I'm currently enrolled in a discipleship program, here in Holbrook AZ. One of my spiritual mentor's introduced me to Matt Chandler. At first the I wasn't into Matt's style of ministry, but after I was baptized in the Holy Spirit, Matt's style really made more and more sense. Receiving the Holy Spirit was the best thing that ever happened to me..

@@holdthelineministries3640 Give me a break. Your false claim re "properly dividing the Scriptures as instructed by the apostle Paul" conveniently avoids Acts 8 refuting your erroneous anti-Spirit agenda: Act 8:14-17 ακουσαντες δε οι εν ιεροσολυμοις αποστολοι οτι δεδεκται η σαμαρεια τον λογον του θεου απεστειλαν προς αυτους TSBτον πετρον και ιωαννην 15 οιτινες καταβαντες προσηυξαντο περι αυτων οπως λαβωσιν πνευμα αγιον 16 ουδεπω γαρ ην επ ουδενι αυτων επιπεπτωκος μονον δε βεβαπτισμενοι υπηρχον εις το ονομα του κυριου ιησου 17 τοτε επετιθεσαν τας χειρας επ αυτους και ελαμβανον πνευμα αγιον
And the apostles in Jerusalem having heard that Samaria hath received the word of God, did send unto them Peter and John, 15 who having come down did pray concerning them, that they may receive the Holy Spirit, - 16 for as yet he was fallen upon none of them, and only they have been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus; 17 then were they laying hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
Sad that today's false claim to follow the NT church is belied by how differently we do things than the apostles actually did, as they were not satisfied merely by being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, as most do today, but sent apostles from Jerusalem to lay hands on them such that they received the Holy Spirit, also implying some discernible manifestation signifying such.

Blessings all. I have transitioned to reformed theology for over 4-5 years now. I have been blessed by it tremendously. I love my church and plan to stay for a long long time. Now with all that said, I have struggled with those who do not believe in this and at many times I have felt alone. I have had multiple similar experiences and I attribute it to God as a blessing. As active and living. For the sake of building the church up. I also know the extremes of the Charismatic. I was in it for awhile until I kept being challenged by God's word and by His grace realized how false it was. Praise be to Him and Him alone. Now I have had talks about it and have shared my experiences. I have never puffed myself up because of it. I have given all praise to God for the specific situations. It's been a challenge to talk with those who are opposed to it. As of late I have had some peace to be ok with it for the sake of not feeling like an outcast and in hopes to honor the Lord and not man.
I do ask for prayer on this issue and I do ask for feedback for those who have probably gone through similar experiences and have had much push back. Even offensive words said about it. Thank you. Love you all your brother in Christ.

Ohhhh brother, another reformed ex charismatic friend! Same story down to the years no joke, believe that. I struck up a conversation with my reformed pastors today and was pretty bold how I feel about the gifts. I feel like it is dishonoring to God to reject the gifts. But I left the charismatic church because there is so much falseness in it. The combination of reformed theology and belief and action of the gifts is a beautiful thing that glorifies God.

Just because there are fake spiritual gifts doesn’t mean there aren’t real spiritual gifts. There’s an evil, false version of every godly thing. There are fake tongues, false prophecies, false doctrine teaching, but there is also the real version of those things just like the Bible shows.

God can definitely show us visions but some people take this too far. Clearly that’s a gift God has given Matt but I’ve seen those who make it a regular habit, where Christians sit around and whatever comes to their mind is from God. I’ve seen this fail way more times than succeed.

For people of the book they aren't talking from the book on this topic. I was hoping for a biblical explanation of the text to support continuation. This is his thoughts and feelings not the text itself speaking. We need Exegesis of key text to get a full picture not a couple verses that don't directly deal with the discussion topic. Key text of both the opposing view and the purposed view are required to show what bias the church falls under.

?? (at 26:35) Where in 1 Thessalonians does the scripture make reference to "a fake revival that is coming that is marked by excess"...? I don't think that's correct. 1 Thessalonians speaks of the churches faithfulness and remaining faithful despite persecution. The church is praised for its faithfulness, encouraged to love another, to not live sexually immoral lives, to live life holy and staying focused on the coming of the Lord. I am confused as to why the stated context provided by the pastor for 1 Thess 5:19-22 says that its a context of false revival??

Very fancy way of avoiding the biblical arguments and replacing them with experience based argumentation. 50 minutes of double talk and false dichotomies, preaching, hospitality etc are not miraculous gifts and of course have different thresholds for error . Was hoping for better.

He said “it’s not on me” “I don’t bare the weight of saving your soul”
Did he forget that a pastor is a shepherd and Jesus said a shepherd lays down his life for his sheep? Doesn’t the word say that the pastors are judged double? Pastors today aren’t concerned about soul winning for the Lord ... it’s not about motivating or talking it’s about delivering the word of God with power (the only way to do it is to weep and pray over the souls that you shepherd after)
Heart breaking. Be careful who you let shepherd your soul. He is held accountable for every soul he speaks to.
I used to listen to chandler and the Lord has given me discernment. I pray Matt finds the way,
Listen to Whitefield, ravenhill, Andrew Murray, William Booth, The old saints

Respectfully, friend, I do believe you are missing his point. It's not that he doesn't take his role as shepherd seriously it's just that he refuses to fall into the false way of thinking (that many church leaders fall in) which assumes all weight of a person's soul falls on them. Instead, He's saying he understands that Jesus is Chief Shephard. He is the Word of God! Here is the phrase you have an issue with, in its context:
"The Spirit of God does the work of God through the Word of God. Now let me tell you why that’s such good news for me: because I have to teach the Bible. Here’s what that means. IT ISN'T ON ME. I don’t have to perform for you. I don’t have to motivate you into the kingdom. I DON'T BEAR THE WEIGHT OF SAVING YOUR SOUL. I preach the Word of God prayerfully, hopefully, and God reaps.
That frees me. That means I don’t have to have a lot of pressure on me that you like me. In fact, one of the more deadly things for you and for me is for you to prefer my style and how I do things over and above the Word of God. You will doom me, and you will doom you. No, no. What The Village Church wants to celebrate is the Word, not the one preaching the Word."
Matt Chandler is the real deal, I would hate for you to miss out on solid teaching because of a misunderstanding. Please, reconsider your stance. It will be for your benefit. He truly is a gift to the Kingdom of God. I want to encourage that kind of leadership in the Body of Christ!

    • @emily08700
      @emily08700 Před 4 lety

Is a shepherd not responsible for his sheep?
God is a just God and will bring all the souls he was held accountable for on the day of judgement.
Aside from Chandler... When was the last time you heard of a true revival happening? Does the church weep anymore? there is no more conviction of sin, there is no more travailing in prayer.
We have lost the perspective - Christianity is a war not a lecture on sunday / religious life style.
I would suggest reading about Jonathan Edwards, Edward Payson, John Hyde, Leonard Ravenhill, Charles Finney, Evan Roberts, or William Booth..
these are the true giants of the faith that we should be following after.
Please realize that The Holy Spirit is no longer in the church because we have grieved him so badly. I am praying for revival and for a great awakening... I encourage all to do the same.
Please ask Father to open your eyes and gift you with discernment to identify false teaching. I was deceived for years.

@@emily08700 I understand what you are saying and where you are coming from, but I believe I have to respectfully disagree with you. Searching the Bible, the word of God, I come to you with three scriptures: Numbers 27:16-17, Ezekiel 34:11-12, and John 10:11. In these, God/Jesus proclaims himself the chief Shepard and states what is expected of a shepard given to serve the Lord. He States that He, himself well deliver his sheep out of the places in which they have been scattered and bring them upon the mountains of Israel. He proclaims that a good shepherd will give his life for the sheep, and that a good shepherd will go out before his flock, come in before them, and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.
I don't believe that this pastor is saying he isn't a shepard or that he refuses to lead before and behind. I believe he is stating that he will give his life unto his congregation, in service, and he will act as guide and minister to his flock. He simply states that he is not responsible for the penultimate location of your soul. It isn't his responsibility to accept Christ and follow the word of God on behalf of your soul. He guides, you follow - with the caveat that you question and learn, as did the Berean church with Paul. A shepard can lead and guide, yet your walk with God is an intimate one that each of us must walk - first with ourself and God, then as a congragtion.
As to your recommendations, I will be honest and say I have not read them, although I will pursue their works. Also, as far as revivals go, have you not considered the widespread uprising of Christians in Asia as a revival?
