@@chrisbaybay7326 Especially action movies are by definition artistic, not realistic. The realistic movies are documentaries, for example.
Side note, I love the color pallet of this scene. The deep blue-green of the trees, the red-brown of the brush, and the grey-white of the snow and sky all go really well together.
One thing that I love about Filmriot are... Freebies, lots and lots of freebies and awesome filmmaking advices. Keep up guys!

Sweet, I'm excited to watch the rest. I know people are not going to be kicking the crap out of each other for a scene, but It felt blended enough to me that I couldn't tell real from fake...
At first I was like: "Hey that looks like NerdzRL/Cassandra",
Then I thought that it was just someone that looks like her, but then Ryan says "Cassandra and Katie".

DJI later released the PRO version of the Osmo which includes a high capacity battery (4K shoot times upto 94 mins.), an SSD storage, a Zenmuse X5R Camera AND (More importantly) a DJI focus wheel attached with it.
FilmRiot, you are always worth the wait.
Ryan is cool and I love his narrative skills, very detailed and informative . I would love to shoot a scene like this sometimes, please slow down a bit Ryan when you are explaining the masking and other stuff so we do not have to rewind so many times to pick it up :D Excellent work you and your team

I have to agree that the Osmo is freaking great. The guy I freelance with bought one back in March and it definitely has improved our production value.
I thought the story was really cool, and I could see it being a full feature film.
Just in time for my final exam from film class! :)
A think that the digital pan as katie fell was a very interesting choice, I feel like there would be less motion blur if you had actually panned with her (although I know thats not really possible ) , it seems a little bit unrealistic and digital soully from the motion blur, despite her actually performing the fall. The locked down shot looked much more realistic to me, maybe just adding some camera shake and leaving it locked down would have worked, but thats just me. It probably would have slowed down the pacing though. Great scene though really enjoyed it ryan!
+Elliot Ruddy Yeah, I agree on the motion blur. In the chaos of the day I forgot to raise the shutter speed so that we could properly emulate that. It bums me out for sure.

Hey, one thing I noticed that was a little bit weird with the falling scene is that when she falls you track her with the camera so there wouldn't be that much motion blur. You end up following her with the camera and theres still a lot of motion blur. That just makes it look kind of weird

I feel like there's too much motion blur when she falls
When you look for it yeah but when you watched It did you notice
I agree with the second comment, when I first saw the video didn't even notice, but after going through the break down, I see it more, but you can obviously do a few things different but at the end of the day it is still fake. And audience should understand that. One thing I like and dislike depending on the context is when people nitpick film mistakes. Like the bagel from pretty women or shit like that.

THAT'S Why that effect looked off. I thought the whole fall was an effect because the motion blur of her body wasn't consistent with the camera movement (since it follows her, she would be sharper, but you've added that motion after the fact). One way around that might be shooting that footage at a high shutter speed, then adding back in your motion blur at the end using something like RSMB.

Thank you for being transparent about the DJI stuff, i have come to trust you guys when you talk about products and if you tried to hide the fact DJI gave you the hook up, i don't think you would be as credible IMO.
This would be way easier if I knew how to get the editing software
