    3:21 the first mistake was that you shipped each sample individually which cost you around as you say 150$.
    Prevention: whenever you are ordering a lot of samples from different suppliers always and i repeat always hire a consolidation company and send their address which they will provide you to the suppliers.
    Then the company will place all your samples in one box and then ship that to you which will save you alot of money.

    • @moviepoint1973

      @@BEASTNYCwhen we are sourcing a product from lets say Ali Baba all the manufacturers are from China and we ask almost 5 to 6 manufacturers for their sample of the product so we can test and decide which one is the perfect. So if we ask each of the manufacturers individually to send the sample to us it typically cost not so much but when 5 to 6 samples combined and sent individually it sums up to more money whereas if we consult a consolidation company it collect all these samples put then in one box and ships that box to us which costs less money cuz they have to pay the fees only one time instead of paying the fee for shipping for every single sample. I hope this clears your doubt. If you have any other queries about any Amazon related stuff feel free to ask.

I realize now that I research my inventory much more than the people telling me to stay away from FBA. All my products typically sell within 2 months of listing whereas the family members advising me against it have had certain products on their shelves for over 3 years. I immediately steered away from branding my own product because of the really high startup costs of my passion products. I'm about to take my business in another direction.

    Most shipping agents in China offer consolidation, basically when you hire a shipping agent to transport goods to they have a warehouse where goods can be sent to, ask the agent for this address (usually in Chinese) and pass it on to the suppliers who have the products you want to source. They will quote you the fees, insist on receiving a tracking number and the courier company name to pass to the shipping agent. The fees for local courier services in China are generally very cheap but it does depend on the size and weight of the package, as there are numerous services that can be used depending on your need, such as time sensitive, bulk goods and so on.
    The shipping agent will then consolidate the goods into one shipment or package and this will save a ton of costs, I've been sourcing products for MNCs and SMEs for over a decade and I'm based in China so my info is solid.

    This is great info. FBA Logistics professional here 🙋‍♀️ and just wanted to add a helpful tip regarding potential shipping delays. The import market from Asia is very bottle-necked right now and freight forwarders are experiencing up to 3 - 4 weeks for a booking confirmation with a steamship line. That could add another est 21 - 28 days to your 45 day window. Not to mention, the Chinese New Year - most everything is shut down for a couple weeks. When space is tight, cost go up, which may cause a slight freight increase. Supply and Demand.

Also is it not better to have 4 months inventory since it takes minimum of 2 months to have new inventory shipped. One month to observe how the market is reacting to your product. And 2 months to have it safely in Amazon.

    So my wife and I are getting into Amazon FBA and we have been calculating costs with Amazon‘s Calculator and it tells us approximately how much we will make after fees that are there for using Amazon. Now if you have a company that you created for this, you also have to take out the additional 30% for taxes for the end of the year , correct?

    • @shemmy95
      @shemmy95 Před 3 lety +3

    I think some of my mistakes include - 1) not differentiating myself enough. So I ended up competing with lots of similar products which were often cheaper than I could sell mine for. This example was with the detangling hair brush that was popular for a brief time. 2) Not actually knowing how much inventory to order and when, so you mentioned the 45 days lead time. I basically ran out of stock and then had to wait months to restock and in that time, all the money spent to get my ranking up on Amazon , had to be spent again. Strangely the 2nd time of advertising was less efficient and ultimately the advertising costs were just too much to get the products back to where they needed to be - to be seen and sold. 3) The pay per click has a flaw I think, I’m sure competitors click on the ads because they know this will use up your budget. I am not sure Amazon provides protection on this. I am yet to make a profit from selling on Amazon - I think I mainly lose money, around £2k from the last venture

      @@TravisMarziani I tried / started back in 2019 by listing a product under another listing of the same item. I didn’t know about brand registry then, so it wasn’t long before the seller complained and my account got locked. I swear it took almost 7 months of back and forth with Amazon to get it unlocked. I then went through the whole Brand Registry / Trademark application which also took a few months. So I didn’t officially get started until 2020. I only survived about 3 months. I wasn’t rich enough to sustain the losses 😭- I just didn’t understand the numbers around what Amazon were charging. Their invoices just seemed unpredictable. I recently decided to try again, but I think I am on the verge of making the same mistakes, especially around the product I’ve chosen and then the logistics of restocking if it goes well.

      @@TravisMarziani I remember people saying in 2018 the competition is getting fierce and probably only a few years left before its not even worth most peoples time, I suppose they were just talking about selling products from China lol.
      I did have a few products of my own through FBA which sold. They didn't sell very fast and they were seasonal. I guess I was pretty skeptical about the whole thing and never wanted to put down too much on any single product because the products I WAS selling were selling so slow that If I got hundreds of something I was afraid it would just sit there and never gain rank. I also didn't like the idea of paying 35 dollars each for samples and then possibly not getting anything worthwhile after like 10 samples and ditching that product then trying again and losing more and more money. There are plenty of ways to lose money in this and you have to be very careful. Maybe I am just to scared of losing that I defeated myself before I started. Bottom line though I never did find a product that I had enough faith would sell to invest thousands of dollars on.
