As what happened with Conor was lightning in a bottle where tons of things aligned to happen in order to have that insane impact in the sport and outside the sport and he took the most of it, in terms of fame and notoriety. Nah that Mcgregor Era of dominance before fighting Floyd and essentially retiring from MMA was different. Wasn't just his star power, which was obviously global. He was knocking people out in spectacular fashion, except for Diaz. Which made it even more crazy that after avenging his loss to Diaz he dominated Eddie Alvarez for Champ Champ status. His wars with Diaz built the rivalry which most great fighters have had, polar opposite personalities but both respected in their own right. Almost like McGregor had met the Ying to his Yang when short term explosive power meets durability and stamina. The stars aligned for Mcgregor and he capitalised.

I’ve heard this narrative about Sean’s stardom, even from himself…and it doesn’t wash.
If he was going to be this massive superstar, he would be already, that’s how it goes 9/10 times.
Conor was a global superstar, like an absolute virus…EVERYWHERE, before he was even sniffing a title.
O’Malley has had how many years in the ufc already? AND already won a title and it’s not happened. It’s not going to, he’s hit his ceiling.
His fanbase doesn’t translate into pop culture crossover like that. Odd coloured hair, an abundance of tattoos and a wild fashion taste doesn’t make up for a lack of charisma/personality.

    • @iwanvickery6547
      @iwanvickery6547 Před 2 měsíci +5

      Completely agree
He is a great fighter. He seems like a nice enough guy when he’s not showing off.
But when he shows off. Cuts promos it feels forced. And he is intelligent enough to recognise when it isn’t landing but continues on his next fight regardless.
He looks like your lesbian aunt wearing a clown outfit because it shows of her ‘personality’
This is why he won’t cross over to superstardom
But he can continue to win and be undeniable and he can be a star but not a massive super star.

Chito didn't "allow" O'Malley to do his game plan. Suga shut down everything Chito tried to do with power and precision. He gave him to many things to think about. Even when Chito would start to get some offense going, Suga had an answer for it. And just because Chito can't be knocked out, doesn't mean he wasn't feeling those shots O'Malley was landing. When everything you worked on in the gym becomes obsolete, Its easy to become hesitant.

The UFC doesn't want another Conor anyway, because Dana doesn't want anyone (except himself) in the UFC becoming bigger than the brand. Someone like Conor has too much leverage in contract negotiations and doesn't have to fight to make money thus by extension 'depriving' Dana and the UFC of additional money.

I know people have been discrediting chito after this but going into this everyone held that loss over Sean's head and people still had a feeling chito could beat Sean, or Sean would be super boring. YET Sean went out there and put on a 5 round masterclass. Proving his cardio and levels to his skills and fight IQ. I've never seen Chito THAT hurt before and even tho Cory beat chito, it's crazy how Sean was able to damage chito that bad. He has very effective offensive aggression. Most people with feints and his abilities don't fight like Sean. Others need there opponent to come to them in order to maybe counter them but Sean's proven he is Effective fighting in pretty much every direction, either stance, crazy timing juking output which makes his feints work more because he actually attacks mixed with-in them. It's awesome to watch
It's MMA so anything can happen but I truly see so much evolution in O'malley's skills. Every opponent has gone against Sean with the goal of taking him down. Look how he beat Thomas Almada. In a lot of his fights he's shown potential of what he's capable of and I really think he can cement himself in batamweight history. Ilia's acting all arrogant like he runs the UFC with no title defenses so Ilia should focus on defending his belt. The Merab & Cory fights would be epic for his 135 fight list.

Sean O'Malley is a good fighter who the UFC puts in handicapped matches. I knew going in this was going to be one sided, because chito is quite literally a punching bag that sometimes Homer Simpsons his way to a victory. Of course the ufc couldn't wait to make this atch with the #5 contender, who shouldnt even have been #5.

I'm sorry but people are getting carried away with Sean's hype train. Close decision against Yan, and a nice lucky shot on Sterling aint something to be going crazy about. Merab Dvalishvili is going to walk through him. Seans worst nightmare right now.

Merab does no damage and doesn’t get finishes. He also can’t hold anyone down. Only so long you can go if all you have is unlimited takedowns. As good as that crutch is.

I really like ufc, but it just sucks having to watch it from 11pm to 6am. I really wish ufc was pushed back at least 3h when its in the US. It would get alot more EU people watching.

Same for me bro but you have to understand it's an american company and they need it to be prime time for both east and west coasts they cant just start the event at 8Pm uk time because that's 3PM in florida when everyone is still in work/school and 12pm for east coast which is in the middle of work times.
Their biggest market is the U.S especially west coast so having the ppv start at midnight in UK would be 4pm west coast which means alot of people still havent got out of work yet. So this is the only way
