"Brothers Can't Believe How The Skills Have Gotten" - Diamond D
Salute to Showbiz & A.G. !!
Spicy as a steak with potatoes au gratin
DIamond STILL droppin' bangers.
Would’ve liked to hear about the Diamond D vocal scratches on the chorus. Primo’s version is different from the original, for which Roc Raida (RIP) is credited with the cuts. Did Primo do the cuts on his version? I always assumed so. And if I’m being honest I always like his better. Either way it’s an unusual occurrence, like if Jimi Hendrix replayed a solo by Eric Clapton or something.
Preme signature on this beat is the grunt, ungh ungh ungh
Wasn't that Party Arty?
One of Premo's best beats ever!!!
BIG statement …. But I agree!
Yep!!!
on mom
Agree 100%
One 1. Of MANY . Brother 💪 strong
The original beat produced by Showbiz was fire too. Both versions are equally dope.
Not equally dope lol showbiz is far superior to premiers....
Show biz and preemo both 🔥 producers
Showbiz was next level good, the remix is one of the poorest that I have heard.
@@REPOMAN24722 I dont agree with that bro...
Both beats are absolute 🔥 but the original by Showbiz is one of my favorite beats of all time.
That Dilla tee is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Definitely👊🏿
One of those rare occurrences where the LP and Remix versions are equally on point.
Lmao no it aint
Nah original is far better.
@Ari114 totally agree. Rare
What Showbiz and AG did on that beat should be joyously celebrated by all Hip-Hop heads
Greatest Hip Hop producer of all time.
Agree 💯
Yeah it's dope Premier's wearing his tee
DJ Premier is like that really cool uncle you like hanging out with
That whole Goodfellas album is pretty damn underrated I might add . Showbiz took it to a whole other level with the beats with this one with the dark jazzy samples and ill ambient noise. Straight classic which I still listen to regularly to this day. Premiers remix fits perfectly with the vibe too.
The album was Goodfellas
@@diggindan1498 my bad. Of course Goodfellas. I edited my original post. Thanks
That medicine sample was some DIFFERENT shit, love it upon first listen onward, neighborhood sickness is a great one too
@@nobiggiejaytiggy584 The Medicine,Word I love that song. The intro to the song is amazing too,it sets the tone nicely.,.All the songs though,I don't think their is a weak song on there.Neighborhood sickness too, another dark and grimey track. The album is filled with this. The laid back ones like "got ya back"still have the dark vibe too. So dope.
@@acebutter9241 Off first listen to Goodfellas, I knew I stumbled across a gold mine. Had it on repeat for weeks and I revisit it often to this day 💯 so thankful for Show and AG man. Top to bottom that album is straight HIP HOP. Another good album is The Awakening by Lord Finesse. If you haven’t heard it yet, put that on your to do list and thank me later 🙏
So blessed to be old enough to grow up in 70 80 90 to real music
I aint gonna lie I appreciate the fact the premiere is breaking down studio times. The track makers are the true story tellers not the artist in all genres.
When A.G is on point, he outshines almost every other Mc in the history of microphones!! Dope beat to.. !!
He's gotten better with age too
Yeah man, he's nice. Search on CZcams for a tony touch radio show freestyle with AG, Black Thought and Sean Price. It's pretty good. There are a couple other emcees on it also. But AG's bars are top notch.
AG and OC album heavily slept on
@@christopherclay6267 RIP Sean Price
@@claushouse1 has he made any songs in recent years that were as good as this? If so, I’d like to hear them.
Next Episode : "So Wassup? Dj Premier about Dj Premier - how he managed to make about 1000 dope-ass Tracks and people still think Dre is the best Producer"
lol
AG is super underrated. You look at someone like him in his prime and compare him to underground hip hop today. WHAT A FALL OFF
Yea, if you bring up Showbiz and AG, only the real Hip-Hop heads know how important they were to the culture. They never blew up beyond that underground status(Nothing wrong with that), so they're music has to be found. You ain't gonna hear it being played... Not much anyways.
@@mk-ultramags1107 I heard Next Level (rmx) at a ton of hip hop events. But like you said, heads stuff. nowhere 'mainstream'
Ur right👌👌
TrU manager should have been replaced similar to Ill and Al scratch
Back then you had so many dope rappers that a lot just didn’t get to shine. A “good” rapper from that era is better than any artist today.
DITC is the most consequential east coast crew when it comes to hip-hop.
Shoutouts to Buckwild who really got me into beatmaking and the love for loops.
Legendary fellas, legendary beats, legendary album.
Every video on Showbiz & AG that I comment on I always make mention of them being underappreciated. Showbiz is one of the creators of the 90's boom bap sound and should be held high on the greatest producers of all time list. To me he's the 2nd best producer in DITC after Buckwild. I wish Show would have done more collabs with big artists. Imagine if Show would've had a joint on Illmatic? AG is criminally underrated and a big underachiever. AG was dope back then but has gotten better over the years but he never reached the heights as his peers. It sucks that they don't get the recognition they deserve as a dope emcee/producer
Totally agree, showbiz’s production especially on goodfellas has the illest beats I’ve ever heard
word !
Man Showbiz productions are da ill shit y'all
Too many producers are underrated, like mo bee or nick wiz. It's funny you mentionned Illmatic, I think the same thing, it lacks one track with a DITC producer on it...
It’s a cliche comment
I would love to hear the story of "In memory of" but i can understand if its to hard to talk about that, always brings tears to my eyes
That beat is so ethereal and floaty
You can tell Preemo was excited fr this one . He wrote all over that floppy. This is definitely one of my favorites but then again so is anything Preem touches. That’s crazy Showbiz taught u chops. Respect!
“Show kept on digging digging and now he got more crates”👑
Mann when this track came out the streets of of Chicago was literally lit 🔥 & this track was being played at all the underground hip Hop parties & hip hop night clubs & cars & suvs wit the subwoofers 🔊 Unbelievable track & vibes salute to ALL the D J “s who know there hip hop & played this flame 🔥 track 🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
I can’t call it. I always loved both versions. I also wish Showbiz never stopped rapping. He was great on the mic!
I personally told him that on Instagram. He replied that it was just for 'fun'. The 2nd album really defined the direction he wanted the group to go.
Preemo is the living embodiment of hip hop.
The guys from this era are superhuman. It is plain to see why music is in the state it is now. It is incredible how such a short era in time produced a seemingly endless amount of amazing hip hop.
R.I.P Guru, Preemo I love you man, thank you for educating us and giving this master class on hip-hop.
94 was a great year. This is still one of my favorite joints. I've played this on repeat MANY nights just zonin.
“People can’t believe how the skills have gotten” CERTIFIED BANGER!!!!
The Remix BLOWS The Original Out The Water. Completely. WHEW!!!!
Thank you, Showbiz for showing Preemo how to chop it up! Respect!!!
Yesssss! because premo made mind blown beats!
Showbiz and AG are BX finest!! Very underrated in the culture of Hip-hop. This is one of my favorite premo cuts!! 🔥🔥
Seminal , timeless, undisputed classic. You really are one of the greatest producers of all time. IN ANY GENRE!
D.I.T.C. forever. Showbiz blessed me with my 1st placement. Always got love for him and the whole crew
Been waiting patiently for this one. Preem, you’re a living legend.
A.G's bars on this is one of the greatest on a hip hop track
Man I love the twists in Premo's stories. Because they always take things to the next level. The 8 Mile story just adds more strength to the record. Which is super duper dope.
This beat solidified Preem as The GOAT
This is crazy….man no one can’t tell me this man created a whole genre…..crazy.
Now here I go again/Ready to flow again, and if the coast stays clear/Hell yir, I'm still going in/Get it together, or you B laying on a stretcher/I bet'cha, Imma get ya, the number one heart-stresser...!!! n_n
And to the enemy
You better roll like it's ten of me!
Bars💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Premier is right. Whenever his drops in the clubs, it always has that essence that just captures you. The recital of the lyrics come back, the call and response. You just feel the vibe and the mastery of how this was laid. It's very similar to Black Star's Respiration whenever that banger drops.
3:44 - the original. This song was so artfully done
Preem the only OG that speaks to us about the technical aspects of his production experiences. For those of that make beats that shit is so much appreciated
This beat is special. Which only makes sense for him to go in depth with it. This is one of my favorites.
I recorded the video off Video Music Box one day after school and Ralph McDaniels, the creator and host of that local NYC video show, didn't over-play it. So once I had it on VHS that was my treasure. I was familiar with the song before that but this remix blew my mind! They shot parts of the video at The municipal building across from City Hall. It's where the Manhattan bridge bike path lets out. Me and my friends used to ride our bikes from Fort Greene in Brooklyn to that area almost everyday all summer cuz there was nothing else to do when you were 14 or 15. So I recognized the building immediately. See what just hearing that sound brings back?! It activates some good, strong memories. The power of music. Anyway, Primo's remix it's so timeless and distinguished that when I play it in the car, even my kids stay quiet THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE SONG! Hip Hop, even the good stuff, doesn't sound like this anymore! There's a lot of pausing and grunting between 2 rapid fire bars. Then they say 4 words and growl or grunt again. Repeat 4x then another rapid fire flow for 4 bars, rinse and repeat. And with those tippitt-tippity high hat & overly bassy beats, everything sounds like it belongs in a down south strip club. But this type of expertly crafted, continuously rhythmical rhythm and rhyme flow are rare nowadays, except in the underground scene. This beat and AG's lyrics and flow epitomize the best of what hip hop can be. If this were released now it'd be as big a game changer as Luther's stripped down R&B classic, Never Too Much, which basically closed the door on the whole funk era of the late seventies and opened the 80s up to a new era of R&B dominance in the 80s. Beats and rhymes like this, but updated in some way by a young MC who understands his generation, would bring NYC and the whole Northeast (Jersey, Boston, Philly, Connecticut) back to prominence in the game!
"Cuz I'm a cool cat just like Heathcliff! Peep this, give up the loot!" Andre the Giant is so ill!! 🔥
I just, just, JUST, got on Showbiz and A.G. I never knew how dope AG was so dope. Don't beat me up too much.
10:41 - the preamble to this part explains something that baffled me for years. The off-kilt timing was a result of how to start the song properly because of the 2-inch tape. I always wondered how did such a beginning get conceived. The technology determined the output.💪💪💪
Growing up listening to this music, I never thought that years later I would be sitting on my porch 👀 Preem talk about these tracks and how they were created, this shit is absolutely epic.
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE BEATS. For madd years just be hummin it to myself while just meandering n whatnot lol
Lotto SMOKED B. Rabbit, got him outta there! 😂 They robbed that man. 💯
I grew up on Show & AG…still have my Runaway Slave cassette & Goodfellas vinyl. Underrated classic group 🕸👊🕸
This is the era I started making beats on my MPC60II, I love seeing these disks, samplers 2-inch tape, and these classic stories. This is one of the dopest HipHop beat intros of all times, I had beat juggle routines with this one! Salute and respect!
I've been listening to this joint since it dropped and I STILL can't get the timing of the intro! Lol
🎧🔥
@@tonychopper9142 maaan you got to be ready for that extra kick-hihat 🎧
Jewel Shop!!! 🔥🔥🔥
hittin like even before i finish it...i hear that intro drum fill already in my head
10:40 THERE IT IS
and yes, as a DJ, it was a challenge, and just fantastic to work with, really
My old head used to play this in his Isuzu trooper all the time! Andre is STILL one of the best MCs. The original version is dope as well- shouts to showbiz.
Another Premo banger. And shout out to the original, which uses the same Wes Montgomery sample as UGK "Ridin' Dirty." Who do ya'll think used it better? I have it dead even
Show and AG for me. 2 GREAT tracks that used the Wes sample. To be totally honest, I was broken hearted when I heard this remix with a new sample without "Angel" in it. One of the few Preemo joints I can't get behind due to my undying love for the original "Next Level" single.
@@1nil2afc Agreed. As big of a fan I am of Preemo’s sound, the original version of “Next Level” is the superior one for me. I still like the remix though.
@@apexone5502 I agree with you both!! The original beat wins for me even though I like them both!!
I used to rock the remix on the regular UNTIL i bought the Goodfellas cassette and heard the original….became my favorite version💯
Just wanna comment on the phrase in his prime. Andre the Giant never got out of his prime. He will bust your favorite rappers ass today right now if put in the same arena. If your pen is nice you never get out of your prime. Taste changes but skills live forever
This episode is a precious lecture 🔥
Goodfellas from Show & AG is such an underrated album. Always was a huge fan of that record.
R.I.P Party Arty
Love this joint. The clean version is super dope with the sound effects.
Criminally underrated duo. Showbiz is definitely one of my favorite producers that doesn’t get a lot of credit.. AG was nasty with the punchlines as well. DITC 4EVA. Peace to Preem. Glad they chose you for the remix… original was dope. Goodfellas LP was ILLL bro. That remix is just something special. Peace! 🔥
One of the most iconic beat in Rap history
Showbiz & AG…..legendary status like Gang Starr #salute
Love this beat so much. I ain't gonna lie some of the technical talk in this episode went over my head. We're truly spoilt in the DAW era lol.
"Battle" is the HARDEST song on the 8mile soundtrack 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The original version was a classic in itself. Hard to top that.
Show & AG are the GOATS
AG went crazy on this beat, such a head nodder, u cant NOT nod ya head wen u hear this beat
LOVE THE "DILLA DAY" SWEATSHIRT!!!!!!
A True Timeless Classic!!!
“All I see is blinking lights….” Remix is sick!
Forgot to mention the classic Lox freestyle off DJ Clue mixtape to that instrumental they also performed it at the versus when they destroyed The DipSet
One of the greatest hip hop tracks of all time. I think it's the best
“Showing all these corny mufukers what hip hop’s supposed to sound like”
One of the hottest beats ever made!! 🔥
See AG and the brother Show quiet is kept its best that you step on the low.
This is in my humble opinion the best ever Preemo beat
I firmly believe the OG version produced by Showbiz on the SP and Preemo’s remix made on the S950, are equally so ill in their own unique way.
One of the dopest beats ever in hip hop history
When this song dropped on your Mixtape🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✅. Great Times…. The Essence ✨💫✨
Pure hip hop
Love how the intro is so raw there’s not even high hats. 🥩
So every tuesday I wake up really hyped and excited for what's coming at the end of my working day. Based on Primo's discography I hope this goes on for weeks, months and hopefully years!
Yo Preem tell us about “Crush” by Big Shug …dat beat still sounds so futuristic
Yess
🫡 SALUTE ‘PREMO! We kicked it at ya’ lab HeadQCourterz, I was with A.G & PARTY ARTY that day & I’ll never forget the love you showed & u blessed me with a dope T-shirt n all! I’M HONORED, WORD!🤝🏾🦾💯💯💯 #HIPHOP4LIFE!
Peace & blessings!
💥CRACK💥STILL💥👀
🗣 Da LOx killed this IYKYK 🔥🔥🔥🔥
LOX CHEST 2 CHEST… 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The legendary Preemo does it again with the dope history and breakdown. Showbiz & A.G., some of the best that ever did it.
Best follow up to the Runaway Slave album.
One of the illest beats....EVER!!!!!!!
NO ONE does it like Premier! NOOOOOOOO ONE!
One of my favorite joints of all time.
I love both versions equally!
Dopest duo out of D.I.T.C. Legends.
Can't wait for "All 4 The Cash"!!!!!!!!!!
STILL GOT THIS ON WAX, one of my favorite show and ag jpoints, both mixes, memories....
much respect to showbiz, AG, premiere. I got doubles of this record in 2006. I was spinning at my dj gig and some one handed me their full crate, which included these records. The owner said the crate was ready to give away and decided to give itt to me while seeing my vinyl set. I had no serato yet.
Salute the Floppy Disk. I look forward to So Wassup. Next Level one of my favorite Preemo Beats. When I listen to it I have to put it on repeat a few times. Show & AG are Legends. AG is underrated dope original flow and very witty. Salute to DITC 🔥🔥🔥
hell yeah i played the hell outta this song, Pure Magic!! 🔥🔥
My GOD I love this track. The original AND the remix!
Big fan of you and the whole JL
when you guys were coming up in the Triangle….Salute to you💯
Definition of Masterpiece.
when dis came out was totally ahead of time. still one the best beats ever.
Show kept diggin and diggin and now he got more creates 🔥
Dre got nothing on you Preemo. Peace from Chicago!
Repping the J Dilla shirt nuff respect
Love the J Dilla sweater that Premo is rockin'
rest in peace and soul power James Yancey
Tha Dillagence!
Pretty wild how Premo shout out 9th Wonder partway through the video while rockin' those Dilla threads, because I've always kinda regarded 9th as a contemporary protege of the combined styles of J Dilla's soul and Premo's chopping technique. I could well be wrong about that though because turns out 9th isn't as young as I used to think he is, he very much hails from the same generation as Dilla and Premo. It's all love tho fam.
