- These were my grand father old woodworking chisels, rusting in a toolbox in the shop. I used white vinegar to clean them and remove the rust, and then made new handles for some of them using some reclaimed walnut.

Excellent music choice
THE MOST relaxing video on CZcams... Watched it 3 times in a row
Love it!!! Awesome video
Great video
Nicely done!
Thanks a lot man! :)
Nice! I cant wait to do this myself.
Just go ahead and try :)
Good job, nice filming too.
Thanks man ! I try to make good projects and good video too :)
Sweet 👍🏻 👍🏻
Un travail maîtrisé !
Pourquoi est-ce que tu chauffes la partie métallique avant de l'insérer dans le manche ?
Merci ! :)
C'est pour former le trou dans le manche à la forme parfaite de la soie du ciseau
was that lin seed oil you applied
Yes, it's linseed oil, diluted with turpentine
Encore du super boulot sur la restauration de ces ciseaux à bois/gouges le manche est fait à partir de quel type de bois ?
Ici c’est du noyer, récupéré sur des anciennes armoires :)
good job
Thanks :)
Aluminium is not suitable for chisel handles, brass or steel should be used. The tapered tang of the chisel tends to expand the hole the metal should be strong enough.
Exactly, looking back at them I should have chose a better metal, but aluminum was all I had on hand
I’m about to make handles for some files...think I’m going to follow your modus operandi...my one question is what does hitting the chisel insert area with the butane torch do? I’ve not seen anyone else doing this buuuuuut I have a butane torch I’m always looking for a reason to fire up lol
I drilled the hole in the handle slightly smaller than the chisel tang. I heated up before inserting it so that the wood burned to be the exact size for it.
Hope it's clear :)
@@FrenchCoastWorkshop that’s a great idea I’ve never seen anyone use. 👍🏻
Everyone else I’ve seen always make complicated wedges or just use a poorly fitted round hole.
I had to mute the video though 😵💫
Where is the music from?
I mainly take my music from CZcams Audio Library
not gonna hate. Better than anything thats come from china thats for sure :P
At 4:35 why heat the end which goes into the handle?
It's a common technique for tools with tangs (chisels, knives etc). By making the hole in the handle a little too small, when the hot steel is pressed in it will burn away the wood anywhere it makes contact and result in a perfectly shaped socket
Ja. That is how you do NOT do it.
what's with the bad music? got a headache.
Beautiful work but that music might be the worst thing I've ever had the misfortune of hearing
Does each chisel have a specific handle design or did you design it as you went?
I just designed them as I went. I tried to round some of them, and to make some others 8 sided
Talking would have made this video useful
