  • We made the "Ring of Random" in today's video ;) This was a fun project that I worked on with Grant and Nate from The King of Random channel. We used brass bullet shells and meteorite fragments to create a composite metal used for the rings in this video.

A big part of the problem with the meteorite not mixing in is that it was cold. If you had preheated the materials you wanted to "infuse" the brass with, you would have had better luck with the mixing......the hot brass hitting the cold meteorite wouldn't have cooled as quick, and flowed farther through the shavings. Also, shavings will block flow-through MUCH more than small chunks of the same material. With resin and a vacuum/pressure chamber, shavings work great. For forge work, chunks that are preheated, to closer to the melted material temperature, you're going to get a better mix. The chunks you could easily preheat, while the shavings would be impractical to put in just before pouring the molten material.

That’s pretty cool. What about taking your meteorite shavings and just casting them in clear resin and do a ring like that?

do a collab with Cody from Cody's lab. he is a chemistry expert and he is especially good with Metals too. he could probaly figure out a better way to get the mediorite to bond with the brass

You should make a clear resin ring that uses chips made from cutting all of your favorite materials
