  • A local housing professional talks about issues around continued depopulation and ageing population experienced on the island and the island’s reliance on seasonal economy. The lack of suitable and affordable housing and more permanent forms of work / economy are factors for young people leaving the island. Similar problems are believed to be shared by other island communities.
The 12 short films on lived experiences across 12 locations were first made in 2020 as part the Housing to 2040 travelling exhibition. At each location and in each film a different aspect on housing and place was discussed in order to present the multifaceted aspects of housing, people’s lived experiences. The conversation in the films shows the interviewees reflecting on their passion and aspiration for their own community as well as highlighting some of the issues and challenges that are local to the place, and others that are shared across geography.
