Why does none of the South African reviewers let their viewers know that the GPS system and maps that they release for all the other countries does not come with the 2022 i30N DCT in South Africa? So in short you have no GPS system and the Navigation system its locked to the UK, thus it cant at all be used in South Africa.
Just FYI I do own one and love it to bits, however I only found this out when they delivered the vehicle. I think its important to let people at least be aware of it, for me personally its not an issue as I got it due to the engaging drive. But for other people it might be a deal breaker.
I was in the same brand buying dilemma, GTI 8 or I30N, test drove both, I30N first and then GTI after. I knew right there and then I30N is the one. The car is just phenomenal…. I smile everyday I drive it!!… and it grabs aloot of attention… thanks for the review!!!!
The brand loyalty in SA is frustrating as it kills competition. The GTi is a great car and will always have the majority market share thanks to its comfort oriented compromise, which is understandable, but the extent to which that happens is sad. Other brands that bring in amazing alternatives just can't compete. I wish VW kept Seat in the country, for a bit more variety.
In Germany the i30N sells very well. You have to wait 6-10 Months if you go for the DCT. I was also about to buy a Golf 8 GTI Clubsport but there is just no love (from VW) to the GTI brand anymore. I bought the i30N and I'm am still waiting for delivery 🙃 Nice review btw.. Every time I see a reviewer going emotional at driving , I know I did the right thing with placing my order at Hyundai. Great review! Absolutely great. Been waiting for a POV and you delivered. The i30N is an emotional buy at a bargain. In some way, it reminds me of how a hatchback should be, sound like and drive like. The interior can be 100% improved but man you can overlook that once you drive and enjoy the car. I think the best way to describe this car is if someone drives it and feels how great it is
I drove one on a track day and said immediately this is a better drive, and feel than a Golf GTI! This diff is so intelligent, the engine revs easily and the gearbox is instantaneous. A freaking awesome hot hatch! Loved the video.
Since the first commercial of the n series velositor came out I was hooked and nxt to the corolla GR this is the on par with that. Definitely a car that's amazing and worth the buy. Thank you for the review.
Awesome video.We see this car at Dezzi Raceway at the Porsche Club track events and it's highly capable of keeping up with some Porsche models when it comes to lap times. A fellow tracker driving an M2 has great respect for this car,so you know it's good. And yes, this car is better than a GTi 🙌
When i will buy my first hot hatch the i30 N is the one...all my friends go for the Golf GTI's but I look at the more unknown vehicles to them...and great review my G definitly love to see people give their opinions on cars noone else really notices, just because it has an Hyundai badge on...
You hit the nail on the head, there is too much brand loyality in South Africa foreigners know us for not exploring other brands , when other brands are offering better quality South africans need to give other brands a the "benefit of the doubt", on that sense, competition can potentially lower prices. Enthusiasts used to love all cars, and could seek out positives and negatives for any brand and model. Now, it seems you are only an “enthusiast” if you speak well of one brand and piss on all the others. Your content has always gotten better with time, this review is no different.
I will say one thing though (fight me) it is certainly the best looking of the lot, whenever I have a discussion about the i30n, I put it in the same class in looks, as the Honda S2000...there is not a single thing I would change on the exterior. It's just 👌

How does this car want to compete with the GTi with an outdated cluster.To be fair it shud be competing with the TCR or 8 clubsport ,it will take the 8 Gti to pieces as it is much more powerful,but lacks the refinement of a GTi
Personally, I always preferred the I30N over the GTI.. The warranty aspect is a no brainer over the GTI. Plus the GTI is probably the most common car out there, and just for that, I wouldn't want it. They all look and sound the same. The I30N has much better equipment, might just be available in fwd, but it cost SO much less than a a GTI, not to mention how much less than an R. I feel like it should be a M140 vs GTI vs I30N review/video.. because then I'd prefer the M140i. You can also get a low milage F80 M3 for the same price

Very good car and I agree with you saying with South African being very brand loyal, that is going to hurt sales of this terrific car. It does a lot of things better than a GTI, but it comes down to the fact that; are the things it does better, something that you'd want. That being said, I still would take a GTI, I feel very comfortable and happy driving it, for example, with this car, you pressed the infotainment screen and steering buttons 10 times prior to the drive, where as a GTI, you can whack it in gear and be off and it will suffice most people's needs. Also, for me, personally, I like a more sophisticated interior. Not knocking this car in any way, it is amazing and a great buy, but it's not for me, GTI is fast enough and I feel at home in it. I also agree with you, when you say, go test it and maybe it will suit you better. Such an amazing car.
First thing you have to realise is that is a road legal track car so the suspension will be firm. At the moment there are guys in Aus making around 230kw/540nm at the wheels with breathing mods and ecu tune. No need for a bigger turbo. This car sells very well in Europe and Aus.
True. But there and other parts of the world, its muuuuuch cheaper than a Gti. Not here in SA. Why? If it was much cheaper in SA like the rest of the world. People would buy it.
In first world countries the selling price of new cars is lower but after paying taxes, licenses and mandatory insurance it works out close to the same thing
What taxes, license fees and insurance fees do you'll pay. Also thier are approx 3000 N's in Aus opposed to about 100 in SA and shipping costs are less to Aus than RSA
Hyundai SA Please give this man an I30N to show the Killarney crowd what it can do. I have also been interested to see how this performs especially modified and the reliability long term. Crazy that this has over 20kw more than the Golf 8 GTI.
You are forgiven for being hesitant to admit this is a much improved performance car and it beats the big brands. By the way, the engineer designing the N models comes from BMW and used to design the M models.
Wont take anything away from the Hyundai, its a great car - although the video title may be a tad judgmental. People by different cars for different reasons. This review focused largely on the performance side of things, theres lots of things other brands do better. Not everyone is driving at the limit everyday. Not everyone is prepared to give up a spine in exchange for a slightly faster corner. Its personal preference and suitability of needs. This is after all what allows so many different car brands to still be in operation.
I love this car. Hate the interior but the price was too high. I Managed to get a golf 7.5 gti with 20k on the clock for R200k less than this car with 5 year maintenance plan.
@@marothi6952 vw standard warranty is 3 years. Service plan is included in the full maintenance plan. Unfortunately, I couldn't make any performance upgrades.
@@marothi6952 don't think so. I extended the maintenance plan for another year. I'm considering selling the car for a 7 seater suv but not sure how much I will get for it. Mileage is currently 59,500km.
Brand snobby is defs a real thing.. i compared the VW polo baseline to the Hyundai i20 baseline, the specs and feel of the i20 outclasses the polo.. even the warranty.. completely happy with my purchase👍Hyundai FTW @LibeRebil

You are correct. I paid $57k for full premium spec with bucket seats. Roughly converts to R660k…Hyundai shouldn’t price themselves out of the market
