My 'Action Man' had a Chelsea kit among his extensive wardrobe around this time. Happy days.

I used to have an Action Man with that Chelsea kit that my loving parents bought me one Christmas in the early 70's!

Great winner from Houseman who, along with his wife, met a tragic end! They died too young and are sadly missed!

The goal by Houseman (R.I.P) with the outside of the boot would have had todays Sky panellists wetting their pants.

Houseman was an underrated player. Home grown, and played in every match Chelsea played (in all competitions) during the 69/70 campaign, and netted 6 times in the Cup run, including 2 at Burnley, which kept Chelsea's cup hopes alive. From his wikipage: "His first 2 goals came when Chelsea faced Burnley in the fourth round; after a draw at Stamford Bridge, the side travelled to Burnley's home ground, Turf Moor, for the replay and, with eighteen minutes left, were trailing 1-0. Houseman picked up the ball in his own half and dribbled through the Burnley midfield, riding several challenges. He reached the opposition penalty area and smashed a shot into the top corner to equalise. In extra time, Houseman provided the cross for Tommy Baldwin to put Chelsea ahead, and then completed the comeback by scoring the third."

Sadly, the Burnley replay, arguably his best game in a Chelsea shirt, was the only match in Chelsea's cup run not to be televised, so there's no footage of the goals.

Love Ossie's sideburns. Our Miss World kit was also a spectacle in itself. People forget just how good Osgood was. Only 4 England Caps ? That's a joke.
Chelsea at home were a very tough prospect in the early 70s.

vic smith When I was a kid in the early 70's, we all wanted to be Peter Osgood when having a kick around. What a formidable strike pair Ozzy and Allan Clarke of Leeds could have been for England had they more caps.

    • @celticwarrior1365
      @celticwarrior1365 Před 5 lety +3

Aye! Ozzie was overlooked along with the likes of Keegan, Clarke, Webster and Bell!

So many talented individuals in that game. But alas probably not reflected in international caps.

That free kick on the edge of the penalty area would never been given today. The ball must have traveled about two feet from boot to arm and there was no way the defender could have got out of the way. How things have changed - football is always evolving.

The old 'bridge' designed by committee for greyhounds - loved it...even the Shed...despite going in there unwisely c.1968 with 'we hate the cockneys' scrawled on the back of me combat jacket ! A couple of scrapes (not scraps) and happy memories of a now distant age.

@ppgrp Plus no silly goal celebrations (on the pitch, anyway) either - just a shake of the hand. All for 50 pence - which is what I paid as a 'boy' I think. Great stuff indeed.
