    Hi! We moved to PR (west side of the island) in June of 2018. Moved back to the states in July of 2021. I can TOTALLY relate to ALL the things you said about island living. I think the chill, slow paced is an island thing because it was the same in PR. All the government services, Drivers license and back then water and light were so slow and yes, everyone would tell you something different when you needed info. And yes, you would get penalized for their misinformation. Total culture shock. Business hours were subjective to what the employees and owners felt like working. I agree that living on the island forced you to slow down and have a more polite conversation and actually care about how other people were. In PR there was a HUGE sense of community between you and your neighbors. Been back in the states almost 3 years and I definitely miss something it like the warmth of the ppl. But don’t miss not having access to all the things we have here, how once task can take basically a day to complete and how everything was much more expensive because of the double tax as well. Ppl don’t get it until they actually live there! Wouldn’t change a thing as it was an amazing adventure. And my husband and I met a lot of wonderful people. Which we miss to this day. Hope your move back went as smooth as it could and welcome back!!

    I did catch the odd vlog you did in Aruba and my wife and I did at one point investigate the idea of retiring in Aruba. However, in the end, we decided the pricing of most decent properties was too steep for us and I did walk away wondering how one would feel after spending several years in such a place. We'll never know, but as vacation spots go, Aruba is number one in the Caribbean for us. We love it there. We wish you luck on you journey and success with your business.

      Real estate has gotten very expensive there as well. Healthcare is a major issue with lack of specialists for not only preventative care but emergency situations which is also an issue. It’s a great vacation spot though. Thank you!

    Aruba is one of my favorite islands to visit in the Caribbean( former travel agent - also ACE Agent). The people are great, some excellent dining options & it's so easy to get around. Congrats on your move & continued success. All The Best!

    I totally understand. Many years ago I lived in Aruba for three years. I felt that I was on vacation all the time. I’m from NY everything in NY is fast. It was a really big adjustment. I have family in Aruba so it’s really nice to go every year to visit them then back home to NY. I wish you all the best on your new journey in life. Today was the first time I saw you on CZcams.

    Thanks for the video. Definitely a NY thing to not greet people. Southerners expect respect. The example of navigating different systems is very similar to the US. I do believe that culturally, you have implied privileges so dealing with obstacles could be more challenging for you. Certain generations expect things right now and have the expectation that "energy" is so important. Best of luck to you all!

    I started following you in 2020, you helped with travel insurance for our first trip to the island in 2020. It was so quiet late that year, but really nice when we were there. Not so crowded.
    Good luck in the move back to the states. Somehow, I'll always connect you with Aruba. You two and the dogs will do amazing!!

    I just started following you. Also have a passion for Aruba and respect your choices and decisions. I agree with you on the food on the Island. Basically you have limited fish options which is odd for an Island. It's always Grouper or Red Snapper for anything close to fresh. Still love the Island though from a vacationing standpoint. Its funny sometimes I will talk to locals and they will tell me how miserable the weather is in Aruba because its always the same, never changing. Best of luck to you!

      Thanks for following and your comments! It’s a wonderful place to vacation but you are right that many locals get bored of the same thing, weather and otherwise 🙈

    What a brutally honest review, which is refreshing. I’ve traveled many times internationally and it’s always great to come home to the USA (despite its many problems).

    Wow, You left something to think about. My wife and I are considering purchasing a home in Aruba since we vacation there for two weeks out of the year. But listening to you actually living there is a totally different ball game. It's not only a big investment but I see a lot of red tape.

    • @thewanderlustjetsetter9342
      @thewanderlustjetsetter9342  Před 3 měsíci

      Would you live there full time? I know a lot of Americans who own property here and rent it out etc, you’ll still have to deal with some frustrations but it’s not exactly the same as living 12 months a year!

      @@thewanderlustjetsetter9342 Hello there. No. We will live there part time. 3 months out of the year.
      We are going for two weeks in May 2024.
      I would like to learn more what expect buying, living, and being a landlord in Aruba.
      Thinking of owning property in another country and so far away is concerning.

      There is a fb group called “American property owners in Aruba” that is a good one to join to get feedback. 3 months you will still find enjoyable and won’t need to deal with a lot of the day to day struggles I’ve been through, however the home owning process has its battles as well. Overall, I know many people who are happy with owning in Aruba. We have a house and a condo, and will be keeping both to rent out in the meantime.
