Just picked up a 256gb/i5 version of this laptop to use as my new travel laptop and I'm loving it so far. A huge leap over my surface pro 4 I was using. Also my first Dell. I've heard great things about the Latitudes for business and the 14 inch screen is perfect for airports and flying.

How is it now? I also have a 2021 M1 Pro 16, I recently got this one as my windows laptop alternative, to replace my Asus G14 that gets too hot on usage.
I hope this dell doesn't get too hot while using and does the battery lasts?

@@entique4216 I’m responding to your message with the dell on the desk. My battery lasts me a full work day, 8 hours.
I really like the laptop, very portable and slick. It gets the work done.
Though the fan spins out loud for sometimes which is mostly when I have it on my bed and the speaker quality isn’t really good compared to my MacBook n iPad.
      Aside that , it’s a perfect laptop.
I’m thinking of upgrading the SSD to 2tb soon cos my config is 32gb memory + 512gb storage

Thank you for this great review! I saw your 7410 review when there was a sale for a 7420 and I decided to hop on it but I always had that niggling in the back of my mind that the 7420 may have been worse than the 7410. This video has certainly relieved me of that - so let's hope the one I get is as good as yours!

Cheers popkatepeti, fast tracked the video for you mate =). I actually like the trackpad in the model 7420, not oversized like the XPS 13 9310. I can see this being a good 2-in-1 version too in the future when it gets release. I did film the case construction but removed it in the video as really its the same as pervious model and like ever other Latitude its decent =) and I already tested out the hinge in the unboxing video.

Got one of these 2nd hand a few weeks ago. I don't think the guy in the shop knew it was the 2 in 1 with 1tb drive, fingerprint login, top of the line i7, got it in as new condition for £500 and loving it. Will attach my logi 1080 cam if I'm conferencing, but other than that, it's a really neat piece of kit.
Note: I splashed a bit extra on the 90w faster charger and Premium Active Pen (PN579X) from Dell to round out the package. Money well spent if you want to do your art classes on an A4 tablet rather than paper!

Bsian Dad - thanks for another great review (in one comment you mentioned that you was thinking to crop the video to make it shorter - I am glad you did not, its perfect as it is..those who find it too long can skip uninteresting sections). Only thing I would appreciate is some brief comparison to direct competitors (f.e. HP Pro/Elite Book 640 g8). I was wondering on the performance in Cinebenches, as this os for me one of the numbers I am interested in. Score 610 in CB15 is at low end of i7-1165G7 CPUs (best machines scores close to 1000). Is that some anomaly in generally good performance? Also loooking forward for review of Latitude 5420 (I like its RJ-45 connector). Cheers

      @BsianTech  Před 3 lety +2

I am thinking from the rewatching of the webcam recording if it could be the auto Dell AI microphone adjustment causing funny issues for the quality of the sound. Again I don't change the settings and just record out of the box so most users who be in the same boat would be rather than fiddle around audio settings to give you the best experience. The drivers and software were up to date as possible from dell website as of recording of the video. Maybe one Dell rep will see this and contact me with ideas on what could be going on. Thanks for the feedback as this is welcome feedback to me, the community and Dell hopefully as well.

Depends on the target market. Dell Latitude tends to be for accountants, non-trading financial analysts using Power BI desktop, and insurance underwriters. The most likely use of the camera is for an in-house Teams meeting once a week.
The Surface Pro tends to attract the traveling consultants or sales reps, and some data analysts using Power BI desktop. For sales/consulting, they tend to use the cameras sales meetings far more often. Thus, their display is more important.

Sure, because the system was unstable at original memory speed of -4267, therefore starting with BIOS 1.13.0 they lowered to speed to -3733 to fix the issue. If you updated, the BSODs are gone but you lost performance.

@@badrbadr2327 Well... the build is solid, looks rigid. Keyboard is mediocre, keys themselves are OK, but there is no PageDown and PageUp key - they are replaced by Fn+Arrows which is stupid. Arrow keys are half size what is also dumb. To replace keyboard you have to disassemble the whole laptop including motherboard. Clickpad is quite large but I personally don't like it much as I prefer workstation class classic touchpad with physical keys. Trackpoint is missing. Display is OK, camera is OK, WiFi signal is OK. The CPU is itself 25W but the laptop can manage to cool at most 19W when setting the fan to bigger noise (bigger cooling power), therefore there is no reason to go for i7 as the laptop is unable to cool even i5 at full power for more than few minutes and you will get worse performance than from laptops with bigger size (that is better cooling) with the same CPU. Integrated GPU is suprisingly good except drivers which are Intel's legendary fail. RAM is soldered, that is not upgradeable and Dell reduced specs from original -4267MHz to -3733MHz after system shipped to customers - this is very bad behavior from Dell. WiFi card is soldered, it can't be upgraded. The guys at customer support are total lame, they can't offer any serious answer, therefore there is practically no customer support. Overall I recommend it for office work, if you have external keyboard and monitor it is quite solid performer. For work on the go it is also quite good and the negatives can be used to if you are not into heavy productivity work.

I'm thinking of getting the 7420 but an i5 with 16 gb ram. I heard the i7 has problems with fan noise. Is the i5 any better? Is the 5420 any better for fan noise? Any real practical information welcome. Thanks

No. This is for mid-level office work (analyst, accountants, or project managers). For video editing you need either the M1 MacBook Pro 14/16, or Dell XPS 13-17 models.

Backlit keys is one of the options for the latitude. You will need to check the one you are purchasing has it configured or not. If you are purchasing directly from Dell you will see it as an option in the keyboard section in the customization. This is very common for enterprise orientated laptops/mobile workstations.
