For our final retro remake of the year, we tackled the Song of 2022 that was once the Song of 1985: "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)," originally by Kate Bush and recently featured in the Netflix series, "Stranger Things." Nashville jazz / country chanteuse Sweet Megg (from our "Levitating" cover and recent Australia / New Zealand tour) returns to the mic to give this one a Western Swing flavor. See y'all in 2023!

#KateBush #runningupthathill #strangerthings4 - Hudba
Seeing Kate Bush being discovered by a younger generation because of Stranger Things was beautiful this year. Kate is a genuine musical genius, unlike anyone else. Her musical achievement is so rich, varied, original, and emotionally deep
Having said that, this rendition has, apart from text and main melody, nothing in common with the original. And that's a good thing. You shouldn't just "cover" Kate Bush songs, because it's so hard to make them better. Instead PMJ turned it into something quite different, as per usual. And very enjoyable I must say! Wonderful singer too!
@@mbrackevathe cover by Car Seat Headrest is also great, it has an unique approach to the cover, I highly recommend it
part of level 3 music studies syllabus and gcse music.
that's befor the programme
Pretty sure the band did not wait for that poor show to "discover" Kate Bush...
Just a " jump on the bandwagon" opportunity.
You know that feeling Douglas Adams describes where you get this longing directly proportional from how far you are from home? And since Ford was on Earth and his home was Betelguese, it was a stronger feeling than anyone on Earth could understand?
That kind of describes how I feel having been a fan of Kate Bush for almost 30 years. And RUTH was the first Kate Bush song I ever heard. And all these people are just discovering her for the first time. Even people that I've tried to get to listen to her over the years who didn't get her are finally listening. It's overwhelming.
The song has been changed forever. Kate Bush has been changed forever. It's making me a bit seasick, frankly. But so, so thrilled.
And this is a great cover. They kept the spirit of the original while making it their own, which are the hallmarks of any great cover.
Ok but can we have a round of applause for the saxophone? That was sexy!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 agreed! My favorite part!
Overrated
My guy is a whole vibe on his own.
My God he’s HOT….
It’s actually not that difficult, it just means you can only use half the notes the sax has. But if you already know going in that the solo won’t need any of those notes, playing one handed is super easy
One of the things I love about Postmodern Jukebox is that they really get in to the songs they perform. They are obviously excellent musicians and I get the impression they knock out a lot of recordings; I don't know how quickly. But at any rate you can see they are enjoying themselves, as we the listeners are.
So true!
Saw them live yesterday and can confirm they are every bit as much into it live. It's great. If you ever get the chance find a spot close to the stage and you'll pick up some banter and stuff. It's all very much the real deal. They really have this much fun playing :D
Me too
@@SyntheticFuture
And well dressed, too!
The Sax Guy, so talented !
Jacob Scesney on the one-handed sax solo 💯
@@postmodernjukebox - dude can BLOW.
Watch him in their Radioactive cover! He's STELLAR
Thank you so much! 10 years strong in postmodern jukebox and hopefully decades more to come!! 🎷🧸
@@jacobscesney8710 - you go man!
I love western style version of this song the beat sounds pretty amazing and the lady's voice and dance moves are just incredible, truly a talented group right here
"that lady" is Kate Bush ... 😉
catch her All About That Bass on PMJ ...
lungs of brass and voice of silk ...
The lady is actually Sweet Megg.
Kate Bush is the original writer/singer of this song.
@@badkitty4922 just read what I posted ... you're right ! ... 🤦🏻♀️
that'll teach me to post when I'm exhausted ... color me stupid
and embarrassed lol
@@kinsley7777 I'm sorry,, I didn't mean to make you feel bad or stupid. I didn't mean to be a jerk.
I was tired, too, and wasn't phrasing my words in a respectful way.
Please forgive me for typing without thinking.
I'm not trying to sound fake or sarcastic, I really don't like hurting someone nice's feelings.
@@badkitty4922 no worries ...
I didn't take it that way at all ... I realized when I reread my *own* comment to the original reply that it sounded {or, could be interpreted as} a bit snarky ...
you're a sweetheart for even thinking about my feelings ; honestly ...
I've been on the YT streets since 2008 and it takes a genuine good heart such as yours to make me smile ...
I still keep coming back, tho' because of the irl good people like yourself ... we can sleep next year 🥱
enjoy a bit of PMJ in the Upside Down to close out the year...
Wishing all of you a Happy 2023!
Thank you for the superb 🎶 🎵. Happy 2023 to you guys. 🥰Keep up these awesome Tunes.💖
Happy New Year to you and yours, too!

Happy New Year to you, too, Mr. B! 😉🎉 Looking forward to all you, and #PMJ will surprise us with in 2023! 👍💖🎶
Thank u, guys!
Oooo. Imagine a Julie Cruze version in "The Red Room" a la Laura Palmer & Agent Cooper.
A WILD SAX MAN HAS APPEARED! Amazing vocals! Amazing arrangement! Thank you!!
a sax maniac!
Kate Bush is a pure artist. Please, more renditions? Too many great pieces just as great as this one too ignore
Would love to hear more of “This Woman’s Work”
Cloudbusting is an another masterpiece.
"Watching You Without Me" or "Night Of The Swallow" or "Army Dreamers."
Man With the Child in His Eyes
Stellar. Arrangement, soloist, combo, just stellar. This is the best PMJ cover in a while and that's saying something.
I 100% agree! Fresh and talented.
I agree! Just Wow!
As a former Blues/Jazz singer & Classical Pianist who is age 50... This is one of the best arrangements & performances of a cover that I have ever seen in my life. If not the absolute best ever! Thank You So Very Very much!
THEY RETURN! And with a rootin' tootin' BANGER no less!
Sweet Megg is a fantastic singer/musician and I hope she gets more recognition.
Props to Kate Bush -> that really is a great song even outside the Upside-Down. and props to Jacob Scesney for the one handed solo!
Buddy on the red guitar is just utterly awesome. And then the sax man takes it up a whole level. Wow!
Jacob's saxophone was the smoothest addition in a song ever. That man can play! Pure perfection.
The sax defo adds a whole new dimension to the song!
A must for tbe 2023 playlist. Fabulous performance. Can't stop listening to it.

I just can’t seem to stop coming back to this one, I’m still as amazed as the first time I listened!
I agree.
It's how I start my every day since I first saw & heard it. Best. Earworm. Ever.
I've listened to this probably about 20 times since i heard it a week ago.
One of the best covers PMJ has ever done. Best performance by Megg ever.
The call and answer arrangement is incredibly well done.
1:10 to 1:40 is flawless
1000% agree
I adored sweet meggs voice. It’s absolutely divine 💗
This ensemble of musicians is incredible, so glad to have found them. Sweet Megg is appropriately named, her voice, style, and performance are amazing!!
My god this is incredible
I love this interpretation💯
As for Kate, I was an old teenager, 1978, December sometime, Saturday night live, she did two songs - "the man with the child in his eyes" and "them heavy people"...
I remember it like it was yesterday. Because she captured my heart at that moment and I've been a loyal and giant fan ever since.
There are VERY few famous musicians who have managed to attain and retain the career elegance that she has.
She's literally one of a kind 🥰
....."Man With The Child In His Eyes" should have been a HUGE hit Stateside.....
I'll always be happy with a Kate Bush song. Great job to all involved!
So good it hurts.
This...
Yes! PMJ is EXACTLY what I needed! Awesome work as usual, folks!
And that sax entrance... that's smooth, baby.
That is a work of art. The music, the style, the vocals: all brilliant. Cheers.
Just the best cover ever. Cant stop listening. Rhythm section, Thor's twang, Megg's voice and then the sax, stunning arrangement, beautifully executed.
Every Song they perform is a really unique Cover on the highest possible Level of musical Artistry. Itˋs fantastic.
What a way to sign out on 2022.
If PMJ were to cover Kate Bush it was bound to be absolutely awesome.
Love it.
We really need an 1850's version of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights
I love this woman’s voice.
I am obsessed with that dress!
Agreed, arrangement not so much.
The absolute BEST music video ALL pushed over the winner line by one thing. Saxophone entrance. Brilliant. Absolutely.
Awesome! Your voice reminds me Florence and the machine!
Yes! I was wondering if I was the only one who got that vibe.
Less screamy and shouty though
I was reminded equally of Mary Margaret O'Hare.
@@bonusgroovesis it a bad thing tho
I exactly thought about that
OMG Vocal+bass= masterpiece
(+sax) 👍👍👍
Having the time of my life listening to this while I'm sick for New Year's. The channeling on this is so neat. Especially when the Sax guy moves across
This has to be the best arrangement of Kate's song out there. If there's a Grammy for such things, it should be sitting on your shelf, Scott. The choice of ensemble is perfect, and Sweet Megg's voice and phrasing is perfect as well. I absolutely love this. Well done!
Daym - that was a really good one!! The band is *so* tight! And what a vocal performance!
I love how you pick a tone & go with it & emulate the vibe so well we are taken away to another place & time sometimes! Epic job on your final cover of the year 💜🎶✨
Sax is the best dude ever. I’ve been following him from the Mr. Bright side cover cause he brings such fun to the show. Much much love for this cover and the ongoing efforts. Can’t wait to see this years projects
That was a great interpretation of that iconic song.
Holy shit, this was so beautiful I didn't even realize my eyes started tearing up, god damn what a way to spark up my soul
I like Kate Bush and PMJ, so I'm happy, amazing! from Japan xxx👍
If I only could...
I love this so much.
Thank you!
Once again,,, Megg,, you knocked me out~!! This is a great song, and I can imagine this over the closing credits to a movie.
Absolutely great. New member on my top 3 podium of "Best ever PMJ arrangements".
I love this so so much, giggled when the sax player popped out from the side aha
We've just seen this band in Bournemouth and they were MINDBLOWING
So far Sweet Meg's appearances have all been great, she's got the perfect retro style for your channel. Keep bringing her back :3
Sweet Megg, I saw you yesterday live in Munich and you swept me off my feet! You're emotions in this songz your voice, your sweet being. I'm amazed! So glad, that you sang this life! My favourite song from PMJ ♥️
I can't stop listening this song. Absolutely great!
You are so very talented Scott Bradlee. I really enjoy the way's you've arranged and produced the various pieces you've done. Keep on groovin' mate, and, keep 'em comin'.
babe wake up new postmodern jukebox just dropped
Honestly, this sounds amazing! You did amazing western styled version!
Out of ten, I give this performance an Eleven! Sweet Meg has a sweet voice and she could stop running up that hill and steal all the moments she wants!
Thank you PMJ! Thank you Megg! Amazing musicians! This was a favorite of my younger days and this is a great version of it. I think Kate would be proud of what a great job you all have done with her song.
What a wonderful mix of styles.
Great version! I'm glad PMJ is back with new stuff, brilliant as always. Thanks, Scott B.
The best Version by far !
PostmodernJukebox Is a MONSTER ! 👍👍
Great music by real musicians! Showcasing both talent and experience by modulating their volume as appropriate to the music. Thank you.
Thanks PMJ for providing all the necessary requisite energy for ‘Running Up That Hill’! 🏃🏽♀️GREAT way to ‘cover’ the end of 2022! 💯👏
Fantastic upbeat music, musicians are all fabulous, Kate has a beautiful voice and rendition of this song is fabulous.
2:27. thats a badass sax....and that's how you make an entrance.
I can just hear this song playing in a John Wayne Western…. PMJ: Thank you for the modest costumes! Thank you for the incredible music! Thank you! GREAT MUSIC!
Gosh she is the definition of charisma
Thank you, PMJ.........that was lovely.
A work of art
This song was amazing live. What a performance!!!
Go Meg!! I didn’t know you sang with this great band/concept! Great version...do this one at Scott's some night!!
This is honestly and phenomenal cover. Fantastic!
I didn't imagine a cover of this could work. Outstanding.
The sax is just the cream on top of a fantastic cake
So beautiful,
Thanks pmj !
Hope to see you everywhere in east of France
Happy New Year everyone and thank you for all the great entertainment in 2022. I'm looking forward for 2023 to see what you have in store for us. Stay safe and healthy.
Massive toe-tapper!!! & Sweet Megg! More More More Sweet Megg!!!!
Excellent! Arrangements, musicians, Sweet Megg all perfect!
Thanks for doing a version of this great song. I'm so happy for Kate Bush, who in the 80s was her own person, songwriter, and performer under her own control, no big record label. A long time coming, but so good to see her make the money from Stranger Things and not some corporation and to get the recognition she deserves for her great songwriting.
This amazing upbeat rendition has a relaxing vibe.
Holy cow, what a voice!
I've already been a dozen times, cannot get enough of this cover!
What an unexpected, original, and incredible cover.
What a vibe 🤌🤌🤌
The more I listen to this, the more I like it. Sterling arrangement and flawless performance. I think this is the best offering in quite a while, and that's high praise indeed.
Weltklasse !
This is my favourite PMJ - there’s so much going on and it all works. I wonder where it ranks for Scott.
J'adore 😍😍
Gosh, this is soooooo beautiful! Sweet Megg has the most gorgeous voice ever.
Everyone is so much on the spot and so professional. Like 20 years of experience in singing and playing so they know each milisecond the right mini action to play and sing. The singer, the sax player solo, giving the pro word a meaning. Same for the production. A lot of though behind building the shots, the composition, the acting, the playing. Its just wonderful to hear.
Another quality cover
When a supernatural monster from another dimension tries to kill you, but you dance him back where he came from
This performance gives me the CHILLS...in a very good way!
Simply cool!
I expected a country western vibe and almost didn’t watch because I am picky about that genre. But I truly enjoyed this rendition. It was colorful and upbeat, and very well performed.
this is spectacular.
This is a brilliant performance by Sweet Megg ….I couldn’t take my eyes off her. I’m an instant fan.
Love the sax guy!
Menudo trabajo más bien trabajado!!!.....
Muy,muy,muy, bueno!!!!!....👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I thought I'd heard my fill of that song this year....how wrong was I!!! Outstanding arrangement, awesome vocals and a cheeky wee sax man popping in there...loved every minute 👍
Love the piano interlude a couple of minutes in.
How wonderful is this.
