Such modesty and honesty. Instead of seeking distinction, he mentions those around him and how talented they all were.

Nothing "stupid" about that. It's exactly how I've felt ever since he died and even more so after seeing this interview.Incredible artist, but also so humble and sweet. I deeply regret never meeting any of the EC artists. I think the last living member is Angelo Torres.

Yeah, an incredible artist and just so lovable based on his few interviews. He was almost maddeningly humble about his incredible talent.

Yeah there is another interview on CZcams from a very weird talk show where the host was puppet or somesuch but it was very disappointing. You might want to check out the Marie Severin interview I uploaded as well. She's also incredibly charming and funny and talks about all the EC stalwarts.

Yeah I always loved his art so I was elated to see what a sweet and humble guy he was. I just wish I had gotten to meet him at a convention before he passed away.
When he starts talking about asking to do his own layouts at EC, it points out that had they stayed in business pumping out the horror, crime & science fiction, it was going to change. It already had. Feldstein had mostly burned out as a writer and had mostly switched to being a heavy handed editor and even that was waning. The war titles had already finished or switched to adventure under Severin and his pal Dawkins. Jack Davis brought in some stories of his own. Bernard Krigstein reworked 'Master Race' to his own devising. John Craig introduced Drusilla as a sidekick for the Vault Keeper and has casting about for something new. Williamson's pals Angelo Torres and Roy Krenkel had stories under their own bylines. Marie Severin at least got some fan club art put out. Had EC continued, it was going to become something else, just as it had changed from the early days when Feldstein had been an artist and Harry Harrison had worked for them. Would stories lauded today still be seen as standouts, or would be they be seen as the proto-versions of something greater (or maybe even a peak before a decline)? The great 'What if....?'

Everyone has different tastes, but Williamson's art is a thing of beauty.
