mbti can be so much fun but i feel like they really kinda went overboard with it in korea.. and the worst part is that they mainly rely on the 16personalities test (which is why majority of people and k-idols for example are heavily mistyped😭) and not based on cognitive functions analysis and theory.
like thinking your mbti type changes and how enjoying your alone time = introvert.. when in reality the “i” just stands for the first function being introverted! so for example isfp are generally even more social than entp even though they are an “i” type, because in the actual mbti theory it simply does not stand for the same kind of extrovert/introvert meaning that people correlate it with by the 16personalities test standards 🤷♀️

You see most of the reactions here do not actually research MBTI with much depth. Because the I for introverted and the E for extraverted do not mean the person is actually introverted or extraverted.
Also shy is something someone usually has when they dont have confidence but once you get confidence then you are a totally different person in other peoples eyes.
The MBTI is based on the work of Carl Jung, who invented the terms introvert and extrovert. I don’t get why the original definitions of these terms have been misinterpreted .

I'm moving to Korea this May, I can not express how informative you're channel is to me. Thank you for being so brave, asking random people these questions. I've been able to somewhat understand how I could be viewed in this society. I really want to be comfortable there and for people to treat me like they would want to be treated hopefully I can find a mate too lolz
As someone who works in mental health, I find these answers quite interesting. People have different views of how accurate the MBTI test is. But a majority of them are not aware of the fact that most of the personality tests you see online are watered down versions of the Jungian type test. In fact, the MBTI test was inspired by the original personality type test (created by Carl Jung in 1921), which has far more types than just 16 simple ones. One woman in the video mentioned that it's not easy to categorise people's personalities, but they can put into broad categories that give you a general idea of an individual's personality. I really liked that answer. Humans are way too complex to be categorised into specific personalities, and the MBTI test is, imo, too generic and unreliable to define your personality with. And then you've got external stimuli that heavily influence your answers if you were to do the test in an uncontrolled setting.
With the popularity of the MBTI test, I hope there's more awareness on the fact that we can't rely on personality types to build connections and socialise well. It takes more than a test and a category to create a long-lasting bond. :)

As an INFJ I can truly say the MBTI is accurate. What is INaccurate, however, is people’s interpretation of it. Everyone possesses characteristics of every type. Everyone is more extroverted at times, and more introverted at other times. Instead of saying “I am this abcd type,” it would be more accurate to say, “My primary type is INFJ, my secondary type is INTJ,” etc.
……psych Ψ here…. Obviously the two American women,…Myers-Briggs created something that can be useful in combination to many other factors. So many people lack personal insight so this can be helpful for those people. But anyhow Let’s not discount the American WOMEN who created it…
When I am doing psychological evaluations there is always variations/ levels of symptoms to everything from whether it is personality to a clinical diagnosis… , there are definitely life factors that have reinforce traits or exposed a person to events; and even genetics and developmental history, support systems can affect a personality…all of it it’s important. that’s the nature of psychology. So definitely people have to understand that MBTI is just a small piece but it does provide personal insight and reflection.
@@arisu707people take it out of context, MBTI has its place… that is why we study it in grad school. A psychological evaluation looks at various factors from development to personality. It is nice that something such as MBTI is available for people to be given some insights;…there should always be a disclaimer. But most employers have some time of personality test. Some type of screening is okay…variation will always occur and nothing is stagnant…
so basically we like judging people. Koreans feel safe only when they can categorize themselves and others within specific boundaries. Before the MBTI test, we believed that personality types could be determined by blood type.

@@user-cnksi223 I get the point they are trying to make... it's not just as if Koreans are the only ones "obsessed" with categorizing people... perhaps they have less ways to categorize due to a more homogenous population, so they seem to outwardly obsess more over things people from different areas of the world find more trivial. here in the US there are plenty of people who "obsess" over categorizing people over many other things... race is one lol. or from what state they are in... or what subculture/clique you are in, blah blah. it's just a human thing to categorize I suppose. I still remember after returning from Korea to the US and it's like every god damn form asks you what ethnicity you are even when it really doesn't matter at all... I was like "ummmm... okay US? why does this matter?" LOL

To each their own but this gives what tip to really knowing the personality of someone. Old school.... sit and talk to them.
I find that all societies feel the need to categorize and judge people with some system or another.
This is all just me theorizing, but I think it's probably just a mental phenomena similar to the way that we instinctively categorize and group information in order to better retain it. It's also association. I find that this type of behavior in humans is going to take place one way or another. If you encounter someone that you hate and they are wearing a specific article of clothing, I think you may have a negative first impression of anybody wearing that same piece from then on. It's not a conscious thing, just the brain trying to categorize information and figure out what leads to what.
Koreans really tend to have this on a much more visible level than other cultures though... It can be a good or bad thing. On the one hand, Koreans are a lot more straightforward in my experience. if they don't like you, you know. That's a lot of pressure on certain people, but it's also more transparent. I grew up in the USA, and here people will smile and act like your best friend, then talk behind your back with the same mouth. I think I know just a small handful of people here who don't have very bad trust issues. In a way, I can appreciate a society where they are more honest about this stuff. In the US, we tend to judge people a lot based on physical appearances, attire, hairstyles, demeanor, and even speech style. I hate to say it, but living down south, there are SO many people who will look at a Hispanic individual and assume they are an illegal immigrant, or look at a black person and assume they're a criminal. It's pretty disgusting. Everything is grounds for somebody to judge "what kind of person you are" in the first minute of talking to them, or even before you talk to them in the first place. It's just a far more silent judgement than Korea.
To be honest, most men aren't genuinely interested in MBTI. I'm just feigning interest for my girlfriend's sake. The majority of Koreans view it as a fun activity, with few people being truly 'obsessed' with it. It's simply a trend. Constellations, blood types, palmistry, fortune telling, MBTI... these trends keep evolving.
Back in the day it was zodiac sign compatibility. Now it’s MBTI. Tomorrow it t might be the shape of the little toe…. At the end of the day, get to know the person in order to gauge compatibility.
The journalist gave me the impression she was having more fun during this interview than she will have had during her blind date lol. She seemed a bit skeptical about the character of her date because of their Myers Briggs - before even spending time with them.

It must have spread because it felt plausible. In fact, it was used as a tool for understanding rather than evaluating oneself and others.
It was popular just for fun, but it could also be said to be an attempt to solve the various difficulties experienced in relationships between people from the perspective of personality.
Sometimes it can be an opportunity to try to understand others better, and sometimes it can be a starting point for positive change while reflecting on oneself.
If you can change yourself, you are mentally healthy. The problem is that such personality analyzes reinforce mental fixations.
I prefer people using this to prejudge people vs using astrology or blood types. But regardless you wont really know if you will like someone unless you give them a chance and meet them so unless there is a certain personality that you just dislike itll just give you something to talk about or give you insight on how a person processes information
Ugh..get your natal chart done. This is a HUGE problem is that people think astrology is ONLY sun signs.
I took the MBTI test in a company training session and I actually think it is quite helpful when it comes to how to communicate with co-workers more effectively.

Unlike astrology (which life stage during the school year better explains any traits) and blood type (which has no bearing on personality at all), MBTI does have measured correlation with the Big-5 and HEXACO personality traits used in actual psychology:
E-I ≈ Extraversion

J-P ≈ Conscientiousness
-A, -T ≈ Neuroticism

Ive taken it so many times over the years, and I get different versions almost every time. Sometimes I'm more introverted, or more extroverted. I do think the 2nd segment S or N is probably the only one that doesn't change much with time
That’s because just like any of those “which cartoon character are you” tests, you will answer certain questions differently based in your current mood. There’s no psychology behind it at all.
You might be an ambivert or omnivert. If the E and the I fluctuate. Sounds like the other parts are consistent. I'm in the same situation, mine fluctuates. While others swear by this test because it describes them perfectly, I found other tests that better described my personality, values and interests.
@@Totaly14 "psychology" is purely empirical. If Person a checks box 3 and 4, they have ptsd. Simply the amount of questions makes the diagnosis more accurate. There cant be anymore psychology behind it, since it is already practiced psychology. Enough yapping, I'm just saying that this thing is nothing more than an online therapist
Well when i took it i got an answer did research found others that were close to it (ones where people of that type could be). Did more research on the specific ones and figured out which one i really was with thought processes. Also how one goes about life with that mbti type is a huge indicator of which one it is. Because as we develop as an INTP i have developed my introverted thinking very young age, and extraverted intuition and introverted sensing took longer but with time even my extraverted feeling has gotten stronger and as such i could easily show up as more of a feeling type now.

I suppose the test makes more sense for people who are the same a lot of the time, but I never saw the point of the test cuz usually I change it up depending on many variables day to day. If people ask I just say WLDCRD.

I did this years ago. I agree with the woman about giving a general idea. Not everyone fits neatly into boxes.
I am INTJ but I remember being a strong P as well (works well with N (intuition)). I like to observe and look for motivations … They indicate true agendas.
I like the personality test but totally agree with the guy that had dread locks. It changes on the person yearly in my opinion. I took the test maybe 5yrs ago and i got a different one this yr after seeing how famous it was for korea so i retested. So idk, its kinda iffy but still good in a way to see what people might be like

I just think that knowing your mbti before seeing you is just a way of having more control over the situation and your short-term future when it comes to relationships. Low tolerance to uncertainty or maybe fear of being lied to.
Yes, I had taken it at work, and then had my employees take it. It’s a good tool to help to know the personalities you work with.

I found it true since i like watching kdrama and search the actors/actress, almost all the interview or varshow talk about their mbti. I really don't think how could we judging someone only from the machine or test result human made. Actually, what I found for see and knowing some people around me is people are unique and the best way to know people well is not from mbti, but when you approaching them by deep talking, and sure it's not only for one day to knowing people

I really like mbti in private because on personality database you can see the mbti of different characters from movies and games and its fun to see who has the same type as me. But I have never mentioned it in public.
I've taken the test several times now over the years and I always get typed the same. But I've read about my type and I think it reflects me to some extent. Because no two people are the exact same even if they share an MBTI.
Same here. It's relatable up to some point, but not all of it. It's a self-assesment afterall, sometimes who we think we are, isn't the real us, so our answer will never be accurate. That's what I think. It's more of perception on how we think about ourselves, not exactly our true personality.

I think the first time I did mbti test (known as Test of 16 personality at that time) it was 5 or 6 years ago , probably before it became popular in Korea 👀 but after all this time I finally understood what the letters of my INTP personality means 🫶🏻 thank you 😂🫧

It is so strange that someone takes an inventory,, answering 165 questions about themselves, only to be amazed that the final result reflects them to some degree. I can give you a good description of your personality if I could ask you 165 questions first.

Believe it or not we actually do this a lot in America, people are very easily divided into their subculture such as white, black, latino etc. and their political affiliation. I don't think this phenomenon is unique to Korea, just their way of implementing the sorting of people into different classifications.

Most people don’t realize that everyone possesses characteristics of every type. Everyone has the tendency to be more extroverted under specific circumstances, and more introverted in other circumstances; more N sometimes and more S other times.
(N means iNtuitive, btw; has nothing to do with “living in your imagination,” as one of the women said. I mean, ffs, if you’re going to talk about something, at least make sure your info is accurate!)
Instead of saying, “I am INFJ,” it would be more accurate to say, “My primary personality traits align with INFJ; my secondary characteristics align with INTJ,” etc. One could also say, for example, “I am more of an ENFP when I am with close friends, and more INTJ when I’m with acquaintances or colleagues.”
We all put on a different personality at different times depending on the situation, depending on our mental health, etc. The only people who are 100% the same and unchanged their entire lives are psychopaths.
At any rate, this video only shows how widely misrepresented and misinterpreted the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators are; and how widely misinformed people are to think that this is a sound method for evaluating the potential for social connections.

Of course if you answer depending on your mood, your type will be different. These kind of tests are not done by MOOD! But by what it is closer to you at the core of your psyche. Plus, if you answer one way now and then next month or two you give different answers, you will get different types. It's a common logic it shouldnt be done like this 😑. The cognitive functions are like the foundation of a house. The test doesn't describe all of you - which is kind of like the look and the rest of the house, how it looks inside and outside. It is valid, but it is not the whole picture of you.
I like how MBTI became popular in Korea because I like guessing people's MBTIs.

i once did such a test online and at the end it says which celebrities have the same results. which alrdy shows how stupid such tests are, cuz i struggle to interact with other people. so how can i have the same results as someone who is good in interacting with others.
Speaking of easy categorization in neat little boxes and Koreans blindly following trends as it relates to Kpop...
I wouldn't be surprised if part of vocally talented Purple Kiss lack of success has at least something to do with their constantly changing musical style every comeback making them hard to categorize despite having a definite sound that transcends genres (plus RBW is rubbish at promoting their groups, plus one of their talented vocalists gets criticized for not falling into the accepted measurements of some stupid idealized body type for idols).
If Tsuki didn't have a GGMGY fancam go viral and subsequently charm people with numerous variety show appearances, the equally musically diverse Billlie probably would be far more obscure also, not that they've had any real success on Korean charts, which aside from standard ballads by soloists are dominated at the top largely by the same 6 girl groups from 4th gen that are too big to fail thanks to big 3 status or inclusion of former IZ*ONE members (plus 여자 아이들), regardless of whether a particular new song is any good or not. An essentially copy paste song of one of those groups' style led to a 5th gen big 3 gg having a massive hit on their debut beyond all reason sweeping up music show trophies despite having issues in the vocal department (it might have helped if YG songwriters could produce a banger title trk without Teddy, BM have crazy talent but their best song was an English b-side written by Charlie Puth -- they only made top 10 after a few weeks with Sheesh). Imagine my surprise when 5th gen award show stages live vocals queens KIOF Midas Touch made the top 25 from a small company, though it should've been bigger...like a lot of great songs the past couple years.

You can't be 2 types. 🙄 ENFP and INFP is not the same but similar. You can't have them together. The dominant fuction is not the same. I also agree that MBTI test is biased and not always accurate. Not everyone is exactly the same. Same with zodiac, shio, blood type. 🤦 Just bcs you are ENFP, it's not necessarily means you will not be shy. Dating based on MBTI is stupid.
