    Glad to see this finally come to market. We always need more privacy aware products and services especially for things like voice assistants.

    The audacity of CZcams to place a Bill Gates ad right before this video starts is amusing. Mycroft looks awesome! Having used it in the past on my Linux computer I gotta say I'm very happy to see how well the project is getting. Keep up the good work!

    In the privacy condition of Mycroft:
    Voice Commands: When you use our Services, your audio commands are transmitted to Mycroft for processing, as part of the Services. We may also collect other metadata about your audio commands, such as the time and location.
    Your Devices: When you download our software or otherwise use or register a device with us, we collect information about your device, including platform type and location.

    I would prefer an e-ink screen to save electricity. Well, it's open source so I will be able to buildf it myself.

      I'm hoping more technology companies give an option for e-ink screens, for energy savings. Less global warming then. :) E-ink could serve other future purposes this century also*.
      *Also, it would be cool if someone would release an e-ink wall so one could change the colors of a smart house. Apparently, a two color version of an e-ink wall was showcased in 2011 by e-ink's parent company. Thought that wouldn't come out til 2030. E-ink car paint would be sick. The Germans are on that right now.

    Can you guys demo video calls?
    Also, get this in the hands of the guys at Jupiter Broadcasting. Specifically the self hosted show but other shows would be awesome too... Beyond self hosted, Coder radio can look take a different applied coding skill to the device.... Not to mention.... If they all have one... That would be a cool video call demo.

      The Radio skill can stream thousands of radio stations and the Jukebox will index and play local music from a USB drive. We're also working on a Bluetooth skill so you can stream from any app on your phone (or other Bt device).

      Hey there, we hear this a bit - why does it cost more than by ? However we've also seen in recent reporting that those companies are losing up to $10 billion per year. That is how they can provide hardware so cheaply, and it feels like a great deal until you realize that you're the product not the customer...
      If we could make these 10x cheaper - I can promise you that we would!

    I do not buy products that require activation EVER. I sent back a DJI product for that reason alone. Can you change the wake word to anything you like?

    • @MycroftAIForEveryone
      @MycroftAIForEveryone  Před rokem +3

      Hi Daniel, we are working toward removing the pairing requirement altogether. The primary challenge we've had there is Speech Recognition or Speech to Text (STT). Local only STT has been basically unusable for an open domain voice assistant. Some projects have done closed domain local STT but only for a very small range of specific phrases. Eg you could turn on your coffee machine, but not ask for the weather. Other projects provide open domain local STT but it's slow and has very low accuracy - both of which make them basically unusable for a voice assistant like Mycroft.
      We're working at the moment to bring quality local STT to resource constrained devices like the Raspberry Pi 4 that runs the Mark II, in the same way we did with Mimic 3 our new TTS engine. That will remove the last critical piece that requires a backend and hence we will then make pairing optional. Though it must be noted that without pairing you won't be able to use paid API's like Wolfram Alpha without supplying your own API key. So we think there's still an important role for backend services to play, but it would then be up to each person whether they want to use that or not.
      Regarding the wake word - everything is configurable and there are even wake word plugins that will take any input text (like "hey computer") and provide a semi-usable wake word process, however for best results we would recommend training a Precise wake word model which is beyond what most individuals are willing or able to do right now.

    I would love to see such products thrive ( more user friendly , open source, privacy focused, not tied with a giant company) and not anti consumer. But you've got to change the design ( talking about the aesthetic) of this. It is not hard to make a good looking box. reach for a product designer (even a student) he will propose a better design. EVERYTHING in the design is not what you should do.
