This is by far my favorite video that you've made. Just looking at the details, it shows that you may have filmed these interviews through multiple days and waited until you had a good variety of people before putting it all together. So thankful for the effort you put in making this. I just want to add too, most of these people you interviewed could be actors and actresses. Love them all and their honesty.

As someone who is planning on living in Seoul as a student, this was very informative. I currently have a career in IT and would definitely look into getting a job if I end up liking it in Seoul. Thanks for the great video!
Salary standards in South Korea and Japan are quite low as compared to the ones in the US, but they're much safer

@@user-hs1dd4tc7t If we work as a dishwasher at an East Asian restaurant in Massachusetts, you will save around $2,000 net per month because food and accommodation are provided by the employer. We will never be able to save that amount of money if we do it in South Korea or Japan

@@containedhurricane um you'll also have to pay much more to live because rent is so much, transportation because you need a car, and everything else... It's pretty much pointless. At least in Korea you can use public transport very easily, rent is cheaper for a single person in a one room apartment. In the states you can't even afford an any place on your own. Who wants to work as a dish washer and share a 2 room apartment with 4 people?
@@briankim2903 Many poor Asians share one bedroom with several people because it's provided freely as long as they work at the restaurants. Transportation to the restaurants are also provided by the employers, so the workers can save more than $2,000 per month

It sounds low because the USD is strong right now. Ya’ll have to remember that the cost of living is MUCH lower in Seoul that NY/LA. The salary isn’t high by any means, but it’s not that bad
I was earning 130k in Utah. Cost of living there is far lower than Seoul

Don't flaunt your big $$$ because you live in a country that has been prosperous for a long time and you have remote opportunities. I don't understand you "point" in your statement. The United States is MUCH LARGER with MUCH MORE OPPORTUNITIES still than South Korea. AND unfortunately, having more $$$ and earning more does not equate to how happy you are or how you feel about where you live. With all the SH*T that is going on in AMerica right now, I would debate whether South Korea really is one of the unhappiest places to live and whether AMERICA should be on the top of that list.

That seems so low, compared to cost of living. You have to save up to put 50% downmpayment ($250K) to get an apartment in Seoul, plus other costs like groceries. Plus, everyone is aiming for the same limited number of slots in specific schools and specific chaebol companies. Entrepreneurship seems limited to mom-and-pop or few start-ups, not enough medium sized firms. Can understand why many Koreans go to US to increase salary or to SE Asia, with lower cost (but comparable standard) of living.
thats there problem they all wanna work in the same district in Seoul. If some of them would have gone work in cities close to seoul or even other big cities it wouldnt be such a big problem. Cities like Suwon cost way less than Seoul yet its a 1 hour drive. Thats one of the major problem south korea did. It was having one megalopolis that run almost everything in the country

i work in IT as a software engineer at a large/huge Korean company...in general it pays well overall but not as well as the top tech companies in the US although there are always exceptions.

Bro comparing american companies to any other countries wage is unfair man. I live in Germany and the ppl who can make more tend to go to America to earn more. America is the richest country in the world and they're the country that mostly decides how the world economy will go.
while true, I was working in the USA and was recruited by a company in Korean to move to Korea. in my case, I would not have left the USA to come here unless it was for a better opportunity with higher pay, etc. i'm not necessarily saying that Korean company need to pay the same as US companies but if they want to attract global talent (which many want to do), they will need to pay as much if not more than US companies in order to compete.

Accurate. Young people with 1 to 3 years of experience earn approximately 2.2 to 3 million won, and those in their 30s (after moving up in rank) earn anywhere from 3 to 5 million won. Large companies are higher. This is the average salary excluding taxes. I am an ordinary Korean

If salaries are between 30k-40k for young people and between 40k-70k for older people, how come i see a lot of of young people wearing luxury bags and other items that can cost easily 5k-20k each? Even at 70k per year i wouldn´t consider buying myself a luxury bag if that was my case.
koreans are crazy about expensive fashion items, they save up a lot to buy luxury items and cut spending for food etc.
Lower income tax rates compared to most Western countries. Plus most young people in Korea these days are not getting married and will have no children. Plus many young Koreans still live with their parents because they've given up on buying new homes due to the high cost of homes in Seoul (the rest of the country is dirt cheap in comparison). So they have less expenses to worry about. These factors all add up to young people having more disposable income for trips abroad (50% of Koreans have traveled abroad to Japan or SEA, in only one year), as well as disposable income for luxury goods and cars. If they can't buy a home, they'll just spend the money on trips, luxury purses, cosmetic procedures, and cars.
I think what catches your attention is not as widespread as you are made to believe from what you are seeing. Same with plastic surgery. It's only your perception.
1. If they're unmarried, Koreans are most likely living with their parents so even a $20K-$30K salary would give them some disposable income
2. The unhealthier reason is that Koreans are very sensitive to how they're perceived by others in public, so even a coffee shop barista girl feels pressure to wear brands because so many people her age is doing the same. So luxury stores even let these people buy handbags etc. on monthly installment plans, almost as if they bought a car
Conclusion: you can't assume a typical Korean's social class by what they wear
consumer debt is quite high in SK, people like looking so good and status is another thing

i was just in South Korea for two weeks... the young people in the country are in a sad state. Overworked and underpaid and trying to keep up with the Joneses in Seoul, I talked to some people who literally spend more than 100% of their earnings just on rent, food and luxury items.
as an office job worker, office can be tiring job, because it’s repetitive, boring etc. but still, of all my jobs, this is the best job so far, in terms of work conditions and earnings.

Not too much. in Seoul, to ball you need to earn 500k usd per year.
That number can provide quite a comfortable lifestyle. But not a luxurious lifestyle, though. It really depends on where you live, too. If you go suburban area, 6 figure income can give you a pretty comfortable lifestyle with quite a nice house and everything. Just like the USA. It all depends on which city and which town you live in.

It's not cheap to live in Korea. Do not believe the lies CZcamsrs and influencers speard. If you want to live in a box, mold, and bug infested place, sure, go for it and hope you don't end up in the emergency room drowning with medical expenses. Plus, no one talks about health problems caused by air pollution and poor housing conditions. You better have cash to pay for the medical visit and medication.
