I'm glad your choosing to walk in the Word more now. I think the CSB is a very good translation, although not perfect (none are) it will be a great one for devotional reading. I use the CSB for devotions, as well! However, the "She Reads Truth" although artsy, it really is patronizing and lacks any kind of depth for growth and closeness with God. If you ever encounter one, flip through the "He Reads Truth" Bible and you'll see the difference. For a devotional purposes Bible, I would consider the "Experiencing God" Bible, in the CSB. It has an additional book that complements what is in the Bible, including the system of symbols (not necessary). It also has a workbook that is extensive and intensive in devotional study with God! I am beginning a journey with it and I find it rich and helpful in knowing God better.
The Hebrew you were reading from would make little sense, if translated word-for-word. That is why we have translations. In English, we have a glut of translations/paraphrase. Most modern translations are good. The NLT is as far away from the word-for-word as I ever recommend anyone. The Hebrew/Greek Interlinear is the word-for-word. So, one has to choose which style is more their flavor. If word-for-word, then KJV, NKJV, NASB, ESV are big in that area. If one wants more thought for thought, then NIV, NLT types. The CSB splits right in the middle. Personally, I use ESV for my deep studies and I use CSB for my devotional readings. The NIV also had tremendous study resources. I own several for study purposes! (Biblical Theology SB, Cultural Backgrounds SB, Archaeological SB, etc) I also use the NKJV for studying textual differences in the various text traditions: Textus Receptus, Critical Texts, and Majority Texts. The CSB will serve you well, as a reliable text. Trust the translation, just remember no translation is exactly perfect; INCLUDING THE KJV. Even the CSB study Bible, by Holman, is beginner friendly with smattering of word studies, archaeology, cultural background, etc. It will show you different paths of study and you can branch from there.
