I also want hermione to be…hermione. I want her to have her flaws, not to be this perfect hermione-Ron-Ginny combination. In the book she knows the rules, and finds the loopholes to break them. She also trapped Rita skeeter in a jar, and permanently scarred Marietta’s face. Movie hermione would be in angst if she did that lol
Also I love the little imperfections about Hermione well. Like she really doesn't like flying brooms, is terrible at chess, and in the heat of the moment sometimes doesn't know which spell to cast because she knows so many. And often she over looks practical things like eating and rest. Her anxiety over potential failure often nearly causes. I love that. It makes her relatable and human.
Yesssss, and I also want Ron to be Ron. They did both of them dirty in the movies by trying to make Hermione perfect by giving her a lot of the Ron moments, and making Ron just kind of a goof. Hermione is awesome, but she is also flawed. Ron is super insecure, which sometimes leads him astray but is also such a good guy and a great friend
One thing you could also mention about Ludo Bagman is that he could possibly be considered a suspect regarding who put Harry's name in the Goblet. He offers Harry so much help, to the point where even Sirius wonders what his motive was in doing this. He pretty much has his own plot-line mystery revolving around him.
And with Ludo, the arc with the Weasley twins losing their life savings to a bet, and Harry giving his Triwizard Tournament prize money to them so they can start their joke shop would come up too!
Plus, it was under Ludo’s “leadership” that Bertha Jorkins disappeared. They really should explore that part of the story. I know she was only talked about, but she basically set up whole Goblet of Fire book. How was creepy Wormtail able to seduce her? There’s a ton of questions that need to be answered.

what about Florean Fortescue from the ice cream shop in Diagon Alley? Harry spent a couple weeks in the Alley at the beginning of Azkaban and Florean gave him free ice cream and helped him with wizard history.
I’m most excited to see Charlie Weasley, Regulus Black, Teddy Lupin, Peeves, Ludo Bagman, Winky, Professor Binns the Longbottoms Also, weirdly looking forward to seeing Piers Polkiss 😅 I really hope they put all of the missing characters in, but I think that’s probably a little too optimistic
Yes I want to see teddy lupin so badly!! An added scene where Harry looks at a picture of his godson, which gives him a reason to keep strong. Maybe even a flashback to Sirius.
And give back Ron's wit and snark! The banter between the two of them is like 70 percent of the books. Not to mention, my favorite part! And I would like it back, PLEASE!!!
Yeah they took some of the James out of Harry for the movie and made him take mostly after Lily... probably to make Snape's treatment of him worse by comparison since they had to calm him down a bit too
I hope that when this show comes out, it not only has the characters that were cut from the movies like Charlie Weasley, but also gives Ron his moments to show how much he knows about the Wizarding World instead of taking them away from him and giving them to Hermione instead. Because as much as I understand that Steve Kloves loves Hermione, he was way too biased when writing seven of the eight movies. I mean, it’s so annoying to see Ron get his character butchered so Hermione can look cool. Also, I hope that Ginny will be more like her book counterpart because she was done a pretty huge disservice in the movies.
not having regulus will be a crime. his story on the background and then at the forefront will be insanely impactful and impressive of written well: we have sirius casually drop the ‘yeah he got cold feet and died’ and ‘always a better son’ then horace casually name dropping him to then kreature’s tale. the one thing I’ve always thought is that regulus being the definition of the best slytherin there was will 100% outshine any attempt at draco’s ‘redemption’ just like in was in the books. when compared, these two are like miles away. tbh show writers will have to do a lot of heavy lifting with slytherins in general but giving us slytherin prince in all of his redeeming glory is a must.
Augusta Longbottom needs to be in this list! Otherwise, absolutely perfect, although to be honest, I want every second of the books to be in the show, so I think every character should be a must in one way or another. I realize that's not realistic, but still, a girl can dream!

I think in terms of how to adapt the scene of the Muggle Prime Minister in Half-Blood Prince, it can be the opening sequence for the first episode of the season before the title sequence, like with a lot of TV shows. And it's safe to say that Charlie HAS to be in the show. If he ain't, there would be riots in the streets. And I think Andromeda needs to be in the show, simply for the reason to demonstrate, like Sirius Black, that even in bad families, there can be good people.
One of my favorite scenes from Order of the Pheonix is when peeves is trying to unscrew a chandelier and McGonagall tells him it unscrews the other way. I would love for the show to add this scene.
I hope Harry actually reacts to Lavender’s death 😭 A little sadness for the death of one of his classmates of seven years (considering there’s only 40 people in the year, 20 in a pre-NEWT level class, and Gryffindors were often in the same class) would make more sense than simply moving on

Yeah I agree. I don’t like how there’s this whole debate on whether she died or not. It was never really clarified that greyback DID bite her. Even in the book it said something like “he leaned down TO sink his teeth into her neck.” Then trelawney comes and throws crystal balls or something. But many people consider it as a death. I hope this gets covered once and for all, and at least have the characters feel somewhat sad about it😭 (she was parvatis best friend, Ron’s ex girlfriend, and one of Harry’s peers).

Was I the only one, when reading that part the first time, who thought she was turned into a werewolf instead of her being dead? When I got to know that many thought she died, I was a little confused
@@hishmab.75 I think it’s likely she died from the fall, and in the films padma and professor trelawney look sadly at a body bag, suggesting it’s Lavender who died. But in the books she could totally be a werewolf, and it would be really cool if that was shown in the new version
For me, All memories of Voldemort are needed!! It adds so much to the villain of the entire series. We get to see so many sides of Voldemort other than him being a psychotic killer. His manipulative, vindictive, shrewd or cunning, obsessive side. It is extremely essential for the idea or revelation of what are the Horcruxes as well. These memories form a major part of the story in HBP and are needed to create an idea of Voldemort's personality.
I'd put Grubbly Plank a tier or two higher - I think she'll probably appear in an episode or two when she substitutes for Hagrid. She might not be super important to the plot, but she does appear several times

And I’ve completed the first four books in early 2024 and now I’m currently reading the order of the Phoenix and I’ve after I’ve read the 5th book I can read the last two books the half blood prince and the deathly hallows. I gotta say, I’d argue that almost if not all of these characters need to be in the show. A lot of the don’t need them have a tiny part but their presence or action makes them kind of crucial. Like for instance Tonks father has more of a plot point in the story than the mother but there’s more “lore” with her. Because we see him on the run in the 7th book and he even dies but nothing else is said about tonks mother. So we absolutely need them both for these parts to hit home. It’s hard for us to attach to these characters when we only know half their story and half of their stories are literally just cause their kids.
This is the biggest running joke concerning the books vs the films debate. I see this line in nearly every video that in any way/shape/form references that scene. I agree, though, that is NOT Dumbledore. I don't think it was bad acting on Gambon's part, probably more like bad directing, and not a specific enough script to set the scene properly. Mike Newell directed GOF and he said in an interview that he wanted to be the director who brought Harry Potter to the darker more mature themes and was "horrified" to find that Alfonso Cuaron had already done it with POA. So he went with a lighter tone over the film, which was stupid on his part. I wasn't keen on Gambon as Dumbledore. Something just didn't click for me there. What I really wish they had done was have Richard Harris' son, Jared, take up the role. He has a lot of his father's mannerisms and looks, especially the eyes. I was watching the Daniel Day Lewis film Lincoln in the theater with my BBF and she's also a huge HP fan (her then husband gave us the nickname Gryffindorks) and Jared Harris was in it. The first scene he was in I leaned over to her and told her to look at his eyes when the camera panned back to him. As she was doing so I said to her "Dumbledore. That is Richard Harris' son". She immediately said "Holy shit! DUDE! Spot on!". They left so much out of the film, both characters and scenes. That film to me felt like a rushed half assed attempt at doing a film. Kind of like the last season of GOT. Let's just grab a handful of ingredients off the shelf, put it in a blender, and call it a day.
I will always love the films more, but even I can't deny just how confusing some of the filming was, especially during the Battle of Hogwarts, where the scene framing was so confusing, I honestly mistook characters like Percy for bad guys.
Yesss. I get how they did the whole dark contrast to set the mood of “hey, this is a battle. People are dying.” But sometimes it’s like…what am I looking at?? Lol

What I hope most from the series is that there will be some episodes with flashbacks or backstories. A few examples are Voldemort, Dumbledore, maybe a whole episode about the Marauders and Snape, Regulus Black, a bit about the first wizarding war and probably a lot more that I can't think of at the moment. I think that would be perfect because it would set the series apart from the films and then you wouldn't need to make a film about the Marauders, for example. I don't think a film would be suitable for this because we know exactly what happens, but an episode would be perfect because there's enough time to show all the important scenes.
I feel I'd like them to spend more time exploring Diagon Alley. Not a lot more time, mind you. But it's such a fun location and contributed to the world feeling just that much darker. Especially quick scenes of the ice cream shop or Harry's first meeting with Draco. It's fun to see Draco treat Harry normally before everything starts to sour between them.
Second this. If Morgan can reread the goblet of fire for a video essay (whereas the director of the literal movie can’t read more than 30 pages 😭), then he can be trusted with small details of this series

I was waiting for you mostly to talk about Frank and Alice but YES to Marietta! She also causes one of my favorite Dumbledore scenes which is him getting real scary when Umbridge grabs her and shakes her. It is one of the rare moments that shows how Dumbledore cares for his students that aren't Harry. That whole scene in his office is awesome and the movie did an ok job with it with Kinsley's line added in but I love the scene in the book Also, I am splitting the Mauraders young selves from their adult selves as characters. We got plenty of Peter but no Wormtail. They really have to put more emphasis on all of them than they did in the movie but with excluding Wormtail from the friend group except for like 2 scenes in PoA his betryal doesn't hit the same
I think having the regulus black flash back would be a great first episode and it would really set the dark tone for the half blood prince season. I think having a full episode dedicated to it would work better as the fans would develop more love and connection to regulus so it would mean more when he is pulled under.
I feel Nigellus Black is absolutely needed. It helps explain all the questions on Snape's knowledge of the trio in the last book. If you keep him out it makes it vague just like in the movie.

What I want to see that wasn’t in the movies is the scene in Prisoner of Azkaban when Snape loses his mind when Sirius escapes the tower-I waited the whole movie to see Alan Rickman do that scene and it never happened!! Also, for the love of all things Potter, they need to make sure whoever plays a grown OR younger Lily has eyes that are the same color as Harry’s. Harry having his mother’s eyes is an essential thread in the books and having the little girl in the movies have obviously brown eyes was so needlessly stupid. And I’d looove to see the swamp Fred and George create in the corridor at Hogwarts and Filch having to row students across it to get them to their classes😂

And it's safe to say that Charlie HAS to be in the show. If he ain't, there would be riots in the streets. And I think Andromeda needs to be in the show, simply for the reason to demonstrate, like Sirius Black, that even in bad families, there can be good people.

One of my favorite scenes from Order of the Pheonix is when peeves is trying to unscrew a chandelier and McGonagall tells him it unscrews the other way. I would love for the show to add this scene.

I hope Harry actually reacts to Lavender’s death 😭 A little sadness for the death of one of his classmates of seven years (considering there’s only 40 people in the year, 20 in a pre-NEWT level class, and Gryffindors were often in the same class) would make more sense than simply moving on

Yeah I agree. I don’t like how there’s this whole debate on whether she died or not. It was never really clarified that greyback DID bite her. Even in the book it said something like “he leaned down TO sink his teeth into her neck.” Then trelawney comes and throws crystal balls or something. But many people consider it as a death. I hope this gets covered once and for all, and at least have the characters feel somewhat sad about it😭 (she was parvatis best friend, Ron’s ex girlfriend, and one of Harry’s peers).

Was I the only one, when reading that part the first time, who thought she was turned into a werewolf instead of her being dead? When I got to know that many thought she died, I was a little confused
@@hishmab.75 I think it’s likely she died from the fall, and in the films padma and professor trelawney look sadly at a body bag, suggesting it’s Lavender who died. But in the books she could totally be a werewolf, and it would be really cool if that was shown in the new version

For me, All memories of Voldemort are needed!! It adds so much to the villain of the entire series. We get to see so many sides of Voldemort other than him being a psychotic killer. His manipulative, vindictive, shrewd or cunning, obsessive side. It is extremely essential for the idea or revelation of what are the Horcruxes as well. These memories form a major part of the story in HBP and are needed to create an idea of Voldemort's personality.
I'd put Grubbly Plank a tier or two higher - I think she'll probably appear in an episode or two when she substitutes for Hagrid. She might not be super important to the plot, but she does appear several times

And I’ve completed the first four books in early 2024 and now I’m currently reading the order of the Phoenix and I’ve after I’ve read the 5th book I can read the last two books the half blood prince and the deathly hallows.

I gotta say, I’d argue that almost if not all of these characters need to be in the show. A lot of the don’t need them have a tiny part but their presence or action makes them kind of crucial. Like for instance Tonks father has more of a plot point in the story than the mother but there’s more “lore” with her. Because we see him on the run in the 7th book and he even dies but nothing else is said about tonks mother. So we absolutely need them both for these parts to hit home. It’s hard for us to attach to these characters when we only know half their story and half of their stories are literally just cause their kids.

This is the biggest running joke concerning the books vs the films debate. I see this line in nearly every video that in any way/shape/form references that scene. I agree, though, that is NOT Dumbledore. I don't think it was bad acting on Gambon's part, probably more like bad directing, and not a specific enough script to set the scene properly. Mike Newell directed GOF and he said in an interview that he wanted to be the director who brought Harry Potter to the darker more mature themes and was "horrified" to find that Alfonso Cuaron had already done it with POA. So he went with a lighter tone over the film, which was stupid on his part.
I wasn't keen on Gambon as Dumbledore. Something just didn't click for me there. What I really wish they had done was have Richard Harris' son, Jared, take up the role. He has a lot of his father's mannerisms and looks, especially the eyes. I was watching the Daniel Day Lewis film Lincoln in the theater with my BBF and she's also a huge HP fan (her then husband gave us the nickname Gryffindorks) and Jared Harris was in it. The first scene he was in I leaned over to her and told her to look at his eyes when the camera panned back to him. As she was doing so I said to her "Dumbledore. That is Richard Harris' son". She immediately said "Holy shit! DUDE! Spot on!".
They left so much out of the film, both characters and scenes. That film to me felt like a rushed half assed attempt at doing a film. Kind of like the last season of GOT. Let's just grab a handful of ingredients off the shelf, put it in a blender, and call it a day.

I will always love the films more, but even I can't deny just how confusing some of the filming was, especially during the Battle of Hogwarts, where the scene framing was so confusing, I honestly mistook characters like Percy for bad guys.
Yesss. I get how they did the whole dark contrast to set the mood of “hey, this is a battle. People are dying.” But sometimes it’s like…what am I looking at?? Lol

What I hope most from the series is that there will be some episodes with flashbacks or backstories.
A few examples are Voldemort, Dumbledore, maybe a whole episode about the Marauders and Snape, Regulus Black, a bit about the first wizarding war and probably a lot more that I can't think of at the moment. I think that would be perfect because it would set the series apart from the films and then you wouldn't need to make a film about the Marauders, for example. I don't think a film would be suitable for this because we know exactly what happens, but an episode would be perfect because there's enough time to show all the important scenes.

I feel I'd like them to spend more time exploring Diagon Alley. Not a lot more time, mind you.
But it's such a fun location and contributed to the world feeling just that much darker.
Especially quick scenes of the ice cream shop or Harry's first meeting with Draco. It's fun to see Draco treat Harry normally before everything starts to sour between them.

I was waiting for you mostly to talk about Frank and Alice but YES to Marietta! She also causes one of my favorite Dumbledore scenes which is him getting real scary when Umbridge grabs her and shakes her. It is one of the rare moments that shows how Dumbledore cares for his students that aren't Harry. That whole scene in his office is awesome and the movie did an ok job with it with Kinsley's line added in but I love the scene in the book
Also, I am splitting the Mauraders young selves from their adult selves as characters. We got plenty of Peter but no Wormtail. They really have to put more emphasis on all of them than they did in the movie but with excluding Wormtail from the friend group except for like 2 scenes in PoA his betryal doesn't hit the same

I think having the regulus black flash back would be a great first episode and it would really set the dark tone for the half blood prince season. I think having a full episode dedicated to it would work better as the fans would develop more love and connection to regulus so it would mean more when he is pulled under.

I feel Nigellus Black is absolutely needed. It helps explain all the questions on Snape's knowledge of the trio in the last book. If you keep him out it makes it vague just like in the movie.

What I want to see that wasn’t in the movies is the scene in Prisoner of Azkaban when Snape loses his mind when Sirius escapes the tower-I waited the whole movie to see Alan Rickman do that scene and it never happened!!
Also, for the love of all things Potter, they need to make sure whoever plays a grown OR younger Lily has eyes that are the same color as Harry’s. Harry having his mother’s eyes is an essential thread in the books and having the little girl in the movies have obviously brown eyes was so needlessly stupid.
And I’d looove to see the swamp Fred and George create in the corridor at Hogwarts and Filch having to row students across it to get them to their classes😂
