Welcome to the family! Yeeah 2 episodes in, and you're already seeing what made this show so fantastic and why its garnered this position of reverence in television history. Excellent writing, witty dialogue, themes of morality and the change of times, depth into character psychology and flawless performances from almost everyone.
Two episodes in and we already see Tony as a compelling and complex protagonist. Not just as a mobster, but as a human being. The series delves so much into who Tony Soprano is as a father, husband, son etc. Why he has these mental health issues and how he will deal with his problems. Take away the mob aspect, and you have a show about a middle aged man struggling with typical life problems and trying to find a perfect balance with his work and home life.
Look forward to more reactions! The seasons just get better and better.

It's great to see more people reacting to this show now. Welcome. At the end of the second episode, Georgie said "is that an operator or an answering machine?", which is similar to what Livia said earlier. So Tony was really taking out his frustration over his mother on Georgie when he hit him.

This is the best gangster series ever made!
There's a whole lot of twists and turns throughout the show.
For pure gangsterism, I'd rate Boardwalk Empire higher. After all, it's got Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Arnold Rothstein, and Al Capone as *supporting characters* . And Stephen Graham is amazing, as the *definitive* Capone, in my opinion. The Sopranos is great for the family dynamic and the troubles of a latter stage mob crew.
you will grow to love the random bits of Paulie Walnuts, i think he is my favourite and stays true throughout the series!
James Gandolfini was getting to be as highly regarded an actor as Marlon Brando when he died. You will simply not believe how great this show gets by the end. You'll look back at this first season and think it was just so-so in comparison. I envy you seeing it for the first time.I wish I could watch it all again for the first time.

A few things to remember about the mafia life -- #1. The guys usually all have "Goo-mars" which means girls on the sides and the wives usually know about it but look the other way. They grow up in a lifestyle where that's just how it is so if you see it in episodes and wonder why Carmella doesn't leave Tony it's because it isn't as big of a deal as it would be in a normal marriage. #2. A summary of who's who and their ranks (because the Mafia uses ranks like the military)... -THE BOSS: Jackie Aprile (guy with cancer). - THE UNDERBOSSES: Tony, his Uncle and one other guy you haven't seen. - TONY'S CONSIGLIRIE: (Right hand man and consular): Silvio Dante(the guy who has the crazy frown on his face who blew up Artie's restaurant. - -THE CAPTAINS: Pussy, Paulie and a few other guys. SOLDIER: Christoper. #3. A "Made Guy" means a full-fledged member who has taken a sacred oath and earned his stripes. Once you're a made guy nobody can touch you. The only way you get killed is if the 5 bosses of all the families agree to it.

I really hope people refrain from posting spoilers...even opinions about certain things or seemingly innocent passing statements can be spoilers... People need to get the full experience of this series when watching the first time ...I'd advise you guys not even to look at a lot of the comments.
This series also opened up how we can tell stories in long form in much bolder creative ways.
This first epiosde was filmed a year before the other epiosdes in Season 1 and doesn't feel like the Sopranos. Very much like any show here. Kind of same old same old.
Episode 2 will feel more like the Sopranos.
But for me the Series is born in Episode 5 when we really see a glimpse of how this series is going to be. That we are in for something different and much more haunting and meaningful than other shows and movies in this genre.

Tony was also in a movie with Nicholas Cage and that Hare-lip guy called 8MM. It's pretty depraved. Feels kind of like MEGAN IS MISSING OR The Den, that I personally like but many don't. \m/
The guy you're referencing from Blue Bloods (Steve Schirripa) doesn't come on until S2E2 but he is the BEST character on the show!
