It's time for Israel's Mizrahis to recognize things for what they really are and deconstruct Israel's "Jewish" identity for what it really is; a purely Ashkenazi construct that was tailored to Ashkenazi history, culture, and values, by which Mizrakhi and (to a lesser extent) Sephardic jews are seen as second-class jews at best.
As a very well educated Palestinian friend of mine once said: "They (the Ashkenazis) stole our land, our homes, our food, our culture, but that wasn't enough; they also had to steal our own jewish-Arab brethren, whom they turned into their servants".

I'm a Muslim Syrian from tartus and I came across a nice Mizrahi lady in her 50s or 60s. Her ancestry was from alleppo. We were more in common than the Ashkenazi. We communicated in Arabic and I found her more like an Arab of Jewish faith than just “a jew”.

It is interesting that we know that many Israelites went into Iraq and neighboring regions historically. So it is very possible that many would have more ancient Israelite dna the many Ashkenazi. It seems like the system is set up to discriminate against those with a stronger connection to the ancient Hebrews.

@@Amal-ku9xq Well, this law strictly recognizes the Jewish national identity of the state of Israel (that is already practically the case), that does not mean people of other nationalities do not live in that state, or that they don’t have the citizenship status with all the same rights as everybody else. Iraq is an Arab republic, does that mean Kurds and Assyrians don’t live there? Iran is a Persian state, does that mean Azeris or Armenians don’t live there?

Israel never established a constitution in liue of a constitutio. Israel has been establishing over the years what its called foundational laws that have more power than regular ones. The nation state law is one of them. Israel was established by the U.N as a country for the Jews (but not a Jewish staye). In the declaration of i dependence it is stated that the country will be a home for yhe Jews but individual rights of people with whatever religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation etc must be respected. Because of inter Israeli issues between secular and religous the declaration of independence was never turned into a constitution. the nation state law does not refer to individual rights of people, it is about collective rights. It basically comes to say only Jews have collective rights in Israel. What it means in effect is that Palestinians in Israel cannot be recognized as a collective and in effect create a state within a state. The nation state law was a preemptive response to the peace process and Palestinians in the west bank refusing yo recognize Israel as a Jewish state because of the Palestinian minority inside Israel.
