- Voice Lessons - How To Strengthen Head Voice - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy.
I think it's important to define what Headvoice is.
My definition of Headvoice is not just "Anything that resonates in your head" (which is a common definition).
My definition of Headvoice is growing our falsetto register to sound and have the same qualities as our chest voice, so that when we cross the passaggio (our bridge from chest into headvoice) we can create one long, powerful note.
In this video, I demonstrate how to strengthen this amazing part of the voice to give us incredible range and ease for singing high notes. This lays a strong foundation for creating a great mix voice.
Great Singing To You!

Ha! 😊😊
Lael Destan nice
He has created my head voice ,chest voice and mix voice thanks lot sir now i can do them without any tension in my throat.. thanks, Sir a lot!!!
You're welcome, Musical !
Im still confused about mixed 😢 howd u do mixed?
How much did you practice? 😢
@@IversonGeo still can't find my mixed voice. How did you do that? There is always some kind of border between chest and head voice that makes most of songs impossible for me to sing, so I sing them octave lower even if my range is quite high. I practice half a year...
@@hefenzy half a year is a short time. But I think you should train your nasal resonators to get a good "mix" the pharyngeal sound connects chest with head as far as I understand.
My husband keeps smiling at me. I have headphones on listening to Ken and practicing his techniques. 😁😆
Jeanna Theis- That's sweet!

How can this man call himself a Baritone when he can hit those high notes
Volume doesn’t come by force but by resonance. That’s such an important point he made!
This info is gold. If you’re addicted to learning how to sing properly like I am, highly suggest getting the KTVA course. Don’t think its pricey bc the reality is, for the amount of info you get in the KTVA course Ken is practically giving it away.
Thanks for speaking out, RIchard! It really is worth much more that what is charged for the program. It literally will last a person for YEARS of improvements.
Best music teacher in the world
Thank you, chander!
Ive binged watch almost all your videos. I could never thank you enough for all the things you taught us for free.
Sir you didn't do the "Welcome to Ken Tamplin Voice Academy where the proof is in the singing" 😅 but still great 👍
Ha! Thanks for keeping me on my toes, abenlive!
I've been spending so much time finding head voice, because I was in disbelief on how easy it is. I am currently starting with a weak head voice, that is why I am here right now.
You can do it!
Head voice or "Anything that resonates in your head" is a completely new concept to me when it comes to music and singing, yet it sounded so powerful - "Where The PROOF Is In The Singing!" Just amazing tips and wonderful validation of the words used. Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy rocks!!!
Bishwabandita Guru - Always fun to learn something new, isn't it? 👍👍👍
Truly it is!
"Ping is King" - you made me smile, haha. I like your videos. This tutorial could help me achieve higher notes without damaging my vocal chords. Thanks, you're a Legend.
Ha, thanks, Keith! And you're welcome!
Everyone who want's to learn how to start to sing must hear this amazing voice. It's worth to listen.Great teacher
frosina milkovska- I appreciate that.
The way you explain the part of not singin loud but with resonance is very good, not Every teacher can do that explaining what they are doing your very clear!thanks
Thank you, SABINA! I'm glad that you find it helpful with your singing!
You are probably the best instructor out there for head voice. Very pratical, easy to follow, and effective, unlike a lot of other instructors who are vague and not very helpful
I appreciate that!
Tamplin is rock performer and vocal coach. Everyone can perform, head voice requires vocal exploration.
Where have I been spending all my time the past 30 years?? I wish I've seen this much earlier. Great lesson! I'll come back for more. 😘
Looking forward to your return, again and again, Madeline! 😊 Thanks for the kind words!
Honestly, I did not appreciate Ken's videos as I do now when I first started to learn how to sing.
I now realize that Ken's videos are for those that have gone through a decent amount of trial and error to have experiences and knowledge to understand his videos.
Ken, you may not know it because it may be a total norm for you. BUT what you teach and the examples you give are purely from your experience and a great understanding of your audience and students. Some of your videos may not be appealing to new singers as those videos may require viewers to have a fair share of experience before being able to fully grasp the reasoning and explanation you give but that's what separates you from the other teacher/coaches.
I really appreciate your effort and how you share your knowledge in a carefree manner.
I did not understand back then but now it makes sense to me, more than any others' videos I've watched.
P.S: This is not limited to this particular video of yours.
I often describe singing techniques like magic tricks.
Once you understand how they did it, you can start to imitate them.
This was another textbook demonstration of how great singers are able to sing like magic.
I can’t find anyone better at teaching how to unlock the code than Ken.
Thanks Papparratzi!
Incredible! Thank you!
KEN TAMPLIN gifted vocal beast thank you for your brilliance .28 earons from earon earth just like you NYC
It's incredible how much this has instantaneously helped me, straight away. Now that I have the basic technique, I can go so much further to improve my voice! Thanks heaps, Ken.
You're welcome, Greta!
Man that room acoustic !
HappyPurpleNoob- :)
Thank you kindly.
you,re all the best coach!!!
When I was in my school choir, when I was a sweet, innocent schoolboy and before I sold my soul to Santa (I think) and became a heavy metal singer, we used to warm up in a very similar way, with the phrase, "Barely sorry, oh,", which came out as "Beh-eh-ly-soh-re, oh", so we covered the octave.
Holyshit this method is working guys..i did the exercise for 2 weeks and i already feel a little improvement with my headvoice..but the most important thing is avoid a breathy tone and focus more on getting good cord closure..
That's great, Hollow Kurosaki!
I will surely do these exercices, it seems great ! Love your channel so much !
Great job Ken ..!
Here is another tutorial on How to Sing. This time, I'm giving you some information about how to use your head voice. Please comment below and let me know what kinds of help you want with singing information, and don't forget to share on your social media, and give it a Thumb's Up if you want me to keep providing free information like this! I want to know how to help you help yourself to be a better singer! :-)
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Do you have a video where you teach how to sing more fluently ? or a video on how to be in tune?
Jenny Gomez- Have you seen all my videos on techniques? Go to youtube, type in Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy and then the subject you're looking for. There are quite a few videos on a variety of techniques. Or, check out my vocal course: store.kentamplinvocalacademy.com/new-years-sale/
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Yes I subscribed and i've been looking at some of your videos, but everytime i practice how to sing my throat hurts the next day, my friend says its because i force the sound to come out; how can i fix that? and thanks for the links! (:
If your throat hurts, then you are oversinging. Don't use as much force in your breath.
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy Ok thanks, i'm not sure how to not do that, but im pretty sure you have a video on it.
I love music, never realised it has such engineering to it. Cool!
Thank you for your comment, Sonia!
Always a great session doing a vocal workout with Ken.
Thank you so much sir
It’s very easy to learn and won’t take too long to master it.
And it can sound so good!
The way you explain the part of not singing loud but with resonance is very good, not Every teacher can do that explaining what they are doing your very clear
To teach singing well, you should be able to sing as well as you promise people they will be able to sing after studying with you. If your teacher can't sing the songs you want to sing as well as the original singer, then you need a new teacher.
Thank you 😊
I am in love with this classes
:'
True thing I never heard a voice like Yours, simply amazing!
How I wish I had a music teacher like you during my formative years... I could have been a great singer today... but now I'm about to turn 30 this year I think it would be very very hard for me to train my voice.... I just love to watching your videos at home after work.. coz I strongly believe your tutorials would help me a lot along the way... thank you coach Ken Tamplin
It's only too late when you're dead. I have students in their 80s. What's stopping you? kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
Dude your voice is amazing! It's like 2 different people when you talk and sing. Great video bro - it helped a lot.
You explain so well I tried and that was not bad
Tnx a lot I learned easily from your teaching skills.
The goal: sing the one by high lander
The plan: watch as much ken tamplin as I can
Get busy!! Haha! Rock on, Frizzie!
Thank you Ken Tamplin I've been following your tips since 3 years ago, now I can sing very well and reach that high note. You are the best vocal coach in CZcams as far as I know.

Beautiful !!!! Beautiful voice and tones , love it !!!!
Sacred Geometry- Thanks!
I love that you're really walking through the this video's viewers to strengthen their Head Voice. Gonna try this sometime!
Give it a try, Mavelle!
Thank you for teaching professional singing lessons on your channel! I’m addicted....haha! Been singing for years and haven’t been able to get training like this! I’m a second alto and just recently found my head voice...it was that “fluty tuty” sound you describe, for years, so I totally avoided my upper register all together🙄. I’m getting your singing course now! Thank You Ken👍
This is nice thanks
I absolutely love all of your exercises Ken.👍🏼🤟🏼💪🏼
I appreciate that!
You're a great teacher Ken.. I've been doing your warm ups for almost a year now, and my voice is so much stronger! Thank you x
I was abandoning everything. Fortunately discovered this video. Your voice gave me an incredible inspiration. Practice Makes men (and women) Perfect!! Thank you!
Saravanajumar, make sure that what you practice is the right information or truly helpful exercises! Practicing incorrectly or on exercises that are not truly beneficial can actually embed bad habits or wear on your voice in bad ways. I like to say Perfect Practice makes Perfect. You are very welcome for the help and information! Thank you for letting me know it's helping you!
That's great,wonderful tones.
Nathan G - Thank you!
Nice tutilorial mr. Ken. I learned a lot in your videos. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 now i can sing well. 😊☺
This video is wonderful!!! I used to be a professional singer but haven't sung in years. I'm working on a song now, and I'm singing it SO much better after just going through this video. It's completely opened up my voice and given me back the range I didn't even know I had access to after all this time. Of course, I have a lot more work to do, but this is really encouraging. Thanks for sharing these tips!
You are the master Ken!
Ah, Grasshopper! Thank you!
Love the nickname, haha. Thx Ken!
Ken Templin you are the best vocal coach in the wholo world....
@kentamplin is a very knowledgeable teacher and I enjoy watching his tutorial videos, they are very informative.
I started doing that just for warm ups and found it made a really huge difference. I do it all the time before starting to sing. Our great dane doesn't like it , he starts to whine and howl lol, maybe he thinks I am in great pain. I found that it helps to relax the throat and it helps to hit the higher range, with voice control.I am defiantly going to try the way you showed here. Cheers!
Awesome! Thanks, Music4Hire!
Music4Hire - Who's the great dane?
Dog ears can't handle high pitched noises. Dog whistles are so high that the human ear can't register the sound, but it hurts dog ears.
Hi Ken. I love all ur videos its really help thanks for the wonderful vocals lessons...
That's great to hear, Luzii, Luis th!
I'm so good at this -those guitar strums that is
Useful tips, the best demonstration I've seen in a long time.
Supr ema- Thank you! I appreciate that!
I heard your voice for the first time and the way you are giving tips and instructing is very nice. Singing in different voices about the same word is very hard/difficult. But you are amazing singer. I just say that "Anyone who wants to be a good singer just go here with Ken Tamplin".
Pragnesh Jaiswal - Thank you! 😳
I wish there were more of these videos, they're so honest and full of informations, besides, you make it look like it's very easy and everybody can achieve good results! Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your competence, it helps a lot!
CheeRobbie- Thank you! I have more than 300 videos on youtube, please use them!
Solid lesson! Thank you so much.
You're welcome, Andrew!

Ken, these really help. The reward is gradually satisfying. The "ah" is the toughest. Thanks. Bob
That is great to hear, Bob!
I really appreciate people like you who can teach smoothly how to have a voice exercise. I have watched many tuts but i love this tutorial of yours. Keep it up.

You're welcome, Atrophysicist!
I really love when you said that not everything should be loud. Honestly, I am not fond of loud singing. I am more on the relaxing music and sound. Thank you for sharing your tips on how to strengthen head voice. You're a talented singer and thank you for sharing your talent :)
cristine letada- Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate them! I'm glad the tips resonate with you. That's my goal!
This is very helpful! I always dream of singing on stage one day but my voice is not that good to hear. But after watching this video I learned a lot from it. Thank you for sharing your tips!
S. VA, learning to sing is learning all of the many things that combine to help you to get better. You learn one step at a time. After a while, you have learned many steps and they all come together to help you sing songs.
Fantastic Ken , you are the one, I learned so much from you, THANK YOU very much❤
You are very welcome!
Kentemplin is the best .............it really helps out.............i have improved a lot
I have been searching for youtube videos to on voice lessons and am glad I found your videos. You are heavenly sent since this is exactly what I needed for my voice. I have always loved to sing but needed guide with my voice. Through your videos you are able to inspire us who are passionate about singing but lack how to go about it. Kindly help out what one is required to do if the voice keep hurting when trying to hit the high notes.
michael, it may be that you need to develop your chest voice more. Be very gentle with this, and don't rush to get higher. Take your time. Watch this video: czcams.com/video/P9J3iEn4Gqc/video.html
Every time i had tried to sing but when i listen to it my voice is so crack so i laugh on my self but after this video i am trying to learn in your style thanks for making a video thanks a lot.
pratik bhardwaj - Awesome! I am happy to hear that!
Very Good Tips , you may feel when some one sing wrongly but can`t find what`s wrong like you demonstrated
Thank you love your teaching i was with you 8 years ago if you remember i appriciate your teaching i learn aor a kots welcome back nice to see you back thank you amen
An awesome video would be an acoustic guitar lesson on exercises and warm up techniques!
Yes, that might be a good one, Dale! Thanks!
Ken, if you get the chance, would you be kind enough to please do a video teaching scales on the guitar and how to play them within chords? With your skill and teaching ability it would mean the world to a guitar player like me who never took lessons . I am great on chords but don't know what scales can be played within those chords. For years I have been copying songs from tabs, never really knowing what notes I am playing within chords. You have such a plethora of knowledge on singing and guitar playing that your guitar lesson would be truly be a gift to anyone lucky enough to see it. Thanks for all your great videos.
This is just the video I was looking for, thanks for the video Ken :)
Glad it helps you, Will!
Marvelous class!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Glad you liked it!
Dude, I wasn't able to start until 2:45. And that's really helpful what you said about volume not being the ultimate key (not straining)
I'm glad it helped, Jason!
I strengthen my voice in the gym baby. Mainly while doing compound movements and HITT cardio but on occasion I also incorporate it on isolation movements. 💪💪💪
No I don't, nor do I sing. Thank you for the info Ken. 😁
Btw the diaphragmatic exercises are working wonders. The sound of my speaking voice has been less monotonous and clearer. Blowing my nose with the power of the abs is also a very weird but helpful for getting cleared up, lol.
And I'm almost stable at C2#, so it's getting there.
Thanks again! 😁
You're welcome for the info, ultra!
Love, love, LOVE your videos, Ken!! You have an incredible vocal instrument, and your teaching is superb. Thank you and God Bless YOU!!
Amen to that!
