  • Today I run through the basics on how to tape your fingers for BJJ. Over time your fingers can really start to hurt especially if you are playing a style that is very Gi dependant. Taping your fingers/knuckles can really help the healing process and protect them from further damage.

    Great video, man. I love the detail shown into the finger taping. I’ve been training bjj for 6 months now and my knuckles have been killing me lately. I will try this tomorrow!

      Thank you for watching and commenting Walter! Tape for sure will help and I'm glad the video did as well. However try to figure out why your fingers hurt that bad in the first place. There could be many reasons as to why, but a common reason is that you might be squeezing to hard or when people go to break your grip you hold on until your fingers give out.

    Hockey tape. Yes that might be bit cheaper than jujitsu tape. Think its quite similar. Not taped up my stick 🏒 in decades

    I read some statistics that the ring finger is the weakest finger and stands for 75% of all serious single finger accidents. That's a disproportionate amount and definitely deserves some taping love if you'll only tape one!

    Do you recommend I start taping preventively? I’m a white belt and do have hand pain from time to time. Should I be taping to prevent future injury or will I end up weakening my fingers?

    • @stasisjiujitsuandyoga
      @stasisjiujitsuandyoga  Před 3 lety +7

      Good question. I would recommend you tape regularly if you experience pain in your fingers. At the same time, practice to not "death grip" every time you come in contact with the gi. Iv taught students that damaged their fingers within a year by simple gripping to hard. You will not weaken your fingers, infact, if you keep training through the pain and not tape them, at some point you will have finger joints that hurt even when opening jars.

    • @stasisjiujitsuandyoga
      @stasisjiujitsuandyoga  Před 2 lety +1

      If it's the base knuckle there is not much you can do but rest up. If it's realy bad you might want to get it checked

    How do you feel about spazzy partners who kick you or knee you in the face is it just something I need to get use to or address it

    • @stasisjiujitsuandyoga
      @stasisjiujitsuandyoga  Před 3 lety +2

      Not a fan of that. Definitely something you have to bring up. It's always a good idea to tell the head instructor to give him/her a chat after or before class. Rolling is suppose to be fun and exciting, not a stressful event.

    Thanks for the great video and tips!
    Can you please tell how you cut the whole roll into finer parts? Do you use a cutter knife?

    • @stasisjiujitsuandyoga
      @stasisjiujitsuandyoga  Před rokem +1

      Absolutely! Just get a pair of scissors and cut a cm or two down the centre length wise. Now you have two rows instead of one. If the tape roll is wide enough you might even get three rows out of it.

  • @daviderlenbush6166

    How did you cut it? Did you use a knife and cut around the roll to make it thinner?

    • @stasisjiujitsuandyoga
      @stasisjiujitsuandyoga  Před 4 lety +1

      All you do is cut an inch down the centre of it using scissors and use only one half of the roll. So essentially you have to rolls of tape and it's the perfect width for fingers

      You absolutely can hahaha. I know a student who plays guitar and trains jiu jitsu. My advice to keep your fingers healthy is to tape them and not be stubborn with gi grips.
