Walking in to the supply house wearing something from a different supply house is just a good excuse for them to throw you some freebies.

I’m a retired plumber and HVAC tech. I hated doing apartments. On Friday afternoon, landlords would call for a no heat that they handymen have been playing with all week. Then, when you get there, they tell you that they actually have multiple no heats. Meanwhile, you have other calls pending that were booked on the basis of the apartment only have one no heat.

Really enjoy your videos for the content, your sense of humor, production quality, and music. I'll keep watching even though I don't work in HVACR. Still interesting and could save me tons of money doing things myself in the future.

To check a pressure switch, hook up a manometer to the line and see what the inducer is pulling. If the inducer is pulling about 2x what the PS is rated, use your multimeter to see if the PS is closing. Doing this takes the guess work out the equation.

Other problems worth investigating with those mod-con boilers is cleaning the heat xchanger. They require annual thorough cleaning and scrubbing with CLR. If condensate can’t drain properly from heat xchanger, boiler will start throwing all types of obscure codes and have you chasing your tail. Also, when replacing an air pressure switch on these beasts, it’s also a good idea to replace the tubing. Some components within combustion gas can embrittle tubing over time resulting in leaks.

Just a note to you. The pressure you were supposed to verify was the gas pressure with unit running At 10:10 not the water pressure.

I’m changing my philosophy from it’s always the control board to it’s always the pressure switch 😂

@@theapprenticesurvivalguide we are dealing with a furnace that looked like it was dealing with a wonky stat... but we swapped it for a super basic stat and it's still doing the same thing.. only heats a couple degrees, not to the set point, and it just keeps doing that and never hits set point. This is a new issue for me... but we just swapped the inducer because it was seized si we don't want to do the control board too unless it's absolutely necessary. Just gotta rule it out too..

It’s gas pressure not water pressure. Use your monometer.

As a commercial controls guy, trust me you’re by no means the worst heating engineer for always blaming the controls board.
I’ve had call-outs from our heating guys for ‘controls issues’ to find the boiler flue hanging off, or the gas manual shut off closed (yes really).
