- You can buy a dongle to use wired earbuds or headphones with your computer or smartphone, but why not use an inline DAC and amplifier instead? That's the logic behind the amazing - and amazingly tiny - Fiio JadeAudio KA1 Compact Portable DAC & Amplifier. Smaller than a stick of gum, you can get either a lightning or USB-C version and dramatically improve your audio experience. Audio enthusiast and tech expert Dave Taylor checks out the new Fiio KA1 DAC & Amp and finds it's a great and surprisingly affordable upgrade to any mobile audio setup.

Just got this DAC the other day, now time to find some nice headphones to put them to use.
I've reviewed over 150 headphones here on CZcams if you do a search... !!!
WILL do thanks!!! @@AskDaveTaylor
thank you dave for this great review. I had been scouring the internet for a good dac for my iphone so i can get some lossless audio with my aful performer 5 iems which sound amazing. This review definitely helped me with my decision. got next day delivery on a lightning cable version green one cant wait.
You're welcome, thanks for the kudos. Let us know how it works once you have a few days of listening.
Is this better than ibasso dc03 pro?
Someone still here? I have a dilemma. I can’t decide between the KA1 or KA5. I want to use them with my iPhone and Sennheiser IE 400 Pro. Is the extra money worth it? Ive been told instrument separation is even better on the KA5. Thanks in advance
Edit: I would like to use the DAC on more than just my iPhone, so not having a fixed cable/input is a benefit
I'm always hovering over my videos to check for comments. Sounds like the KA5 is a better option for you, though I haven't had a chance to review it...
@@AskDaveTaylor Thanks for your reply, I will most likely get the KA5 :)
Hey there! Thanks for making this video! I have a question. I had this SAME dac with the SAME phone and started experiencing problems with a faint but slight crackling in the sound when these 2 devices are paired. It doesn't matter which app I used I got the same constant tick/crackle. Sometimes it would make a slight pop sound when putting turning the screen on and off. It's strange but it only started happening a few days after I got the KA1. I experimented with using the KA1 on my PC and on my Samsung tablet and was not able to duplicate the issue. I also tried switching headphones and the same happened. After a short while I ordered a cheaper usb dac/dongle device and the sound crackling stopped. I thought it could be a defective KA1 unit but why would it ONLY happen on my phone? Weird. I started reading on XDA developers forum online that Google's pixels have a hard time with DACs so just wanted to know if over the next few days you start seeing this issue as well. I'm curious. Thank you!
I haven't experienced this but did you reach out to FiiO to find out what they thought about the situation? Excellent job testing it all, btw!
@@AskDaveTaylor I didn't bother because I know the dac was fine, at the most they may have offered to replace it. I think the problem lies with the phone. I returned it and got a cheaper dac dongle as truly I just needed the adapter, I'm not that big of a audiophile. I noticed the ka1 would turn yellow when plugged into my Samsung Galaxy tab a7 tablet and it worked with no issues there. If i change my phone in the coming years I may reconsider.
Thanks for the review. I have a question. I use tidal but don’t splurge for hifi plus, just regular “hi fi”, so I only get streaming of 16 bit, 44 kHz Music. In other words, I would only get the blue indicator light on the ka1. Would the dac still produce better sound than without it? In other words, would the dac improve the sound of just regular “cd quality” resolution sound?
Yes. Any music source you give it will sound better in my experience.
can I also use it with my speakers or its only for headphones ????
Sure, should work with speakers too
Can I use audio technica M20x with this?❤
Yes, the ATH-M20X should be fully compatible!
