I am trying to move away from animating at 20 FPS. My goal from the beginning was to work my way up to 24 FPS (The industry standard) but I got stuck at 20. I am going to start experimenting with animating with a mix of 24 and 12 FPS, which is a more professional way to animate.
I also really need to get better animation software. Stop Motion Studio Pro is a great app and has served me well, but it still has its problems. I have been thinking about getting Dragon Frame for sometime now. But I’ve been a little hesitant because of the $200 price tag. - Zábava

off brand lego is great value but off brand minifigures are mostly terrible. they can be good sometimes though

Nice. To be fair at least when I was a kid lego's biggest competiotor was mega block and at least at that point it really did just break apart when you blow on it. Most people seem to have that experience as their base line for off brand legos.

YES MEGA is awesome, it’s a whole other thing, their figures are micro action figures which is why I switched to them from Lego.

Very interesting video. I was one of the comments featured at the beginning, and, truth is, i will never stop saying Lego knockoffs are bad.
I'm poor, i know Lego is overpriced and it's getting worse, i know you use it for your backgrounds so nobody cares becuz u dont see the Lego logo and i know Lego did not even create the Lego brick !
But we gotta be thankful. Like, Lego took the toy industry to another level, they really did. In more ways than u could imagine. This is their work, blood and tears to get to the incredibly powerful brand we know now.
And knockoffs are... bad. We have to buy less but buy better. Where are these bricks made ? By who ? Are they even paid ? I want to have a decent work and a decent life, i don't want China to become so powerful that there will be no work anymore in my country.
And then, in the end, there's morality. Ethics. Money is not everything. I buy like, i don't know, between six and eleven sets a year, from 10 dollars to 150 dollars (rarely that high ok) and if i have to get to 4-9 sets a year, well, that'll be ok ! Morality is what our generation lacks. Becuz we got everything accessible thx to the Internet, we stopped asking questions to ourselves on things such as ethics and stuff.
Im not a pro-Lego preacher. That's not the message im trying to convey here. As you brilliantly said at the end of your video, we make our own choices. But just dont base them only on money. There's more than that behind fake Lego sets/pieces.
The comedy is just as good as the Lego Movie. Keep doing this.

I have some off-brand Lego; not much, but I do try to keep it separate from the real Lego. I have been eyeing off-brand more though, due to licenses Lego doesn't have, such as Star Trek and Stargate, and military stuff.

when i first started getting legos like last year i only bought lego and hated other off brand legos but now that im trying to do stop motion and dont have enough legos to build decent backgrounds i buy off brand legos and it helped a lot and saved a lot of money

After watching your original video I did some research and constructed the Brick Bank set using WeBrick -- any parts that I couldn't find (roughly 10-15% if I remember correctly) I got from Brick Link. For me to purchase a brand new Brick Bank currently from amazon is over 650 bucks; comparatively, WeBrick cut that down to less than 200. The quality of it was overall good, there were some building techniques that didn't seem to work with the off-brand, most notably the columns that are on the first level. Color quality was slightly off too, but this were for parts at the back of the building.
So yes, as someone who wants to build a city-scape for future animations, I will absolutely forgo the Lego print on my bricks if I can save 450 bucks.

I don't have anything else to say about off brand LEGOs, I mean they do have some good minifigures like the characters from any Anime like Goku and Saber. and to be fair, those minifigures are perfect. I remember buying some Minifigures like the Street Fighters ones and The King of Fighters ones, and those aren't official bricks. problem is, I couldn't find any pieces anywhere. oh, I also forgot that I like how you added the talented animator by the name of Edbound. His animations were astonished with all the effort that has put into them. anyway, great work.
As a lego fan it just feels wrong buying fake lego but after saving a while you do get quality and the best building experience that you can get.

Ngl I collect off brand lego for the funny knockoff figures, and I usually keep them away from my real lego
I couldn’t recommend dragonframe more for you, but the few problems that I have now found a solution for are just the editing, sound collection and masking, if you can get all that together beforehand then dragonframe is perfect

I went through a die-hard LEGO purist phase when I was younger. If the right logo weren't on the stud, then it weren't in my tub. End of. (Except when relatives bought it for me as a present, but I still tried to keep it separate.) LEGO were the poor, poor monopoly company that evil, despicable smaller brands were soullessly stealing from in my small, naïve eyes. But then I started getting into LEGO trains. Train modelling I think is kind of like the gateway drug for shifting allegiances, because its something that LEGO doesn't foster as much as it used to. To get anything done satisfactorily was impossible while maintaining a purist outlook, and before I knew it I was buying custom track pieces, off brand parts and off brand sets (not knockoffs, I hasten to add, but original designs). I'm fully converted now, especially since I'm older and can see how much the price difference matters, so regularly buy parts from Webrick and the like, especially if it's for a model I don't plan on taking apart or if I'm going to modify the parts. Brand loyalty doesn't really benefit the customer in the end, so nobody should be vilified for choosing the more economic solution.
Thanks for sharing! And I agree wholeheartedly with your bottom line: Brand loyalty does not benefit the customer. No matter the product, don’t be loyal to any company. There only goal is to take as much money from you as they can.

I like knockoff Lego bricks if they aren't too bad. As long as they are similar and get the job done, they're all good to me! (Thanks for helping me with the practical effects, I use them for my Plastic Army Men stopmotions.)

As long as they work the same and can peacefully coexist with one another(like lego won’t fall off of webrick bricks because they’re like 1000th of an inch smaller or something) I can see myself using them as a cheaper alternative if I wanna buy parts for a cool moc I see online

Finally, I've been saying the same thing about different brand bricks. To be fair to Lego, their IP really appeals to kids, my 7 year old son loves Ninjago, Monkie Kid, and Dreamzzz. But after buying FO and Pantasy sets and then turned on the LED lights for my city, he stopped playing with his Ninjago city and started playing on mine. We got the Newstand and the steampunk car next which he assembled and now, we just order Ninjago and MK minifigs and buy different brands for our buildings.

I have mixed feelings about knockoff lego. I like the lego style parts so I normally shy away from brands that don't copy bricks 1 to 1. Mega Blok is fine for basic brick, but the weird molds of slopes and panels annoy me. I can work around the clutch power being a little off as long as the part dimensions aren't different (I hate KRE-O plates). I do occasionally buy sketchy chinese minifigs, because it's way more affordable than buying discontinued minifigs from the hobbit or star wars. As long as the quality is half decent, I can save a lot of money by using fake minifig torsos and headgear, supplementing real minifig arms, legs, and heads when necessary. Also fake's typically fine for bigfigs because they're mostly just a big chunk of molded plastic.
What are they going to do, throw you in Lego jail? Everyone knows those cells are practically designed to be broken out of.
