- [748] In the COVID-19/Coronavirus crisis Utrecht and the rest of the Netherlands are in a so-called "intelligent lockdown" which means people are asked to stay at home as much as possible voluntarily. What does that do to the morning rush hour? (Filmed on Friday morning 20 March 2020). More information in the blog post: bicycledutch.w...
The beautiful thing about this lockdown is how much nature has returned to my city.
nature? you mean silence?
You always have to lockdown your bicycle, except during lockdown.
Hij is goed:)
drie wiel nice one
Haha
Amsterdam hetzelfde.
haha
Wow this is a big difference from the lively streets I’m used to seeing in your videos! It is good to see most people there are taking this seriously and waiting through the pandemic. The majority of people here in Utah are keeping distance, but there are still more people on our streets than in Utrecht that don’t take this seriously.
They dont. This is just ONE moment at the right time but people are still going out over here. Its called a "intelligent lockdown"
@@VolatileHunter2 I.E. you trust people at least a little with leeway. There's still young idiots, but our new Corona contaminatons are near nil.
... hoeraaaaaaa!!!! Prachtig Video,dank je !!
I work in a diffrent big city in Holland. The stores are still open there. Customers are only allowed to come into the shop per 2.
Wow so quiet we were supposed to come to the Netherlands this spring, I’m so upset with all this awful virus.
I was looking so forward to seeing family.
We will wait till next year to come.
I love your videos, it warms my heart to watch your videos.
Next year 2021 we will have Covid-20. And Covid-21 in 2022.
Yes the virus is a year behind. But that's because the bat was sick.
Same. I had flown to the UK last week then was supposed to take the Eurostar to Amsterdam for most of my vacation/holiday. Literally, the night before my train, I got an email that the Eurostar to Amsterdam was suspended. Consequently, I had to stay in London for a few more nights then go back home to the States early as soon as I received news that Americans are strongly advised to return home as soon as possible. I am extremely bummed out from this still, as I wanted to ride a bike in the Netherlands without a destination in mind. I wanted and still want to experience the freedom of not being hit by a high-speed car, but I suppose I will still plan a trip to the Netherlands once the pandemic passes.
BicycleDutch, thank you for your service. Seeing people ride bikes as a normal mode of transport gives me hope for humanity and has unexpectedly inspired me in many ways. Keep up the great work and stay safe & healthy!
Stay smart. Stay alive. Would love to visit in the future. 🇨🇦❤️
Used to take that train being announced very often. Hope the Netherlands get back to normal soon🌷
Title of this clip is not correct. There is no lockdown in the Netherlands...
It's called an intelligent lockdown.
How much quieter do people need it to become to start calling it a lock down? I wonder though where this obsession over semantics comes from. It shouldn't matter what label we put on this crisis.
Intelligent lockdown is a smart way of saying that we have no lockdown
@@reporter172 indeed!
Mike Julsing no, it’s a smart way of saying there is in, fact, a lockdown.
I know those areas you filmed. Utrecht is like my hometown away from home. Back in the 90s I stayed in a place on Weerdsingel. I also use to go to the Rembrandt Cinema on Oudegracht and still love the area. I was going to return to Lieve Nederland for a visit, but I that plan was shot down.
Preach!!!👌👍🤞
Vind ik ook.
At the center of utrecht possibly way less people, but in transwijk too many cycling/walking/chilling unfortunately, on Friday but especially on Saturday
jep I see the same happening, I am also from transwijk :D. Overste Den Oudenlaan to be exact xD
This holds only until 16.30
I go running every day, and at that time the areas just outside the city centre, along the channels, get quite busy. Way too much for the emergency we're living in.
Wait, wut? It's too busy outside for the current situation, as you noticed WHEN YOU GO OUT ON YOUR DAILY JOGGING ROUTINE? As in, hightened respiratory amongst other people? FFS.
@@terryberdet6547 yes.
By keeping a more than reasonable distance from anyone else, doing sport can actually help.
Besides the fact that I'm not a jogger but a runner: it is known that open air activity can help the immune system, as does in general a healthy life. Many doctors are recommending it, including in this period.
So yes. I go running every day, and keep a minimum of 10 meters away from anyone else, and as such I don't need to worry.. But other people don't, as they keep on going out in groups, and care less about keeping distances.
See the difference? ;)
Cheers
@@LucaFerroglio Keeping a reasonable distance in the current condtitions and situation is difficult in a densly populated city like Utrecht. I went out a couple of days ago and cornering a street I was coughed upon by a jogger/runner, just a couple of meters away. Hence my suspicions. Doing sports is also possible indoors, going outdoors only enhances the chances of bringing others into jeopardy. I think that's absolutely selfish. So, I don't see any difference, except that you put yourself above all others because you consider yourself as less of a hazard for the eldery etc. then others in public that you are condemning.
@@LucaFerroglio also, one is appealing to the Dutch to only go out if absolutely necessary. Going for a run is recreation, and possibly a risk for others. It is selfisish.
We don't have a lockdown in the Netherlands
If one country manages to flatten the curve without a lockdown that's fine, no problem, but for now I guess it's just a matter of time with you in the Netherlands. In the end you will have one as well. The virus will set the timeline not your PM be sure🤣
@@zahariachirica5466 I think there in in the Netherlands they have as one of the few countries a balanced science-based non-hysterical response.
We do better than the countries that have a lockdown like Italy and Spain.
Nice video and especially well mapped. Here in my city of Mechelen it is as if everyone has left the city.
Stay safe out there.
This is what most UK towns look like if you wake up before like 11.
Kinda cool to see the place where that treaty was.
I like how you can't film anywhere without running into at least a few people still XD
Hello ! Howcome the description of this video is in french ?:) Are you french?
For me as a Dutch I'm glad that the stream of tourists almost stopped in the Netherlands. (Mass)tourism is destructive and most of the people who live in those cities are experiencing the negative sides of it and dont want it. Please stay home, even after the coronacrisis. Overwhelming countries with parasitic tourists isn't good for anyone, except for some hotels
Tourism isn't a problem, mass tourism is.
I went to Leeuwarden yesterday to pick up a bicycle. Busy as fuck there with cars passing by. I needed a few minutes to cross the road. Semi lockdown, but still everyone seems driving to some where.
Dutch people need to wear masks!
Comrade Shaandan the masks are used in hospitals... you know priorities, there are not enough masks.
lapland123 then how come in my country everyone has one? And we still have enough for medical staff. It’s not hard to cover up
We don't have enough masks and (medical) people are trying all kinds of inventive possibility's to re-use them or other materials etc. Some hospitals bought them from China, but they seemed (after some test) absolutely useless.

People are advised to take the bicycle instead of the bus or tram
Its looks beatiful when its quite
It must look like this, sorry to say.
Is recreational cycling possible in the current situation?
Yep! With social-distancing in mind. Cycling related adverts during the Spanish Flu from 1918/1919: i.postimg.cc/KcCLFQzN/Spanish-Flu-1918-cycling-coll.png
Yes, and basically good for you. See www.ad.nl/dossier-coronavirus/waarom-fietsen-extra-bescherming-tegen-corona-biedt~a6c20bbc/
Getting excercice is very important, it helps with your immune system Wich is vital for if you do get sick.
It's okay to take a breather, but otherwise you should stay in.
Yes, I live just outside of Rotterdam and you basically only see recreational-looking cyclists now, which is remarkable for the Netherlands. You can safely cycle recreationally because people are all spread out onto different routes and you never come close to another person. And as others mentioned physical exercise and fresh air is a good way to maintain mental and physical health despite the lockdown.
You need to plant more trees.
Awwww😍😍
in love 🥰❤
Wish we were in lockdown all the time...
Me too. The world: It is too much.
COME TO ERMELO 🏴☠️ 🤣 😹 👍
Wow nette video!
How about heard immunity?😂
herd you fool
Have you heard about herd immunity? The story spread like a wildfire
Well so far it works
how about hearing impairment?
What about it? Until there is a vaccine, all heard immunity means is getting as many people as possible sick with a disease that is lethal to more than 1% of the population and causes permanent damage to a significantly larger portion of the population.
I hope you weren't travelling by train for fun or only to make this video? Because the train nowadays is for essential journeys only!
That was implemented one day after I made these videos.
Ther is no lockdown in the netherlands.
But ok.
People are voluntarily self quarentining
Wat een verschrikking, al die drukte weer. Neehhhh!!! Laat het altijd zo blijven!!! Die drukte😵😱🤢😖
Dont lie i am from Utrecht and i was in the city yesterday, and it was busy. You have been waiting when you see no one on the streets. Ok it is a little bit quiter but not how you have filmed it..
It's a semi lockdown to be honest
Meanwhile here when i come from work....in the ghetto her 2 horses with a black car from 1347
Outside the ghetto people fishing, biking , more biking. Walking outside, more people then normal
Netherlands crazy mode but here they ignore it....like me if there would be more 2 do...lickily mediamarkt is still open and the big bizar...😂
Construction workers even still doing the roads.....so only some shop closed...and probably people drive horses again...😂

I guess you do not know what a lock down is... kids playing at parks is NOT a lockdown,, please be responsible! Wake up, or the economy that you are so much concerned, more than human lives, will take a bigger hit than with a proper lockdown. :(
There's no lockdown in the Netherlands, we're still allowed to go outside.
Man why are scared people begging to lock people up for a long time. Most politicians are corrupt as hell they make a mess of there countrys they lie and cheat and get away with it. But now you trust them to take your freedom. I will never understand this from people. Only search for Democide then you know why to watch out for governments with way to much power.
