- Happy 75th Birthday George!
Join us in celebrating what would have been George’s 75th Birthday today by watching this special performance of one of George’s loveliest songs, Isn’t It A Pity, here performed by his friends Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Jeff Lynne and many more, at the Concert for George in 2002.
CONCERT FOR GEORGE is available now on Vinyl, CD/DVD, CD/Blu-ray, 2-CD and Digital: found.ee/CFG-r
On November 29, 2002, one year after the passing of George Harrison, Olivia Harrison and longtime friend Eric Clapton organized a performance tribute in his honor. Held at London's Royal Albert Hall, the momentous evening featured George's songs, and music he loved, performed by a lineup that included Clapton, Joe Brown, Dhani Harrison, Jools Holland, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, Ringo Starr and many more. Jeff Lynne, Harrison’s longtime friend and collaborator, produced the audio elements of the concert, while Eric Clapton oversaw the entire proceedings as Musical Director.
CONCERT FOR GEORGE captures stunning renditions of some of the most significant music of the 20th century, including “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (featuring Clapton on guitar, McCartney on piano and Starr on drums), “Taxman” (performed by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and “The Inner Light” (covered by Jeff Lynne and Anoushka Shankar).
This 4-LP box set includes the complete sound recordings from CONCERT FOR GEORGE, on 180-gram audiophile vinyl, featuring a special, mandala-design etched on side-8. This is the first time that all songs from the performance have been available on an audio configuration. The set also features a 12” x 12” booklet with documenting the event, as well as liner notes by Paul Theroux.
The vinyl set and other formats, are available to order now:

Billy Preston was an unbelievable talent.
The fifth Beatle
Billy fifth beatle forever
Billy preston we love you
Incredible both how Preston complimented the Beatles and vice-versa. And also how all of the Concert for George musicians compliment each other's styles. A once-in-a-lifetime experience!

You know how you make a legendary song immortal?
George Harrison wrote it
Billy Preston sang it
..and we all got to hear it.
Clapton played it+
Such a beautiful tribute to such a beautiful man..body & soul. His family & friends love & miss. But so do his fans world wide. 💙🙏✨️ Miss you George, if anyone has life after this life, you do ✨️💜
Great Song from George's extraordinary solo career, the album "all things must pass" still Is a music master piece...unforgettable Harrison❤
@@prathameshbhamburewell, all these years later I love you for loving this song. 😊
@@bold810 A truckload of love right back at you, sir!❤️
Billy took em all to church. God bless George and Billy.
I love this comment Anthony Pecora.. he sure did! and it was fabulous
And Brothers & Sisters, can I get an Amen!
Indeed, my brother.......Indeed!
He sure did!
@@lynnfindlay1895 Agree perfect comment! just the right touch from Billy to take this track over the top!!!
The people who knew and loved George, playing their hearts out to honor him. Technically a pure masterclass in live performance, but emotionally showing how much they all had received from George, and were trying to give it back the very best that they could. The whole concert is a gem, but this is the summit of the entire thing
I do agree 🙏
@alanparsonsfan ~ completely! It is never truer than RIGHT NOW!
That's why your comment should be kept on top 😉🙂😉
Precise
Poignant
I watch this Concert often. It’s my church.
Anyone who’s ever seen this concert- no matter in what format- can never say they haven’t witnessed a Miracle.
This is honestly the most beautiful concert in the history of all music, all these great musicians coming together to play music from a man that is so under appreciated, just to show that they love him and that we should love him too not just for his music but for all the hearts he’s touched on that stage!!
That Guy Donny What a soulful beautiful touching comment!!!!
Could not have said it better
For a while George was under appreciated, he is getting the recognition he is getting now but for a good while he was very under appreciated and outshined by Lennon-McCartney by critics
Yes but you said " by a man that IS so under appreciated " not WAS.
Somebody is back pedalling furiously.
And " outshined ", seriously??
I'd quit while you are behind mate.
What a ridiculous remark saying that George was underappreciated... For God's Sake. !!!
E. Clapton and B. Preston the two rare musicians invited to play on Beatles' White album and Let it be.
RIP Billy. Eric long life
Billy also played some on Abbey Road
Yes right
Such beautiful, poignant lyrics. George Harrison was criminally underrated.
Yes George was absolutely Brilliant
He wasn't/isn't underrated, we're here, not sure what you mean or expect?
Only by John and Paul. The rest of us know.
@@DeOmnibusDubitandum76 more paul than join. john would give george so much freedom and input on his songs, paul not so much
If that Hammond B3 solo doesn't tear you in half, you ought not claim to be a fan of music. Billy, thank you for that one. "It lifts me up when I'm feelin' down." I play that for people, and their jaws hit the floor.
I've said it SO many times in these comments. Billy took em all to Church. Best Hammond Organ Solo jam of all time (at the very least, one of the greatest ever).✌
Glenn Watson: I did not know that. Amazing, and thank you!
am a keyboard player and that solo..... his timing, how and when he slides notes is OUT of this world. Honestly I have NEVER seen a better solo..... Its the greatest solo ever on a B3.... the B3 actually sings.... sings like a person
I get more emotional now after watching Get Back
Hammond B3 at 3:15 - nothing more to say - still brings me to tears, even after 100th time I’ve heard it.
Preston and Clapton create magic here.
agree 100%
George Harrison said, "Dhani looks more like George Harrison than I do."
If this song doesn't make you cry, then you have no heart. The Beatles were family when they were young, then they had to go their separate ways, but they still carried that love with them, even through the bad times. When George's chips were down and he was fighting cancer it was Paul who got him a very private house in Los Angeles so George could be near his cancer treatments at UCLA. It was the house George passed away in. Paul was first in visiting George by his bedside, then Ringo came and sat beside George at his bedside, and if John Lennon were still alive he would have been there too. George returned to his family for love and comfort at the end.
Well said
♥️
Tears are silent images of pain
🥲
Yes, he called up his old friends from the worldwide familiy of Hare Krishna devotees, Syamasundara and Mukunda Goswami and together they all chanted the maha-mantra Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare as George left his gross material body behind and went back home, back to Godhead. His ashes were later scattered in the sacred rivers of India.
Who else gets chills at the "Hey Jude" part?
Cody Zynda how many upvotes can I give that question?😂😂
One would be too many!
Chills Galore!
Always just blows me away!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@randomuser964 Isn't it a Pity was written by George in 1966, two years before Paul wrote Hey Jude.
God bless Billy Preston. Absolutely brilliant performance.

This entire concert is masterful, but this track touches my soul. Billy Preston is...just wow.
May be the finest Hammond B-3 solo on record.... Thank you, Lord! :)
Billy Preston One of the Best if not the best💞💕💖❤️‼️
Wow indeed. He never even looked down at the keyboard.
Billy Preston....simply AWESOME*****FANTASTIC*****Really, 5°Beatle ((^_^))
I always thought if they took some time off from one another in 1970 and got Billy to join the band, they would’ve had a few more great years as The Beatles.
For me this song, along side All Things Must Pass and Here Comes The Sun are the masterpieces of George's legacy, What makes me even more astonished is that he made these songs with 26/27 years old... What a genius! What a privilege to listen to this!!! Thank you George!!!
Beware of darkness.
@@gore1089Yes, for me it's the best George's song.
The light that has lighted the world
While my guitar gently weeps?
I think this concert was the best in history! It will not, and now cannot ever happen again. Never forget to tell people you love them, for life is so short......
Thanks Hitch
I agree with you, Mr. Hitchens. This concert plays a huge role in my life. At this point, after listening to these performances for years now, I can declare this concert as the greatest ever I've ever seen.
*Thank you, all those heroes!*
Just blown away how much ease and dangerous playing Billy Preston did here. And he sang with George love in his heart. And Clapton solo is astounding. He was showing his deep friendship to the man he loved by playing his heart out. This is a must watch concert in your lifetime
The reason why Eric Clapton is one of the greatest, if not the greatest guitarist of all-time, is seen here. The way he played the solo after Billy Preston's solid vocal, and the way the sound just gives you a jolt/chills down your spine, that's what music is all about. It's about giving you a good feeling.
Who was playing the slide solo?
Marc Mann...he worked with George when he was hired by Jeff Lynne to work on the Free as a Bird sessions. He helped work on restoring the cassette tapes that John Lennon had recorded.
Damn right
Eric is good at best. I love his music but hes nowhere near the best guitarist out there. Not even close.
Leman Russ_Primarchshonor lol then why have multiple of the "greats" stated that Eric is one of the best guitarists in the world
Perfect version of "isnt it a pity', George must be proud of it.
When i fell like "man, i need to cry" i always come here.
I feel you, my bruh!
Me too
Me to. So much feeling in this performance
truth....
4:31 Holy God, the spine chills started when those backing vocals kicked in, and they didn't stop tingling till the song was over.. may be one of the best live performances of a song-- Ever.
I got goosebumps. This concert was incredible!
Agreed saw this on PBS never saw anything like it again. I went nuts.
Whats crazy is George wrote this beautiful song when he was so young. Before most of us can understand what it means to be human.
I saw George here in Seattle when he toured in 1974. He opened the show with While My Guitar Gently Weeps!! I'm in my late 60s and have been part of the ride of the Beatles since they first debuted on The Ed Sullivan Show. So glad that I got to be witness to such epic ingenious music. Billy Preston's performance with George in 1974 was nothing short of astounding! When George's throat would start to give out a little bit Billy would step in and give George a bit of a rest while giving us a masterclass and musicianship, performance and those beautiful vocals of his! I don't think the world will ever see the likes of what the Beatles spawned in 1963! Love and respect to both George and Billy and May they rest in peace in the Lord's arms for all of eternity.❤
Billy is superb here.. Great voice great playing
Dhani looks more and more like his father everyday. I like to think George was in attendance that day- smiling down at his family and friends.
I was thinking the same thing
Watching this again after spending the weekend watching the "Get Back" documentary, I have tears in my eyes as Billy Preston once again brings such heart and soul to George's music.
Yes heart and soul
Billy died a few years later .....
Billy Made The best Performance with Isnt It a pity and my sweet Lord
John, Paul, George, Ringo and Billy together again. Congrats to Billy Preston for being inducted into the Rock and Roll Half of Fame on 10/30/21
Billy Preston is so missed. An unbelievable talent.
Billy Preston the 5th. Beatle. R.I.P.
No. He wasn't the fifth Beatle.
I'm kind of with you....in terms of minutes played with the Beatles (during 1969) he probably does nudge out George Martin (In My Life and a few others and not counting orchestral scores).
You don't know how right you are

The most perfect performance in the best tribute concert I’ve ever seen. I still get misty eyed watching this. The first time I saw it I was so emotionally floored I couldn’t believe it. Billy Preston’s organ playing, Eric Clapton’s heart wrenching solo...and then Dhani doing the Hey Jude background chorus, It is just devastatingly beautiful. Watching George’s friends pour out their grief in song is as great a testimony to the beloved George Harrison as I have ever seen for anyone at any time. And you know the emotion is real. Notice the subtle cracking of Billy’s voice there. They all loved George just as much as we did.
Such a eclectic bunch of opinions. Fantastic grey cells in you all. I'm just trying to make a orchestra out of the mix. Slan agaibh leir. Dr.Bill.
Anyone who doesn't shed a tear listening and watching this is missing a big part of their soul. This is DEEP love for their friend.
You have a man, Eric, who not only lost his friend, but his own son, playing tribute to his friend, next to a son who lost his father. The circle of life is weird man. But the love on that stage that night was off the meter. And Billy Preston took em all to Church with one of the greatest Hammond Organ Solo jams ever.✌
Stunning. Never fails to lift me up. RIP both George and Billy.
Billy Preston is brilliant in this, George would be proud.
As long as I am living, I will listen to this version.. this and “my sweet lord” and “horse to water” from this concert. They fill my heart. Billy `Preston will, live on forever in my house ..and so will the very amazing Sam Brown! They both give me reason to sing and feel only good things.
This in my opinion is the best song George ever did
He had some wonderful songs ❤
Best song in the concert, billy Preston and Eric were sublime, I’ve got the box set and it’s a prized possession, probably the best concert ever, and George had such a fantastic body of work, dare I say the most talented of all the Beatles in a most unassuming way.
I am obsessed with Billy Preston now after watching GET BACK
it's touching how many people love the eternal GEORGE HARRISON.....we all missed you too early....ciao!!!!!
that "na na na" part gets me all the time ❤
You go, Billy Preston! Such soul is very appropriately for the core of this song's deep meaning.
You do justice to George Harrison's song, Isn't It A Pity.
WOW, Billy!
This makes me cry. Thank God I’m alive to watch and feel this music. Rip George.
Best version of the whole show.
"Something" takes the second position.
thebeatlesenchile true
The 3th best Performance was My Sweet Lord
George Harrison was a legend, every tune needs a Hammond solo haha.. Rip George and Billy
Boy, Billy Preston tore that Organ up and then some. Would love to see him on one of those giant ones you see in Cathedrals.
You said it! If this awful pandemic ever ends I think we should declare a national music day....celebrate whatever genre your community does best....and send it around the world......
It's all brilliant but the back-up singers, both women and men during the 2nd half, always make my day. All the complexity, with Billy and Eric allowed to surf over the top, is wonderful.
20 years ago we lost George, so sad. One of the best!
Preston and Clapton were ****ing amazing in this
I love the way Billy Preston plays the keys at 3:13 His faces are so great. You can tell he absolutely loves playing the keys there. And he gets lost in the good vibes. Like a carefree child having fun.
He looks so happy and free!
Billy died a few years later .....
It still feels like he's with us.....
George was a wonderful sun. A British sun. A sun hidden among the enormous clouds... But his rays illuminated millions of sensitive souls to its wonderful music. Thanks for being born, George. Kiss to the heaven from Argentina.
Anyone is doesn't love George Harrison is insame.
We must thank Paul and Ringo for their invaluable presence, but especially the musical director of this concert, his friend Eric Clapton and another close collaborator, Jeff Lynne... and all his friends... like Billy Preston.
among others. An Unforgettable Concert that is gaining relevance over time, produced by his beautiful wife Olivia and Dhani.
One of the best live performances I have ever, EVER seen, by anyone. Breathtaking!
Isn't it a pity (George Harrison)
Isn't it a pity
Now, isn't it a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Some things take so long
But how do I explain
When not too many people
Can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity
Isn't it a pity
Isn't is a shame
How we break each other's hearts
And cause each other pain
How we take each other's love
Without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity
Forgetting to give back
Now, isn't it a pity
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity
What a pity
What a pity, pity, pity
Михаил Сергопольцев Thank you for the lyrics. What a great performance for his 75th birthday.
Thanks for the lyrics 😊🙏
Billy Preston, the Fifth Beatle. An amazing musician.
My uncle passed away this morning. He LOVED The Beatles and Eric Clapton among others. He was in a band himself waaaay back in the day, called "Milkshake" haha He was an amazing man. He built the first TV my dads family ever had, he actually built it from scratch. He loved all music, but he was at home on a guitar; He actually managed to buy a telecaster of Eric Claptons a few years back that I was allowed to play. First and Foremost his love for music is what comes to mind when I remember him, so I'm here now (unfortunately thousands of Km's from family) having my own concert for him.
In my heart George is still alive and a love.
Same for many. Great people never die.
Concert impossible to compare with anything!!! Magnificent Billy Preston and Eric Clapton!!!!!
Chills. Literal chills when Clapton started his solo.
George was loved deeply by some very talented friends. Best concert. Happy 75th, Georgie!
Even the moments of silence in this concert are beautiful. All these people are singing and playing their hearts out for George, he was indeed a very loved and cherished man.
Kompozycja George'a to arcydzieło a to wykonanie jest rewelacyjne !
Erics performance is outstanding
I was one year old when All Things Must Pass came out. I only truly came to appreciate George's genius after he was gone. It's a great pity that I never saw him live in concert.
It's absolutly the same for me too!!!!!!
That album was the GOAT
The best concert in history, it has everything, top-notch musicians, feeling and love for what they are doing, a super connected audience.
What a beautiful tribute not for a musician (tremendously talented and sadly looked down on by Lennon / McCartney) but for a friend, a brother, a dad.
We miss you George, we miss you Billy.
This song „Isn‘t I A Pity“ was the inspiration for „Imagine“ - God bless them all
It is better than imagine in my opinion
Who says it?
It was the inspiration for Hay Jude by Paul too, even though Paul rejected it for inclusion on the Sgt Pepper's and the Revolver album.
@@braedynlenart7148 your nuts.. Good song compared to great song... Stop your bias
As relevant today as it ever was. R.I.P. "Quiet One!".
Billy Preston you made this beyond beautiful.
Billy took em all to Church with that Solo jam. Best, if not one of the best Hammond Organ solos of all time.✌
Oh my dear dear God! This is incredibly outstanding! This made my soul go visit Mars, pick a bottle of beer and back. Billy’s vocals and unreal keys and do not hold back in proclaiming Eric as one of the greatest of all times!
Man I can feel the spirit during this song. They’ve all got it. It’s as close as we can get these days to having George there. Isn’t it a pity? And not only that George is gone but the message of the song.

Awesome Sauce from Billy Preston....
Very few moments in music history come close to touching this.
By far, a Stage packed with Legends, paying and playing homage to an incredibly dear friend, and beautiful human being. There's not one single time that I can make it thru this song without having tears streaming down my face. The sheer beauty, the Love for one man's musical and personal contributions to the world... It's just unreal. This could very well be one of the greatest concerts ever played and recorded. We are all SO lucky to be able to have had it captured for us.
I'm so glad to have been born to grow up with this music. It's just beautiful man ✌️
I really miss George. It's simply amazing how much love permeates through all the people present for this concert. They weren't there for glory or recognition but to celebrate an honor their friend. RIP George.

This song is a gem of George Harrison.
i saw Billy with George in 1974 at the Oakland coliseum, how lucky I am to be watching in 2021!
I get so happy when I see Billy Preston smiling and delivering all this cool vibe, but at the same time it makes me sad to know that Billy had to struggle with depression almost his entire life because of his sexuality. Love Billy Preston!
