- Handling 65 lb iron tires, rolling and sizing them so they fit the wood cannon wheels. So I called this the wheelwright's gym. There is a lot of physical activity throughout the day so I really don't have a need for a gym membership.
At least not yet.

watching you throw that iron around like it's nothing has me so envious lol. I have so many health issues including a busted shoulder and lifting anything heavy has me in pain right away. you do amazing work. thank you for all you do!
No matter how big your shop is...there is never enough room.
Ain't it the truth!!
It is heart warming to know that there are still real craftsmen left in the world.
Sir, you have my utmost respect and gratitude, not only for your craftsmanship, but for your quiet, capable, peaceful spirit as well.
A glib comment for the algorithm ; I love work , I can watch it all day !
Im not surprised people thumbs down your work. They are those who want to do but cannot as they themselves are the reason they are failures. Im one who admires a mans work regardless if I could do it or not mostly not.
My shoulders are soar just watching you.
I never get tired of these videos. You'd have to wheel me away from the TV. I always spoke well of them. They are the hub of my knowledge on this subject.
I am a retired welder. I have worked all my live with steel mostly x-ray welds on natural gas pipe lines. I sit here in my easy chair and marvel at the fact that you work all alone. I don't believe that the average person that brings you work realize how hard you work and what a perfectionist you are. Really enjoy watching your videos!
a master at his craft
a master of his craft
absolutely entertaining, rewarding and enlightening video to watch
Just to put this in perspective, I'm probably ten years younger than Dave and was congratulating myself on an hour of monkeying around with some much lighter steel and a pair of pliers. Great work, as always!
And so ends the romance surrounding the process of building wagons and wagons wheels. And to think I was going to skip my little workout this morning! You sir are a machine and have clearly built a relationship with the tools of your trade. I applaud your skills and perseverance. Please don't ever stop making videos.
I admire and respect your language. No cursing and fantastic workmanship produce beautiful products that few people can make!!
I hope everyone watching appreciates that this is an enormous amount of work. Speeded up it makes it seems straightforward and simple but skill, persistance and care are required and frankly I am in awe. Thanks for my Saturday morning breakfast entertainment sir.
That explains the moniker. For me its beer:30
Actually, speeded up it still looks like an enormous amount of work and not straightforward and simple at all. Amazing craftsmanship.
It is , ive done it many times , trying to get the rollers set is a tricky job , if you take a little each time it'll get to a point where it will over roll greatly so you have to do it in one roll ..
My thoughts exactly 👍
Yes. I still wonder what a job like this would cost the buyer. It's got to be crazy expensive.
Only real men put that much love and care in that much hard work
I spent a good deal of time searching the Internet for another wainwright. There is one in the U.K., and none other in the USA. But saying there is but one Dave Engels is still an understatement.
Smoothing the wheel on the standing sand belt is an ingenious technique. Thanks
Whatever they're paying, it isn't enough.
As always, it's great to watch you on the go in the shop. Thanks for posting and all the best to you and the whole crew at Engels Coach Shop. I wish I could give you TWO THUMBS UP.
I have to appreciate the enormous amount of effort that goes into the actual work, plus the additional time and effort the video takes. Thank you for that! I do have to wonder, with your ability to design and fabricate, why you haven't adapted a motor and foot control to the wheel roller?
I worked in metal fabrication 39 years it was not easy but most all our machines were powered but it was interesting work I always enjoy your videos thanks for all the work you put into them
I love seeing the progress as you complete each step along the way to completing all of your projects.
If hard work won't kill yah and exercise is needed for longevity then Engles ought to live for at least 250 years! I am always in awe of truly skilled tradesmen as I have endeavored to be! Sir, your a human dynamo!
Boy, running that tire roller sure looks like a workout! of course bending the tires with a hammer and anvil would be a heck of a lot more of a workout!
How many of his grade in the Continental usa doing this? 1880 roller. That’s incredible. It’s so great these youtubes will be here forever. These wheels and horses built this country with these craftsmen.
I hope one day you will be able to post a photo of the completed wheels on their gun carriages. Truly a mammoth task. Keep posting videos please. Thank you from Devon, England.
Another great job done they are going to be a great set of wheels when they are done I bet you got a good workout. Keep up the great videos
i am completely blown away engles, what absolete talent you have.amazing.
Thank you so much for your videos, I find them so interesting and relaxing to watch you work but I can still appreciate how much effort you have to expend to get the job done.
The amount of work going into these wheels is truly mind boggling. Truly relaxing to watch you work!
Hi, As always a pleasure to watch you a chraftsman doing his job, looking forward to the next step, thank you.
My weekend is now complete. Thanks for another great episode of this interesting project...
Again I am amazed at the amount of craftsmanship you put into every job you do . Not to mention the muscle. I’d need a large jar of Blue Emu or Ben Gaye after a day in your shop. I salute you sir.
Absolutely brilliant just love your videos. Just enough dwell on the little points of note for to get your tip and speed up just enough to see how much mental and physical hard work goes into your craft.
Perfect delivery and a joy to watch, and thanks for posting.
Makes me smile even when l get to the end "thanks for watching" gives me a spring in my step from the rest of the day...................
Always amazing.
I sure do enjoy watching these videos and especially putting the tires on the wheels. I'm really looking forward to watching that. Thank very much for taking the time to show us how you practice your trade.
I sure hope you enjoy making these videos as much as I sure enjoy watching them.
Sensational thanks.
Work amazes me, I can watch it for hours!!! Lol! What a set of great looking wheels!
Always enjoy the shop tours, and machine functions
Thank you for Sharing you're work day Mr Engels.
It took so much effort to build those wheels. I can imagine how difficult it was without all modern tools. Thank you for your videos!
Sure enjoy watching your work.
Second time I watch this video. As impressive as the first time.
Amazing craftsmanship, thank you for sharing!
So much work goes into those! It looks like a serious workout too!
Thank you for making these videos. I really enjoy it when you talk about the history.
wow you work, i love all the home hade tools to help you out, and that meassuring wheel is so simple yet perfect
I am in awe of your abilities and wonderful talent! Yes that does include telling us step by step what your doing! Thanks and keep the videos coming!
It's a pleasure to watch you work smart!
Love these videos...amazing to see you handling the iron and machines alone. All that AND walking to shop and back home!? Tough guy... Afraid hired help would be whining about the strenuous effort after an hour or so of that. Wonderful to watch this project moving toward completion.
I love listening to your show always extremely informative and always spot-on thank you for the time that you spend and creating it and producing it for us greatly greatly appreciated again
I love watching you work.. It shows a dedication to the craft and a skill set few will achieve.. thanks for taking the time to make and post these videos..
Mr Engel, congratulations on your creativity and your competence. Thanks for the wonderful videos you give us.
absolutely brilliant, what an exceptional craftsman, so much knowledge making something very difficult, look so easy.
Thanks for uploading this, I could watch this craftsman at work all day.
I love work. I can sit around ans watch it all day.
Pure Old school craftsman.Excellent to watch, and appreciate his skill!
Thank you ECS. Well done iron work, things do have to go round even though they are flat.
Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.
The skill and dedication to the craft is amazing.
My friend Joe Bird used to make tyhese sorts of things, however he would take a piece of steel and roll the whole length to diameter and then weld the next piece on and continue until he ended up with a great big coil of steel which he would then cut to diameter. Oh, and he was a great one for attaching a small hydraulic motor to the winding handle. He had those things all over the shop.
To make a wheel is a lot of work. Love learning about the skills needed to make them.
Wow - that's certainly a real work out again thanks for showing us a real life "How it's Made" Best regards Cheers
Those were the times when beautiful reliable machines were made here in the US!
Just a treat to watch - Season's Greetings to you and yours!
Hi, I've seen a lot of videos of you and I'm always happy when I see you at work! You are a true multi-expert in what you do and with so much respect for the old craftsmanship that is all too often lost in these times .... :)
sure is hard work. thanks as usual.
you my friend are One of a Kind .its such a joy to watch you do your thing .. the wild west needed you .you have perfected the manufacture of these wheels .i'm sure yours would have lasted much longer
deine Arbeit zusehen macht gute Laune, Hut ab
watching your work puts you in a good mood, hats off
Well it was a pleasure too watch a master craftsman at work... looked mind "bending " too me Mr Engels..lol..... well as they say ..keep them wheels a-turnin sir 👍👍
You do amazing work. Thanks for showing us how it's done.
Reinventing the wheel every day sure is a hell of a workout, Dave. Considering the amount of work and the precious wood these wheels must cost a fortune!
I bet he doesn't charge near enough. But at least he works for himself.
Thanks for sharing, great job.
Wow awesome ❤️
I guess after doing twelve of those you’re tired out. It’s inspiring to see someone with the mettle to make a great job out of the daily grind!
Another outstanding video. I learn something every time I watch one of them. Please keep making em.
I enjoy your channel very much. Thank you for sharing.
Increíble, thanks mr. And God bless you!!!
A lot of highly skilled work goes into each and every one of those wheels.
Another great video I enjoyed it very much! Thank you!
If I am half as fit as you at your age I will be happy.
You my man are a machine
Que buen trabajo maestro, felicitaciones y saludos para Ud.
This is just all inspiring love it
It is truly amazing what you do with what you work with. Even tho you have all you need to do the excellent work that you do, a lot of your equipment is what the wheel rights would have used at the turn of the century or before. A skill like yours is a dying thing that will be lost forever when you decide t o stop. That is one reason your work is so amazing. The story behind how you started this line of work is probably a very interesting one as well.
Nice shop. Clean too.
Interesting, educational, fun to watch, I’m not putting enough effort into my projects. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with your thousands of viewers. From Missouri.
Just when I think there is an easier way to do something, you prove me wrong. I do think you would benefit from a set of powered rolls or put a motor on the one you have. You are a Craftsman of many trades Sir. I note a bunch of unemployables dislike this. Think of them as sawdust and slag.
Too good, Very admired.
Gee’s your a grafter my friend. Thank you you for sharing!
That is really fascinating how you measure the circumference of the wheel then cut and weld it together. Enjoyed the video. Thank you. Y'all take care and bless.
Absolute madlad.
Also very well photographed for viewing!
Amazing and excellent work done single person without assistant, technical, hard, skill in all rounds, more interesting to watch the work, with very good good ideas, techniques, many many thanks.
Bravo !!!
You know your work well, my friend.
THNXS for the work and time you did on this video so we lazy Y-T can see how it's done ...lol.
Happy holiday's / Christmas.
Greetzzz from Holland
7:45 looks like skis for the East German women's team :)
Just don’t know how you do it all, you are so talented.
I thought I did a lot at my shop wow you go my ninja
Holeecrapolee !! That’s badass !! 🤜🤛
Dude, you're really good.
I couldn't move those tyres let alone lift them. ( you can tell I am from the UK by the spelling ). Both interesting and very well presented as always. Thanks again.
Great as always, fun to watch, incredible energy (real time), be careful for your back. I would have loved to see what’s holding the top roller down. No room??
Just see one of my late video (3-5 min)
Thanks for sharing. That Old Bob.
Dave is Montana's arm wrestling champ ,wow with all your inventions I think a electric motor is in order. That's a task!!
