  • [748] In the COVID-19/Coronavirus crisis Utrecht and the rest of the Netherlands are in a so-called "intelligent lockdown" which means people are asked to stay at home as much as possible voluntarily. What does that do to the morning rush hour? (Filmed on Friday morning 20 March 2020). More information in the blog post: bicycledutch.w...

Wow this is a big difference from the lively streets I’m used to seeing in your videos! It is good to see most people there are taking this seriously and waiting through the pandemic. The majority of people here in Utah are keeping distance, but there are still more people on our streets than in Utrecht that don’t take this seriously.

I work in a diffrent big city in Holland. The stores are still open there. Customers are only allowed to come into the shop per 2. Vorige week stonden mensen tot aan de overkant van de straat te wachten om naar binnen te gaan.. Ongelofelijk. Ook vallen er metro's uit waardoor het heel erg druk is in de volgende metro, echt een drama.

Same. I had flown to the UK last week then was supposed to take the Eurostar to Amsterdam for most of my vacation/holiday. Literally, the night before my train, I got an email that the Eurostar to Amsterdam was suspended. Consequently, I had to stay in London for a few more nights then go back home to the States early as soon as I received news that Americans are strongly advised to return home as soon as possible. I am extremely bummed out from this still, as I wanted to ride a bike in the Netherlands without a destination in mind. I wanted and still want to experience the freedom of not being hit by a high-speed car, but I suppose I will still plan a trip to the Netherlands once the pandemic passes.
BicycleDutch, thank you for your service. Seeing people ride bikes as a normal mode of transport gives me hope for humanity and has unexpectedly inspired me in many ways. Keep up the great work and stay safe & healthy!

      @@terryberdet6547 yes.
By keeping a more than reasonable distance from anyone else, doing sport can actually help.
Besides the fact that I'm not a jogger but a runner: it is known that open air activity can help the immune system, as does in general a healthy life. Many doctors are recommending it, including in this period.
So yes. I go running every day, and keep a minimum of 10 meters away from anyone else, and as such I don't need to worry.. But other people don't, as they keep on going out in groups, and care less about keeping distances.

@@LucaFerroglio Keeping a reasonable distance in the current condtitions and situation is difficult in a densly populated city like Utrecht. I went out a couple of days ago and cornering a street I was coughed upon by a jogger/runner, just a couple of meters away. Hence my suspicions. Doing sports is also possible indoors, going outdoors only enhances the chances of bringing others into jeopardy. I think that's absolutely selfish. So, I don't see any difference, except that you put yourself above all others because you consider yourself as less of a hazard for the eldery etc. then others in public that you are condemning.
