    I just caught this video today and wow... that Lichen duster is a winner. It hangs so beautifully. I'd seen the pattern and a couple garments it was made from and wondered if it would be worth it, so many seams ! But the result would seem to be worth all the effort. I love the color on you.

    I realize my comment is late (I've been swamped at work and am just catching up on your last two videos - apologies!), but would like to make a vote for that beautiful floral cotton/linen. I think the fabric would be seen to its best advantage in something simple like the TG Bella you suggest. That kind of silhouette will allow the fabric to "sing," and you will wear it a ton, so a win-win, I'd say. Thanks as always for presenting such wonderful projects and sharing your expertise and experiences!

      @thebigsewalong  Před rokem

      Hi Kate thanks so much for watching I don’t have plans to make another right now but I can look at the pattern again and answer any specific questions you might have if that’s helpful. Also I’m doing another sew along this week and next for the O’Keefe jacket/shirt by Diane ericson. It’s not the same jacket by any means but I will show the process for applying the facings which I think are pretty similar so that might help too.

    • @katehayford5086
      @katehayford5086 Před rokem

       @The big sew along , thank you for the heads up on the O'Keefe Jacket tutorial - I will tune in!
      Basically, my notches on the shoulder seams and the notches on the back facing are not matching up, but they match if I turn the front facing pieces over, which doesn't make sense because then the collar/center back seam doesn't meet up. I don't think I got my pattern pieces upside down (wrong side mistaken for right side), but that's possible, I guess. I just can't wrap my head around it, and I think a visual will help. I'll look for your next tutorial. Thanks!

    Ooo, I love those two fabrics. And that Lichen duster - what a lovely, lovely result. Already I'm thinking of all the hacking you can do to that pattern. I'd shorten the shawl collar a bit for another look, or put notches into it, then use the basic shape for a pullover pinafore/jumper/tunic affair with perhaps a V-neck? Gores, gussets, godets - sent by the sewing gods to put swing into our lives.

    Love the pink (on my screen) fabric of the top. Did you reinforce the inset corner at the neck points of the front before sewing the back and front shoulder seams together? I couldn't tell from the video. I found that doing this reinforces the area of the corner that you are going to clip and defines the pivot point of the two seam lines.

    Hey! I got a real kick out of you calling your mannequin Dolly. Thanks for that! Love everything about your Lichen Duster. That colour is gorgeous. I have that pattern but haven't tackled it yet. You mentioned Tina Givens, I found you for the first time when I was searching for a tutorial on a Tina Givens pattern. I saw you had a Tina Givens tutorial but not for the dress I was looking for, a kind of pinafore dress with very droopy pockets. Man! Took me ages to figure those suckers out. I have some other Tina Givens patterns that I would like to make up. Now I'm a bit more confident I'll probably do a bit better with her minimal instructions. She's kind of like Style Arc in that sense, and I am ok with understanding
    their patterns now.

    • @thebigsewalong
      @thebigsewalong  Před 2 lety
