Redbull Paperwings 2019 distance winner (Merrill Dart)

- Do not throw this model at anyone due to the risk of injury! This video shows how to fold the aircraft that won the Redbull Paperwings 2019 competition. I modified an old design and folded it for Jake Hardy who then threw it 56 meters (183 feet) setting a new Redbull Record. Only these types of planes can be used given how liming the rules and the environment is for the competition.

Today marks the day where I made one of these for the first time. Who designed it?
Its a traditional model but i improved it.
this is totally cool plane. any baseball player can throw it without any practice due to its innovate finger holding scheme.

@@jayson5674 I did not liked V shaped javelin due to its spinning and drag. But I changed my mind after I had tried this one.
sometimes this one will spin, it flies farthest when it stays stable though.

yes andy. ive modified it to have a locking device as well. I will make a video on how to do that if you like. even with those enhancements it still cannot reliably fly especially in hangar 7. its basically a greenhouse in there.

I couldn’t fold the Red Bull paper wings airplane. It was too fast and it’s pretty complicated.

The redbull dart is a traditional design. You really cant find it anywhere

I've been trying to figure out a reason as to why Red Bull is using that god awful narrow landing strip........I guess most of the competitors at Paper Wings are university students who want to try out folding a paper airplane for fun, and only a minority of them are seasoned origami airplane enthusiasts like yourself. I've thrown gliders 60 meters and its an absolute fucking nightmare even getting the damn thing to work. I would love for them to do away with the narrow landing strip for distance and only allow true gliders but given how difficult it is (especially without tape), I’m not sure if the average university student would want to go through all that and ruin the fun..........which is why I don’t see them changing that rule anytime soon.
Well i thought about that and it comes down to that the event is just for marketing. They dont really want to have a proper airplane contest. Its really just for fun. We were talking about this at the event often. On one hand if redbull didnt hold the event noone would have a paper contest. The other is that the have the event but its not a true competition. We just have to deal with it until someone can hold a true event which might never happen due to paper planes and origami not being mainstream. The art needs to be popularized with a movie or video game which is my overarching goal.
Jayson Merrill yeah Paper Wings is more of a social event than a hardcore paper airplane event like the one back in 1967 (and another one in the 80s). But they’re the only one in the game right now so....gotta give them credit anyway.
