You did a wonderful job on the jacket, it is lovely!!!
thanks Lynn!
Your jacket is stunning!
Thank you!
I am just about to make this jacket and you have helped me so much, thank you...I am sur I would have done it wrong without watching this x x Janie
I’m SO glad you found this helpful! 🤗
Awesome jacket! Love it.
Thanks Pamela!
Thanks for the collar tutorial
The total layered look the portion that’s coming outside of the duster at self that’s angular and then the pan itself really great
Thanks!! 😊
I don’t know what happened to my comment, now I can’t remember what I said. Nice duster though! 🙄 Glad you are open to the Zoom call! 👏🏻👏🏻
Yes! Can you message me via Facebook so I can set it up? I don’t know how to contact you all via CZcams 😂
I just caught this video today and wow... that Lichen duster is a winner. It hangs so beautifully. I'd seen the pattern and a couple garments it was made from and wondered if it would be worth it, so many seams ! But the result would seem to be worth all the effort. I love the color on you.
I realize my comment is late (I've been swamped at work and am just catching up on your last two videos - apologies!), but would like to make a vote for that beautiful floral cotton/linen. I think the fabric would be seen to its best advantage in something simple like the TG Bella you suggest. That kind of silhouette will allow the fabric to "sing," and you will wear it a ton, so a win-win, I'd say. Thanks as always for presenting such wonderful projects and sharing your expertise and experiences!
Fab fab fab, Its a lovely style and beautifully made. Im inspired XXX
Yay! 😁
Love that duster! It's beautiful Thanks for the quick tutorial. Happy sewing!
So good to have you back . Love the colour of the Lichen Duster, looks beautiful on you. I bought this pattern a few months ago, but was a bit daunted by it , now I have to make it. I found 4 metres of dark green linen in my stash to use. Thanks for the collar tutorial x
Oooooo sounds perfect!
Stunning ❤
😊
Lovely! I like that '2-step' method for the shawl collar!
Gini, your jacket is just beautiful! You look so lovely in it and the colour is glorious. I hope you get lots of wear out of it, and it looks fabulous with that black ensemble! So good! Enjoy!!
Thanks Faith!!
Absolutely gorgeous. If you were watching your money, this linen duster wouldn’t have happened. Glad you made it.
Good point Deb! Thank you!
Congratulations on a beautiful jacket, it clearly lights you up, looked like a young girl and twirling. I must make myself something to twirl in! inspirational
Thanks everyone needs a good twirl now and then 😂
It's really lovely. The video is really helpful. I'm not sure I have the confidence to have a go at it as I'm petite and wonder if it will swamp me... however I do have some fabric for "one day" as I really love that pattern. Thank you for taking the time to explain things so clearly.
Thank you Vivien I think you can still wear this if you’re petite but I recommend making a muslin first especially the bodice. 🤗
@@thebigsewalong I will definitely do that, thank you.
Great blog. Thanks for the tutorial, I will keep this mind as my patterns become more involved. Your jacket looks great!
That was very helpful, thank you! Is there any chance that you're making another and could do a tutorial of putting the front and back facings together? I'm so confused by mine.
Hi Kate thanks so much for watching I don’t have plans to make another right now but I can look at the pattern again and answer any specific questions you might have if that’s helpful. Also I’m doing another sew along this week and next for the O’Keefe jacket/shirt by Diane ericson. It’s not the same jacket by any means but I will show the process for applying the facings which I think are pretty similar so that might help too.
@The big sew along , thank you for the heads up on the O'Keefe Jacket tutorial - I will tune in!
Basically, my notches on the shoulder seams and the notches on the back facing are not matching up, but they match if I turn the front facing pieces over, which doesn't make sense because then the collar/center back seam doesn't meet up. I don't think I got my pattern pieces upside down (wrong side mistaken for right side), but that's possible, I guess. I just can't wrap my head around it, and I think a visual will help. I'll look for your next tutorial. Thanks!
Love your duster!
Loved your lilac and lilac print fabrics! I would make a dress and duster out of those!
Thanks Kimberly!
Your Lichen Duster looks great!! I love how you finished the seams. I am definitely going to give it a try. I’m wondering if you could please tell me what the dress is that you’re wearing under the Duster in the video you showed. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers
Hi terri thanks! I think the dress is a Tina givens “Annabelle” slightly altered but I’m going to double check and let you know for sure in this weeks video
@@thebigsewalong ok, that's great. Thanks!! See you then! 🥰
Beautiful jacket and great tutorial! It’s been a while since I’ve done that type of construction. Good to see you more often! Was missing your great videos!
I’d be interested in a zoom chat! Just To share inspirations and anyway to keep connected with our creative selves!
Thanks grace! I don’t know how to contact you guys via CZcams to set up a chat can you send me a message via Facebook?
@@thebigsewalong will do! I also need to apologize for my phone! I try to click thumbs up so “I” can track the videos I’ve viewed and it said, we will inform you of my opinion… meaning that it thought I clicked the thumbs down?? I clicked up again and it said the same! So, I hope that does not negatively affect your account at all! But I did not select thumbs down at all as you are such an inspiration! I will try to be more careful when clicking buttons!
Ooo, I love those two fabrics. And that Lichen duster - what a lovely, lovely result. Already I'm thinking of all the hacking you can do to that pattern. I'd shorten the shawl collar a bit for another look, or put notches into it, then use the basic shape for a pullover pinafore/jumper/tunic affair with perhaps a V-neck? Gores, gussets, godets - sent by the sewing gods to put swing into our lives.
Thanks! I think you could do a lot of hacking with this pattern!
Gores gussets godets can’t get enough!!
The duster looks divine on you! I hope you are planning to make another one, it really suits you. I'd like to see it as a dress...slap some buttons/holes on it and poof, you have a dress. I may be a little in love with Claude.
😂 I’m a little in love with him too! Love the idea of making a lichen dress!
Love the pink (on my screen) fabric of the top. Did you reinforce the inset corner at the neck points of the front before sewing the back and front shoulder seams together? I couldn't tell from the video. I found that doing this reinforces the area of the corner that you are going to clip and defines the pivot point of the two seam lines.
I did not!! Really helpful tip Audrey, thank you!!
Love you jacket! I love details😊Thank you for the tutorial🥰. I liked your Hong Kong finish…. Bug print! I like fun prints for finishing too.
Cheryl
I figure if I’m going to the trouble of Hong Kong seams I should at least make them fun!
@@thebigsewalong I love fun prints! I found a big print linen a few years ago and made a linen jacket. I contrasted parts of the jacket with solid linens that pulled colors from the bugs.
Hey! I got a real kick out of you calling your mannequin Dolly. Thanks for that! Love everything about your Lichen Duster. That colour is gorgeous. I have that pattern but haven't tackled it yet. You mentioned Tina Givens, I found you for the first time when I was searching for a tutorial on a Tina Givens pattern. I saw you had a Tina Givens tutorial but not for the dress I was looking for, a kind of pinafore dress with very droopy pockets. Man! Took me ages to figure those suckers out. I have some other Tina Givens patterns that I would like to make up. Now I'm a bit more confident I'll probably do a bit better with her minimal instructions. She's kind of like Style Arc in that sense, and I am ok with understanding
their patterns now.
Yeah Tina Givens really relies on the person sewing to know a lot about basic construction luckily most of her patterns are pretty simple so once you’ve done one or two the others are pretty easy plus I’m always here to help you out 😃
@@thebigsewalong Gini, would consider doing more Tina Givens tutorials? Her lack of instructions is very intimidating for many of us, but the designs are wonderful. I think there are many of us out there who would be grateful to learn more from you relative to TG patterns. Thank you for considering!
@@goatgal5415 yes definitely! Thanks as always goat gal!!
I don't know how you do it, but you make the simplest design lines look so high end. And my dress form is Dolly too - great name!
p.s. yours should be spelled Dali, though 😉
OMG!! Dali!! 😂 😂 😂
Love your Lichen duster. I have this pattern and have yet to print and tape together! What 'patterns' are you wearing under it? Thanks, from Sew Authentic
Pretty sure the dress I’m wearing is a Tina Givens “Annabelle” slip that I altered a bit. I’m going to check and I’ll let you know in this weeks video 😁
I am new to your channel and am loving it! Is Haberman’s a local fabric store?
Hi CJ and WELCOME!! Yes Habermans is my local fabric store where I work once a week. Unfortunately they are a seriously “old school” store and they don’t have a shop-able website but you can view some of their lovely fabrics on Instagram @habermanfabrics.
Thank you so much for watching 😊
Love the music you use for your intro- what is it?
I use an editing program called VLLO and it’s one of their free add ons I think this song is called “childhood” but I don’t think that’s going to be very helpful 😂 anyway thank you!
Zoom chat, 👍
Yay! I have to figure out how to contact you guys maybe send me a message via Facebook?
