    Been doing basically the same thing for 40 years and also using 400-600 grit sheets of black wet/dry sandpaper..
    And it has the way more texture that you want just like the real shingles in life. Especially in larger scales. Your work is awesome young man!. Keep the videos comming please!..

    Came back to this video and rewatched it, then used your techniques to put a tar paper roof on a building I'm modeling. Turned out pretty good, so far! Thanks again!

    Pretty awesome video.... off and on I used to work for my uncle's company doing Roofing ever since the age of 14 and I have to say that sandpaper looks like authentic roofing material on a scale building. the sandpaper also kind of resembles the slate tile roofs that you see on big $$$ houses!

    Thanks for posting all these videos! They have been super helpful. For my version of this I used black poster board I picked up cheap. It’s a bit thicker than construction paper and you can give it even more dimension with the sand paper and knife.

    Fantastic tutorial! I tried this technique and got a very nice result that set my “shake-the-box” kit a bit different from all the other ones out there. Thank you for taking the time to put together these super useful videos!

    Great technique, Jason! I'm also interested in Asbestos siding and roofing! That material
    was used from about the 20s to early 60s. There are many buildings where you can see
    it today. Thanks! P.S. Tacky glue also works really well too.

    Jason, after you apply your weathering chalks, do you spray them with a dull cote or something like that to seal them??

    Jason,
    You cut the strips 3/8", does that represent 30" in HO scale. I model in S and want to convert the proper width to S. Also in another video Iwatched, you used chalk to weather the shingles. Did you use a soft or medium bristle brush?
    Thanks. Steve

    What is construction paper? It isn't a product that I've heard of before (I don't live on the US) Is it the same as sandpaper?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 5 lety +1

      It is not sandpaper. Maybe look for craft paper at a art supply store.

  • @glenfrix157

    Jason, what is the material that roof is made of (applying tar paper to)?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 5 lety

      Its chip board. I have used card board from cereal boxes before, if you cant find chip board. Michael's craft store sells it.

    Never used pastel chalks do you have to cure them so they dont come off the roof?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 5 lety

      I use a lot of pastels for weathering. You dont have to cure them or seal them. They stay on. You should try them. A box of Soft Pastels will last you for years.

      @@JasonJensenTrains just got some but shipping issue... Just posted in Overtime Group all the chalks were loose and i have 64 browns not colors. Can they be cleaned?

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  Před 5 lety

      You can clean them with a paper towel or a stiff brush.
