- Pinky becomes Millie's new roommate. She likes the apartment. (Spacek is Pinky Rose and Duvall is Millie Lammoreaux.) 3 Women, 1977, directed by Robert Altman.

Shelley's performance here was brilliant. It's all on her face, the bravado covering the loneliness. It's the essence of screen acting. RIP
RIP Shelly Duvall ❤️🩹
She was the most perfect person I've ever seen. R.I.P. Shelley Duvall
This scene is incredibly powerful to me. The intensity of the thought behind each spoken word - you can see it in Shelley's face. She was a highly underrated actress in my opinion. And suffered from the effects of everyone in Hollywood who manipulated and exploited her. Sissy, ironically, was strong and centered and grounded, taking on Hollywood the same as if she managed a bank or a bakery. Smart, healthy, no b. s. I adore these actresses and feel such an affinity for both. The world is richer because they're in it.
Great comment!
God rest Shelley Duvall's Soul. Every single 🎭 role I have been fortunate in Life to observe her exceptional gifts in, has rendered a substantive impact upon my mind and Spirit. Aesthetically, Shelley's character in 3 Women with her devotion to the Monochromatic Buttercup Yellow inspired me to Live my Life in an EXTREMELY similar way. Only, for me, my Soulmate in color-form is Lilac. Nearly all things on and around me is a Lilac/Lavender color. Robert Altman's 3 Women in a masterpiece. I am heart-heavy knowing Shelley has departed from this world. Let us all take solace in the understanding that she no longer suffers. 🖤
Lilac/Lavender: Just like Hank Schrader's wife Marie in Breaking Bad.
@wintercame I may be one of the few Souls on this planet that has never seen Breaking Bad; but, there's a Lilac Lover on the show? I am now intrigued.
@@AvecPoesie Yes, and she was the sweetest of the characters IMO, although naive. Now that I think about it, she was more a Lavender/Purple than a Lilac/Lavender. Her clothing and home decor were purposely thematic. I loved it.
the daisy yellow in this film is like a whole other world.
It is like a shining and Carrie crossover:D Love both actresses! 😊
Shelley Duvall Forever 🫶
I have ALWAYS adored Sissy Spacek!
the power of yellow in this film
The power of color, I would say. Willie as purple, Millie as yellow and Pinky as pink. It's mesmerizing.
Had to come back to this clip after hearing the news. This is my favorite work by Shelley Duvall. She was absolutely fantastic in this eerie film.
agreed. this one is one of my all time favorites. Its like Picnic in Hanging Rock- eerie, disquieting, open to interpretation.
Rest in peace, dear Shelley. 😪
Both unique actress back in day Duval And Spacek. Always admired their looks
To me, Sissy could be more traditionally pretty, as in the prom scene of Carrie-- she just glows! (Ahem-- I'm talking about before the disaster.) Whereas Shelley's looks were original -- the goofiest-looking gorgeous girl around!
As actresses, they are both original and distinctive!
@@DavidGibson154 Agree it's sad what happened to Shelly Duval.
I feel bad about the Dr. Phil episode. But I'm in touch with a friend of Shelley's, and there's a lot of joy-- and lucidity and self-insight-- in her life. She may have times when it's otherwise, but there's so much good to look at
Shelley still is the most perfect 🤍
She thanks in the end 😀
This happened after Carrie's house got destroyed, then she escaped, changed her name to "Mildred Pinky Rose", got a new job and she met Wendy and lived with her.
Which explain why she acts like she never saw a beer on her life (I mean that scene where Wendy picks her to bar and she experiments beer' cup), it's from her previous religious mother's consequences. This poor girl had been so isolated enough to not have friends - that this why she acts too naive and like everything's perfect to her 😞
Ah, you're on to something!
@@DavidGibson154 lol 😂
🥰🥰🥰
This is the best fan theory ever!!!
@@grantreardon3541 I can't really watch the movie and don't see it as Carrie & The Shining crossover 😂 To me, they aren't Pinky and Millie but Carrie and Wendy - and even Pinky being another character but she still has a bit of "Carrie" sometimes lol
And thank you for like this theory 🤣
Sissy is so good at playing a shy character
She is!, with something hidden beneath the shyness: czcams.com/video/a1YI9nlAHaM/video.html
@@DavidGibson154 do you think pinky was hiding the fact that she was really evil and way smarter than she let on ??
She reminds me of me lol
@@ernestinemaloy8680 I wonder if she had two personalities
@@bluediamond4895 like that psychobitch joan crawford ?
My favorite Altman film….brilliant and beautiful.
I have a few favorites, it's one, for sure.
Shelley radiated a grace and beauty like no other. Mia Goth can be the only person to play her in the biopic
Amazing Talented beautiful Actress Iconic movies The Shining Popeye RIP Shelly Duvall 🌹
I remember seeing this in 1977 at the movies.
Wow! It came out just before I started going to movies on my own. Then it was years before I saw it!
Two monumentally great actresses, both Texans, which cannot have been a case of accidental casting.
Indeed! -- Altman said the film was inspired by a dream he had about Spacek and Duvall
this movie is the best acting ive ever seen in my whole entire life i dont give a fuck what some other mumbos say@@DavidGibson154
two of my favorite actresses!
Me too!
@@DavidGibson154 and I always felt that two of the most underrated performances by a female were Shelley's in "The Shining" (I think my all time fave performance)and Mia Farrow's in "Rosemary's Baby".
I love this scene of Shelley in The Shining:
czcams.com/video/OwGTfeTyP7E/video.html
And Mia is also underrated in The Great Gatsby:

@@DavidGibson154 is it just me or does Mia always seem like she's on something regardless of the role she plays ??
Bon voyage Shelley 💛💛💛
I forgot about the Stephen King connection between these two great actresses. Wendy Torrance from "The Shining" and Carrie White from "Carrie" They also both share Texas roots.
Love the yellow
sweet
RIP Shelley Duvall.
Wendy & Carrie
Olive and Loretta!
Wendy and Carrie 😀
@@DavidGibson154who is lorreta ?
One of my favorite movies!
It's such a special movie-- just to hang out with and watch these special women!
They are such oddballs, and any roll they take is better for it. Both from Texas, I think.
Both hosted the second season of SNL.
*sigh* The word is "role," with circumflex over the "o," not "roll."
amazing
That's some top-drawer awkward acting.
RIP SHELLY.
I 💛 them both
My favorite Altman film. Entrancing.
Indeed! One of the genre of films which could be called dreamlike.
I do have a few other Altman's I'd rank with it.
@@DavidGibson154 Such as?
That’s a nice apartment
Pinky thought so too! (I do too)
@@DavidGibson154 Pinky: "Ooh! It's beautiful... Perfect!"
Yeah, I'd love. That apartment!
For the 70s maybe. lol
RIP
Poor shelley
such a cool cool movie
Such a good film! ❤
Love this scene perfect
I know, right? This scene's the most perfect we've watched. 😍
I like the yellow interior design
I like your pre-edited comment, too! (It shows up in my notifications.) Hey, is that Biltmore? I was thinking about Biltmore yesterday, what 175,000 square feet of house would look like IRL
Is Pinky a lesbian? She seems in-love with her?
@@bluediamond4895 In thrall with, in a way that probably would have included a sexual aspect-- if Millie were to have initiated it (which seems more out of character for Millie, who followed social conventions more closely).
You know, now that you mention it, I could see Pinky, after her accident liberated something in her aggressively pursuing say, the twins (who also work at the spa). And dominating Millie....
@@bluediamond4895 Now that said that - I also wonder a bit about. Because I don't know, the way how she look to Millie while she helps to exercise the legs at pool, the way how Pinky smiles when she "steals" that paper that said that Millie was looking for new roommate and when she saw Millie at job (I think this was before lunch time), I don't know you but I had a little impression as she acts like she was trying to seduce or something lol
Yeah, it's beautiful - but I would feel as I'm living inside of an egg 😂
Rip. Robert. Did him, too.❤😂
R.I.P. Shelley Duvall, please spread some love and heartfelt condolences to her family. Duvall's breakthrough role was in Robert Altman's Nashville and she avoided the axe wielded by an unhinged Jack Nicholson as Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
Rip
Both hosted SNL the same year.
I did not realize that! I knew Sissy was already a firmament in pop culture, because of Carrie. But although Shelley wowed discerning filmgoers with 3 Women-- which would certainly include the SNL team-- I didn't realize she yet had the wider public exposure (which she would later get with Popeye and her own Faerie Tale Theatre and The Shining, which didn't catch on initially).
RIP Shelley. I fear Sissy will be a headline soon. 😓
that’s what im feeling about sissy as well😭
are we suppose to see ourselves in their awkwardness or is it just me 🥴
Lol, it's not just you. Shelley, especially, is relatable in this movie! I think Sissy's character is meant to be a little more of a way of seeing Shelley's
Shelley's "perfection" is laced with anxiety here, as it becomes clear that she needs the approval of others to feel good about herself, and she has found the perfect admirer in Sissy. Watch, for example, from 1:30 to 1:40, where Shelley keeps looking at Sissy, insecurely awaiting more accolades. Brilliant performance.
@@CalvinTor I watched exactly from this time, she really kept looking to Pinky - as she was waiting from more compliments.
Okay w0w
I love Shelley's reaction, as Millie. That's exactly what she "says", without verbalizing it
@@DavidGibson154 nuance is everything
@@brianmaiden8333 Nuance is what she gives us in this scene from "The Shining": czcams.com/video/OwGTfeTyP7E/video.html
Considering that Pinky just changed her personality to another one where she became rude to Millie after Millie also mistreated her at beginning - If Millie always had been nice to Pinky, would she keep being the same sweet and shy girl or would she still change for that rebel one? What do you think, David?
I think the change in Pinky came from something stronger than Millie's treatment of her-- although reading Millie's diary was a trigger, for sure. Pinky was confronted with Millie's negative view of her-- and with her own delusion about being best friends with Millie. Then, the accident in the pool. Then the detachment of Pinky's parents from her, and their exaggerated lack of interest in anything, showed Pinky was pretty much on her own from the beginning
The most perfect person she ever met also smokes. So nobody is perfect 😹😹😹😹👍
True, not even the immaculate Millie Lammoreaux!
back then you werent cool unless you smoked --
@@kathleensmith3555 Unfortunately that was true back in those times. So pinky has a point. But if she only knew how wrong she was, her self esteem wouldn’t be so low.
Sometimes, she gives me a little of pity because she wanted to have her attention but Millie acted as she didn't matter. She could be a little ''weird'' sometimes, but she looked a little nice.
@@MARLEYCATLOST I agree.
I always wondered what all the yellow was supposed to represent? That she had no imagination or taste, or she thought that was the height of sophisticated interior decorating? Aren't most dreams in black and white?
Are most dreams in black and white? So hard to test it. But I remember them as if they weee in color!
I think the yellow is supposed to represent that this is Milly's domain, so to speak. The three women of this film are "color coded," with Milly as yellow, Pinky as, well, pink, and Willie as purple. Notice that Willy wears purple, and that she and her husband own the *Purple* Sage Apartments, and how Pinky wears only pink.
@@Kelaiah01 That makes so sense! It would fit them wonderfully, with Millie being anxious, and Pinky, juvenile, in way.
@@joydancer5254 Thanks! And purple is sometimes associated with age and/or maturity, which fits Willie.
Plus, another contributing factor: yellow, pink and purple are traditionally the most feminine colors, and this movie is supposed to center primarily on women, so... yeah. XD
Why would dreams be in black and white?
Where can I watch this movie please
Hi Delores-- The DVD is on the Criterion Collection, and you can stream it (though not for free) on both Amazon and CZcams movies, as well as some other streaming services
@@DavidGibson154 I bought said DVD 15 yrs ago after I got out of the hospital recovering from an operation . Hey it wasn't like I was going anywhere soon let alone back to work . And abdominal surgery is rough ....I'm OK now I still have the movie and it plays as good as the day I bought it...😃
@@ernestinemaloy8680 Somehow, I imagine the languorous, weird tone of this movie being just right for that. Like @JamieZuniga and @StrawberrieBlueberries talked about, the power of yellow!
Jesus Christ is and will be the most perfect person you ever get in a relationship with, don’t live this life without him call on him today for eternal life.❤
