- Good Morning, Reptilians! This week, I felt like it was time do an updated Leopard Gecko Care Guide. I did one a few years ago, but I’ve been getting a lot of questions about that one recently, and there were things in there that just no longer held true. Reptile care is always changing, so I thought the care guide needed a bit of an update as well.
Of course I forgot to include cleaning 🤦🏽♀️
- Spot clean once a day
- Deep clean food/water dishes AT LEAST once a week (I recommend cleaning the water bowl at least every other day, though)

I heart gecko also has horizontal conversion kits too. After seeing yours I got a 20 gallon long terrestrial conversion kit for one of my leopard geckos. And just got a 10 gallon horizontal for my Pac-Man frog.

Thank you so much for this video. I just upgraded my two leopard geckos into 50 gallon enclosures and I was really worried about using loose substrate for the first time. This video made me feel so much better.
I personally would recommend (if you aren't already) housing your geckos in separate inclosers, especially if they are the same gender!

@@Paula-nv8pr For me it costed around 200 ! but it also depends from what store and what country :) to make it cheaper I suggest going to a small buisness or shop ! I got mine from a shop if its more usefull I hope it helps !
Just wanted to tell you that my bearded dragon is a female and her name is Marley! She is still very nervous but she finally ate a real meal today, so hopefully she is getting more comfortable.

I just rescued a surrendered Leopard Gecko and he was on carpet his whole life. Some of his poor toes are gone but I'm glad I was able to take him and care for him way bette4

Leopard Geckos are so beautiful. I like the natural looking ones better than a lot of the morphs. The African Fat Tailed ones are really pretty too.

I just got my leopard gecko with a tank, it was resqued from a bad care, it had rachitis. I have it for a third day and it's my first reptile ever, but it already shedded yesterday, I was so excited and freaked out, didn't expected it to be so soon. I keep adding and changing some stuff, because I'm not happy with given tank setup at all, now I understand that gecko just doesn't have an opportunity to accomodate :(

I had a corn snake once and on the tank there was one flaw, at the top there was a hole so we covered it but one day it managed to escape and we looked around the entire house but never found him😔

Hey your Vid was Really informative! Right now I have 2 and this is night 2. We got them from a friend of a friend that was going to release them if none took them. Anyways one of them looks very good but is missing nails and a few fingers but over all looks goods. The other one is Blind in both eye is missing more toes then she has left and is very skinny and wont eat. We have being using eye drops from the store to help clear the shed from her eyes and soaking her left over toes to clear the last of the shed. We where told that she could still live to have a very long life so we are willing to put in the care to save her. Do you have any advice on how to get her to eat. We have tried holding live on twizers mill worms and crockets. She wont even face the food she moves her head away. She will drink water we drip on her nose and when i hum to her she calms down and just relaxes on my chest. Any advice beside a vet would help. We don't have a lot of money to spend but we are able to do the work.

7:27 The humidity in my tank was 40+ for 2 days and I went out and bought a dehumidifier lol. Scared me a lil bit.
40+ is completely fine for leopard geckos… they don’t need it to be bone dry. Humidity between 35-65% is ideal, as measured by a digital hygrometer.
Ok so I've been doing a lot of research for a long time but o still have two questions:
Does the heating matt need to be on? 24/7 or it at some point a turn it off.?
Also I know leopard gecko don't required any special lighting, but will like to put a light in my tank so i can see at dusk and dawn. Could I just put any led light ?

My leopard gecko’s tail did not grow back correctly at ALL and it looks like a radish😂 but whenever he gets excited the tip shakes like a normal tail so…? There’s that!😂
I have a leopard gecko with possible uv burns. I leave the light on when the the sun rises, and turn it off when it sets. My temperatures are perfect. I just recently added the UV light so I was wondering if the bulb I got was too strong or I am leaving it on too long. I used the Exo Terra® Repti Glo Tropical Terrarium Lamp - UVB 100 which is the 13w 5.0/5%. Please respond. I really need some advice.
I only uave a beardie and she is my first foray into the reptile world. U was curious with beardies of course coils sre a big nono and a 10.0 is required.
Now is it because the geckos are so smaller they do not need such am extreme uvb?

Dubia roaches are illegal in some Canadian provinces mainly Ontario cause Ontario like to ban weird stuff like pit bulls and Dubia roaches even tho it’s to cold here
I have had my leopard geckos for several years, when I got them I did not know they like being alone so I put them together, I got lucky (not knowing ) because I inherited them from a friend I got a male and female together they are like a couple personalities and all hahah , she even lays eggs , very interesting, i have not incubated the eggs but that would be interesting, ya they are really awesome !

this might be a dumb question since you mentioned burying their food, but do you HAVE to feed them in the tank? I’ve tried feeding my gecko in the tank and I just find it much, much harder to do. Therefore, I usually take him out. He still usually eats all the food I give him and never seems to get bored.

Hi Elle! I have just got a 5 month old leopard gecko and my only concern is with supplementing. I bought exo terra's calcium powder without d3 and dust cricket with that on weekdays. Then on weekdays i dust with exo terra's multivitamin powder. I am also leaving that calcium powder in the tank. No I do not have a uvb light. Am I doing this right??
You are doing a good job for a beginner but just a recommendation in my opinion give your leopard gecko calcium with d3 because you do not have a uvb so that you know they are getting what they need. Or really what I truly recommend is just go and get a Uvb light, they are not expensive at all and your gecko will benefit from the light in a lot of ways.. but always keep calcium without d3 in the tank
Hey, so you said 10 gallon for babies and here’s why I think it’s wrong.
I have a 5 month leopard gecko and I kept him in a 10 gallon for 2 months (Don’t worry, he’s in a 32 gallon now.) I think he has stunted growth due to being kept in that size of tank. It’s also difficult to get the warm and cool side to the right temps in a 10 gallon! I’d recommend keeping a baby in a 20 gallon or if you can provide lots of clutter and enrichment then you can always go bigger!
Edit: I just watched the humid hide part, please NEVER use moss! It causes impaction and when wet it expands so if your leopard gecko eats it, it’s going to impact them and that can lead to death.
What should I use for the humid hide part then? Wet Paper towel?

No. A soil/playsand or soil/sand/clay mix is best.
Can they eat the mealworms beetles.
I am getting a Leopard gecko and am setting up a 20 gallon habitat. What watt of bulbs should I use and should I get two lights one for day and one for night?
There shouldn’t be any lights on at night, so as not to disrupt their day/night cycle. Get at least a 50 watt, but when in doubt, go higher. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat is ideal. You can get them from hardware stores.
Is regular sand okay for a leopard gego or should I use topsoil substrate instead
A mix that’s 60% soil and 40% sand (not calcium sand) or soil/sand/clay is ideal.
