    I’m so glad to see that you actually brought a real knife. A great video. I’ll have to rewatch this I don’t remember any fire kit. That’s real important to stave off hypothermia. God bless you. John

    I'd love to see a Q & A video, and hear about your potential future long term hiking plans (any additional through hikes in your future and are you still dating the person you met on the PCT?). Thanks for the informative video!

      THIS is a freakin GREAT idea!! I've never done a Q&A video before. I guess I figured no one would have any questions for me. I'll post a few polls this week to see what questions people might have that they'd want to have answered and I'll put together the video. Thank you so much for the wonderful idea!!

      Awesome! I love my Thurupack Summit Bum fanny pack. This piece of gear was a game changer for me out on trail in 2019. Now, like my trekking poles, I can't hike without it.

    Wow! This is a great video. Quick and to the point. Seems logical and smart with pretty much all of the items you mentioned which is a lot. 12 pounds can be heavy, but for that amount of items is impressive. I know that pack is pretty light itself which helps. There are some great pointers and ideas there. Thank you so much for sharing this video.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one. My day pack might be considered heavy by some, but I always insist on always carrying all of the 10 essentials, along with plenty of snacks for the day. With my gear videos, I like them to get to the point and be as informative as possible. I've sat through my fair share of videos where they just go on and on and on. The rambling makes me lose interest and retention. I make videos I want to see. :)

    I think you have everything covered! Besides not owning a few of these things (saving up for that inReach!), the only other item I have in my kit is a rain jacket. You never know with these mountain weather changes! Great video :)

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před 3 lety +6

      I hiked the PCT in both 2018 and 2019 without an inReach and had a PLB (a one-way panic button to SAR) instead because I didn't have the inReach in my budget yet. I had to buy all the rest of the gear and food I needed for that trip! It took me awhile to save up for the inReach after my PCT hikes and then I didn't realize it needed an active monthly subscription for it to work until I was ready to buy.

    I always have a silnylon tarp & chordage with me. Never seem to see it mentioned in people’s list.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před 3 lety +1

      That's a great point about the tarp. I have an emergency tarp I'll carry with me on winter, snowy hikes that I can use as an emergency shelter if I need it. In the warmer months, I carry the space blanket/emergency ivy that I can also use as an emergency shelter should I need it.

    • @TheHungryHiker
      @TheHungryHiker  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you! I thought the 12.5 lbs for a day hike might be considered on the heavier side for base weight, but I'm also comparing this to my base weight for overnight backpacking trips, which is much higher.
