder, not just MSG because MSG is not that cheap to fill in a bottle like that for free.

That mystery salt is called " bột canh " in Hanoi. You can put some of it in to your bowl of Pho if to your taste. Bột canh has salt, MSG,sugar,..

I just got back from Vietnam (Saigon, Phu Quoc Island and Nha Trang) a few weeks ago (my first visit there). Amazing country and the food is outstanding. Been watching the videos non-stop. Lol, I love every single of it!!! Btw, Kara, be careful with your items esp your engagement ring. Aren't you guys afraid your precious items will get snatch? Can you give us tips on how you secure those items including your wallet? Do you have two wallets, one for credit cards and important items that is being kept in the inner part of your bag and a second wallet that you use daily? And not to be worried if someone will steal it from behind or, that you can give it in case someone will hold you up in the middle of nowhere or taxi drivers with a gun?

You can actually get great massages on the bottom floor of the Bangkok Airport. Great way to spend a layover as well.

That was a challenging day, but it made a fascinating video.
Lot my ATM card in Vancouver years ago....had to wait in my hostel for 3 days for money to be wired across the Atlantic. Another time, I lost it in Tokyo, had to fly to Melbourne the next day, where I opened up a bank A/C, and luckily a good friend wired money into that A/C......one of the worst feelings in the world....your stomach tied in knots. Since then, learned to spread around money between cards, Currency.
Hope to see more blogs of Hanoi. I loved it when I visited last December. BTW, I also had bank card problems at Hanoi Airport - the ATM ate my bank card! It took 4 days for the bank to Fedex me a new card!

Your taxi ride would have been a lot more here in America. I would count your blessings lol. Two bowls of pho for only 4 bucks wow. Here it cost about 21 or something like that. But pho is so delicious.

When you think how cheap everything is over there, makes you wonder how in the world anyone from Vietnam or any asian country ever comes to the US. That $5 taxi ride would have been $40 or $50 here. And those $1 coffees would be $3 or more here.

I recommend you to go to Sai Gon, the people there are really friendly and honest , the taste of the pho are different too

Haha for some reason the ATMs in Thailand give you your cash before you can remove your card so it's really easy to forget it in the machine...
