    I just changed the belts and idler tire on two Nakamichi Dragons, mine, and a friend's. WF measured 0.026 WTD on mine, and 0.032 on his. His pinch rollers rubber are glazed and hard, mine are better, but still old. The next step is to replace the rubber rollers then I think the numbers will look much better. Specifications say it should be no more than 0.019% WTD and 0.04% peak. When working like new I have seen the Dragon run 0.015% WTD. I have a Pioneer CT-F1250 that I will check to see what it runs after I get belts and a tire on it.

      the pinch rollers if not ok all deck works worse than ever, it seems being the most important factor on play/record section , all parts are important but if the pinch roller isn´t perfect it sure will caus it to play and record very under it´s full quality

    Low W&f on Naks is from head pad lifter

    • @BorisRibov
      @BorisRibov  Před 3 lety

      Removing the head pad lifter on Nak (it can be easy removed) still supply better W&F compared to B710/215 mechanism.

      @@BorisRibov Of course...but pad lifter is great tweak for low W&F

    I don't care how much better the Nakamichi is. I can always fix any Revox/Studer deck myself, when it breaks down and sell it, while Nakamichi is a nightmare to repair and I wouldn't even bother opening it. Revox is more economical, cheaper and it will run longer than Nak. Ever been in a situation, when NAAC motor broke in Nakamichi deck?

    • @PAFTAudio
      @PAFTAudio Před 6 lety +3

      Jeff Krong I don't care, too. I can service every Nack with NAAC system, also every Revox (and the problems in Revox is wirh the worn DD magnets). Nothing good when the magnets are weak. So, it is a business case - I can get 0.02% w&f of ever one Dragon and I bet that you cannot reach lower than 0.03% of any Revox deck.

      Jeff Krong ZX-9 and CR-7 are better than B-215 and DRAGON.

    • @PedjoGT
      @PedjoGT Před 6 lety +2

      This is not true...nak for servicing is like any other deck and these decks are pretty reliable....Revox have issue with capstan shafts and you cant service that....you must send mecha to the Revox and repair is expensive like hell.

      I would go with an Akai GX-95 ..in my opinion it is the one of the best decks ever made..i had Naks and Revox they dont last and parts are expensive and hard to find.. just my opinion

    Hi Boris,
    Respect to the Nakamichi cassette decks models, which of the following is the best?
    1. Nakamichi 682 ZX
    2. Nakamichi ZXL 1000
    3. Nakamichi ZX-9
    4. Nakamichi Dragon
    5. Nakamichi RX 505
    6. Nakamichi CR-7

    • @BorisRibov
      @BorisRibov  Před 7 lety +2

      It is a personal choice but for me:
      1. Dragon
      2. ZX-9
      3. CR-7
      4. ZX-7
      5. ZXL1000
      6 and maybe RX505
      For sure someday will collect the first 4 from the list.

    • @UberPilot
      @UberPilot Před 6 lety +2

      That's a pretty good list. I own a Dragon, ZX7, and a CR-7. The little ZX7 is a sleeper. Is cheap and keeps up with the big boys. I would include the 680ZX also.

    i prefer the revox , but have a big colection of nakamichi components ,this and the B215 as the phase linear 7000 from series two and the Z-7000 or the 5000 from TEAC, nakamichi has some issues to it´s building material quality(plastic, the most cheap, heat is a problem), the worst of all is the Dragon ,have you got those decks working as new ,the nakamichi wow and fluter is worst in nakamichi´s ,the TEAC Z-7000 is out of this world quality and it works today with perfection just by doing the regular maintenace ,the nakamichi´s all had to be repaired by a old nakamichi technician in London where my sister lives, mainly i always used Maxell,TDK and SONY also BASF till 1985 and sony in late 80´s till mid 90´s, tdk was the only brand that even building their cassettes more cheap they kept the quality, normally only C60 cassettes

      Но не е знаел (Willi), че на неговите машини ще им се скапят магнитите на директните мотори, което е нормално за 40 годишни железа.

    The 1989 Sony TCK 950 ES deck beats both hands down in every respect, the old Revox and the overrated Dragon....Sony 950 Deck has the very best all around quality, and sound, followed by the superb ASC 3001 Studio Cassette Deck from Germany. If you look inside of a Dragon it has the built and cirquit qiality of an old transistor radio...revox is better.
    If you want a workhouse super reliable deck get an Akai GX75 Mk2 or 95...

      The problem is with its weak magnets in DD motors.
