Nice Video! Apologies for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you thought about - Tarbbatigan Cars Rehabilitation Tip (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a smashing exclusive product for learning how to repair your car the easy way minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin finally got cool success with it.
"9.common sense". Great to see someone using common sense. It is not so common these days.
Whats the best grade engine oil should I use in my 1994 Camry
@Ganga Din what?! that's good quality entertainment right there. not only are you learning but also being entertained. if that doesn't deserve a subscription Idk what does

4. Check battery terminals for corrosion and if so, clean with wired brush and spray with battery terminal protection spray.
#2 is tricky, because it’s on a car by car bases. Some people still have older model cars (hard to believe), which require flushing and replacing
I left my transmission fluid along too long on my truck, then it started shifting hard and ran low on fluid, truck overheated and is currently down less than a month later, keep that fluid changed and in the correct level, use Lucas stop slip if it’s a worn down transmission
I see you have your #1 fan behind you

Hi Scotty, I'm doing all of these things, I'm the guy with 541,000 miles on my '86 Toyota. I just did my battery this weekend, checked the battery and alternator, put some anti-corrosion washers on and sprayed it up, should be in good shape for the winter. I don't know if I'll live long enough to get a million as I only put on about 5000 miles a year lol, but the car runs like a dream, what a tribute to Toyota. Still with the original engine and transmission. I'm about ready to watch your latest call-in show.
you have 554k wow nice, great maintenance goes along way!
541 but thanks! What I try to do at this point is anticipate things that can go wrong and address them before it happens. I'm under the hood every day giving it a quick once over, you wouldn't believe how good it runs, a real tribute to Toyota..
rokmin do you replace the ATF?
Is it an 86 Celica?
nice man how many miles now
yes, things are not always simple. If you always use syn oil, that's fine. But switching on older high mileage cars often causes oil useage in the engine. Syn blends are a combo, some guys use em. but me, on normal cars, I use use regular oil, but a good one, like Castrol
Scotty, I've sat here for over 2 hours watching your videos and needless to say I'm 100% smarter when it comes to vehicles. lol! (Matter of fact you actually fixed my Toyota Camry without knowing it)

not if you do mainly city driving like I do. I see guys who go much longer in city driving, and see their engines falling apart when they reach 100 thousand miles from internal engine damage. the manufacturers now suggest changing the oil less frequently, but have done nothing to make the engines any different. Since their warranties are long gone when the engines do wear out, they really don't care. Planned obsolescence is not a myth.

+Scotty Kilmer Awesome! Will do! Keep those videos coming! I've heard that Jaguar cars are not a good buy since they will cause you problems like the Mercedes. Is this true in your opinion? If so, do you have a video available on that subject?
Jags are great cars during thw car warranty after that you sell it to your best enemy.
I have to disagree with the never-changing-transmission fluid thing. I know manufactures these days seal them for life and say they never have to be done, but its stupid. I own a 2002 Volvo V70XC, with a 5-speed automatic transmission built by Aisin-Warner, who also do the transmissions for Toyota. The owners manual in my car recommends that the transmission fluid never get changed unless you do alot of towing. Its at 116000 kilometers and I don't drive it because the transmission is dead. Why? Because the fluid is black and clogged up the valve body and killed it. When it gets rebuilt, I will be returning to the old 50,000km change rule. Maybe even more often than that.
Jay Kenneally But the point is, if you bought it used out don't know if it was changed ever, so you run that risk of pulling the dirt out of crevaces and ruining it, so holding out to replace it if it does break is a better option than ruining it anyway right now
I have the same year make and model, those aw55-50sn's are finicky, def not an AT you want to neglect. I'm working to keep ours in good shape
In another video Scotty corrected it saying 30,000 mile ATF replacement is necessary for under any driving condition because he thinks car manufacture now are ripping off us by either selling rebuild service or new car.
Thank you Scotty you’ve helped me ever since my first car man 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks as always Scotty
Check your coolant level when the engine is COLD;; check your oil level when the engine is COLD;; check you tire pressures when the tires are COLD -- otherwise, you get false readings.
my sandwich is hot .. its a false sandwich
Mick Kennedy True, only fluid you check while hot is Transmission fluid. Checking it while cold will give a false reading because a lot of fluid will go into the torque converter when cold.
Well, some tranny dipsticks will have a "cold" level and a "hot" level, but yes when hot it's much more accurate.
I’m starting a campaign to stop Scotty retiring.

Scotty Kilmer...you are awesome! I just posted this on Facebook to spread the word on your videos. In a great way you remind of my Uncle who was an Auto Mechanic who become a Telecommunications Engineer. He still loves working on cars and teaching people how.
If anyone wants to learn basic auto maintenance: this guy Scotty Kilmer is awesome. This video pretty much covers everything that I can do. If I can do this stuff...almost anyone can.
Of course, your car might be annoying for certain things...mine requires you to lift the engine of its mounts to change the spark plugs...grumble. For some reason, Subaru cars are great for the home mechanic (they even have dipsticks and drain plugs for transmission fluid...my old Chevy requires you drop the pan...). Have a good one!

Scotty do you recommend once a year oil changes on Mobil 1 extended performance?
Lance Tech im not scotty but if your not changing your oil every 3000 -5000 miles Scotty stretches his to 7000 your going to need a new engine or vehicle a lot sooner.
Mobil 1 extended has a guarantee on 15000 miles. They guarantee it with a manufacturer liability clause, so they'll pay you if anything goes wrong. Other synthetics you can go for 10000. 90% of people are stuck to the 3000 mile myth so forget about them and ignore. 3000 myth comes from the time they used to use castor oil as engine oil.
Doc - exactly - how to prove it. That guarantee is worthless.
Nooooooo!!!! Do not listen to this at all. I see it every day in the shop.. It kills motors. As much as I love people that listen to that, it makes my a ton of money, change your oil on a regular basis.
Scotty kilmer is a true hero
Just wanted to say thank you for all the videos you have created. Wish you lived in Michigan I would take my car to you and no one else! Keep up the good work Scotty!
I'm confused. In one video he says to change fluid even if it's lifetime, and in this he says you don't need to. Not consistent.
WARNING TO TOYOTA/Lexus OWNERS: SCOTTY/THE DIPSTICK WAS WRONG! I called Toyota today, because my Lexus was shifting badly... My dipstick has the same "No need to change atf sticker", They told me the dipstick is not correct and told me they recommend you change the transmission fluid at 100k or 30k with conventional fluid. The lifetime transmission fluid is only an advanced synthetic, it is NOT lifetime. You WILL blow you transmission if it is not eventually replaced. Replace the fluid and filter (yes, I said filter too! Contrary to popular belief, this transmission system is not completely sealed)! $50 bucks every year and 30 minutes of labor is better than wasting an expensive transmission!
Ian M Bullshit
Ian is absolutely right. There is NO such thing as "lifetime" transmission fluid. Toyota said that about our 2008 RX350. The WS "World Standard" fluid turned brown somewhere between 50,000 to 60,000 miles -- too late to have caught the problem early if we had stuck with traditional service intervals. There is also the difference in fluids for different model years. Check for the exact fluid for your make and model. To change the transmission filter you need to drop the transmission pan. That is more involved work but its worth it to clean the pan and the magnets, drain more fluid and change the filter. As for coolant the same caution is advised. Older model cars require the fluid that needs to be changed every 3 years. Using the newer fluid in an older model car may damage your cooling system, unless it's designed for the new fluid. Same is true for transmission fluid. I like Scotty's videos but sometimes he glosses over things too quickly -- like NEVER opening a radiator cap without first checking that the radiator is COOL to the touch, and the need to use a rag to cover the cap when removing it and also wearing safety glasses. People have been scalded when opening a HOT, pressurized radiator.
It was 110,000 for my 2007 Camry I changed it was dirty and can I ask is BG 44 k good for any camry toyota for fuel cleaner
Unfortunately, my 2011 Tacoma is more difficult to change transmission fluid on. Needs to be at a certain temp to even properly check the level since there's no dipstick
Rockslide just because a fluid is brown doesn’t mean it’s bad.
Scotty is the man.
This man is so dedicated in his videos. He's always switching up camera angles after almost ever sentence and I know it must take a long time to edit these videos. I'm subscribed😹
I dont get why a dead battery could damage your components. Can you clear that up for me?
Also, you forgot to mention the PCV valve. I felt goofy after a autozone rep told me its recommended with every air filter swap. the one i had was in real bad shape, and was super easy to use.
Undervolting processors can lead to instabillity. In older cars, not an issue, since they barely have any (or in some cases don't even have any). You really don't want a processor that controls something vital like fuel distribution to fuck up while the engine is running.
Listen to the video. Computers on cars need the right amount of voltage to work. A bad battery does not produce good voltage. It can cause random computer faults to occur causing all kinds of bad things to occur. Cars now days are driven by computers, not people. II replace my battery every 3 years wethers its good or not and buy the best I can find. Sears Die Hard Platnium
Best to ever come to CZcams! Thank You!

Conventional engine oil is derived directly from petroleum. Synthetic oil is developed artificially in a lab from modified petroleum compounds and other chemicals.. There are "Synthetic blend" oils as well that are a combination of Conventional and Synthetic.
Thanks but which one is the best??For engines performence.?
Nadir Waziri Synthetic is the best, lubricates better, breaks down less quickly, and you can go longer between oil changes. The downside is it costs twice as much as regular oil.
Josh Nixon go to Walmart for oil, lot cheaper
Justin P. I usually do! Still more expensive. I use Mobil 1 extended performance synthetic 5w-30 and usually get 7,000 miles to a change(not the 15,000 miles advertised, but I drive in a lot of city traffic) and it's about 9 bucks versus Mobil 1 conventional for about 5 bucks a quart. 20 extra dollars per oil change is a lot less expensive than a new engine.
Thanks. Awesome. Appreciate your help.
Again this guy is straight to the point. Which is good for people who have issues .I ts a general run down of the things most any person would need to do for there cars maintance. VVC John Sweet 50.5
Did you get up to 1 million miles on your Toyota yet?
Joshua Lawson he only does 600 miles a year so i doubt it.
your being.picky the Toyota is so like a old Timex my brother had a used Celica and turned her over 3 times I owned a old used Corolla 73 rust bucket but could cruse at 100 mph no born wish I could have that one back 🍒
if you drive 6k miles in a year, that's 60k miles in 10 years.. you're like 63? by the time you're 93 you're only going to have about 410k miles on it.. not even half way to a million miles
one can dream. But now I drive it even less as I'm having fun on my triumph motorcycle
Scotty Kilmer one can dream…
Tu Chenz the car will outlast him haha
