I DONT KNOW WHO TO BLAME OTHER THAN MYSELF AND EVERYONE WHO USES SPOTIFY AND STREAMING MUSIC. SSAD TO SEE BUT WHEN THERE IS NO MONEY IN MUSICC WHY WOULD ANYONE BER MOTIVATED TO MAKE AANYTHING OTHER THAN RADIO THROW AWAY SONGS. ANSWER ME THAT MINTROM. PERHAPS YOU SHOULD MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW MUSIC HAS GGOOTTEN WORSE EVER SINCE SPOTIFYA ND MUSICAL STREAMING HAS COME OUIT. I DONT KNOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE BUT PEOPLE NEED TO BE AT LEAST TOLD TO GO SUPPORT ARTISTS DIRECTLY. I SEE A FUTURE WHER THERE ISNT ANY MUSIC WORTH LISTENING TO ANYMORE.

honestly, call me a contrarian or a pedantic heavy metal elitist, but as a metalhead CLB is the antithesis of what i love about music. its missing the highly technical and impressive instrumentals, deep and varied lyrical content, and the uniqueness of each individual track that made me fall in love with music, and instead is overly commercialized, autotuned to hell and back, and homogenous very similarly to St. Anger. the worst part is that is came in the same week as Donda and Senjutsu, two albums that feature already-famous artists exploring new territory with their music.

Maybe it’s us. Maybe we are putting these expectations on Drake to be this thought-provoking, legendary artist, and he’s just not, or at least not anymore. I see so many trying to peg him in with the likes of Kendrick or J.Cole, and I think thats the problem. They don’t cater to the mainstream as heavily as he does. They don’t churn out pop rap songs every two months to stay relevant. It’s pure quality over quantity. So I think his last few albums (at least after NWTS for me), have been very hollow and just mostly forgettable because he’s catering to this pop, mainstream image. Everything from him now is very shallow, repetitive, cookie-cutter, rehearsed music/image. Not letting his art reflect anything personal or profound, just whatever gets his name on the charts. Not to mention, resorting to bs (fake) “rap beefs” to stay relevant as well 🙄. It’s feels like a facade, like this fake wanna be hard/ghetto front, when thats really not him. I think thats why his music doesn’t connect anymore. Doesn’t make him bad, but IMO just not on the same level or quality as the other artists people are trying to compare him too. Like trying to compare Cardi B or Meg to Lauryn Hill. đŸ€šđŸ€š Like, no lol, let’s keep them separate. I don’t hate Meg or Cardi, but me criticizing them for not being “deep” is well silly bc they are not that type of artist. Just because it’s popular does not equal quality.

Sure, Ye put a diss track on his album, and he had a couple shots here and there, but nobody comes away from Donda thinking about Drake. I came away from CLB thinking about Kanye both because of how much more I got out of his album, and because of how much of Drake's album was dedicated to talking about him.
Terrible decision, hard to tell if it was done out of faltering management advice or just a desperate attempt to capitalize on a moment. Also the dude is still writing bars about the last beef HE LOST with another guy in Ye's camp, bars about how he's over it and it doesn't even phase him, yet again he keeps writing about it. This is so intricately well made. I feel like you not only covered a lot of my own thoguhts as someone who grew up listening to drake but introduced me to things I didn’t even notice. Normally I’m heavily analytical but I am not joking when I say if I like an album I’ll finish it ASAP but the moment CLB came out and I saw the photo for it, I guessed what it was about. I put off listening to it for like 4 days, while seeing the usual Instagram stories of drake music on it and them thinking they’re way 2 sexy, seeing people riding the social media trend. It’s disgusting. All of my schoolmates who like this album bluntly don’t care about the meaning of it. They just say it sounds nice. These are the same people who love someone like Playboi CARTI. I listened to it when going to Niagara Falls on a 8 hour drive, since I had the album downloaded and was bored out my mind. Despite having insomnia and not being able to sleep much during the day ESPECIALLY IN CARS this album helped me to do so. That’s how humiliating it is. I tried finishing it when I woke up. I tried on the drive back home. To all the same, it was so incredibly terrible. If CLB gets nominated AOTY I am genuinely disappointed beyond my mind.

I do like Ratchet Happy Birthday, tho. Although it was clearly written by PND.

He knows he is catering to the mainstream, and based on the numbers it has worked. At the end of the day, he is trying to make money. I am sure he knew "way 2 sexy" would have gotten on top because it just shows what the market is like these days. If the audience shows that they dislike this style, he will change, but until then he will continue to do this because it is profitable. I enjoyed the album because I wasn't trying to analyse it so hard, just had some nice beats and catchy lyrics and that is probably what he was aiming for anyways.

Personally i think his downfall started in 2016 when he dropped views.
I mean obvious views is masterpiece and much better than his latest albums but it was the first time that i felt that he was not doing something, then with scorpion it just got worse.
Then in 2020 whe he dropped toosie slide, i realized that this was not the drake from early 10's, it is like when someone does not grow up and just does not try to give quality and good music.
But he does not care that because he knows that he's going to get success anyways because he is, well you know DRAKE and people are going stream his music even if put out garbage
