Jeff Buckley, a prodigiously talented guitarist and songwriter, drowned accidentally in 1997 at the age of 30.
Actor Brad Pitt, fellow musicians (Jimmy Page, Chrissie Hynde, Elizabeth Fraser, Patti Smith, among others) and Buckley's mother are among those contributing to this portrait of a cult performer who, with his 1994 album Grace, emerged as one of the most acclaimed, eclectic and original rock artists of recent times.

Wait, Isn't It The 25th Anniversary Of Jeff's Passing.... Thanks For Sharing These Videos With Us.
Oh Wait! This Video Was Produced, "ON" The 5th Anniversary Of Jeff's Passing?? Sorry, My Bad....😬
@@mysoulsinsound9538 The 25th Anniversary of Jeff’s passing was on May 29th. This documentary was actually released two days after the 5th Anniversary of said event (May 31st).

I love singing jeffs songs.
I went to high school with him. He was singing in the back of the bus and all of the kids went silent and Jeff got off the bus and we all watched him go. We were all stunned. He walked off like a god. We all knew we had heard something extraordinary. And what was the song? Sugar Sugar by The Archies. He made it sound like heaven
What a special memory
That’s beautiful, thanks for sharing
That's amazing! A private Jeff Buckley concert on a school bus 🚌
I can sort of imagine him breaking into a grand "... you are my candy, girrrrlll!"
Lol
What a memory, jesus!
WOW!
“Brad Pitt… fan.” still gets me.
I always get Brad Pitt and Heath Ledger's respective fan boy statuses mixed up.
Brad Pitt - - - > Jeff Buckley
Heath Ledger - - - > Nick Drake
Me personally I like them both. Also, I like them both, again-only this time I mean the actors. But the height of artistic expression at last, culminated the very instant Brad put that shirt on for the first time..

His unfinished material should have never been released. He was a die hard perfectionist, it wasn't anyone's right to put it out in the world.
I kind of agree
The vultures need their cash.
the 1st disc is awesome
Sketches is some of my favorite works, if Jeff was here now, I think he would be happy people can love and appreciate his art even the art he couldn’t finish. His love is still in the music.
@@azotro Cute but not likely given Buckley wanted to completely redo 'My sweetheart'. Good artists are good for a reason, they have a vision, that vision takes work and multiple reiterations. It's their call when it's done, not an outside party.
I think the BBC producers who put this together did an extraordinary job on this piece.
@leth2753 Agreed. Especially with their use of Comic Sans.
@@MojoPin1983I didn't even given it attention but now I can't unsee it :/
I saw Jeff Buckley on 22nd June 1985 in the UK at the Junction, Cambridge. This was a warm up show ahead of his Glastonbury appearance. I remember how mesmerising he was as a person and as a musician. There was men and women openly crying as he played, never experienced that ever again in a gig. I am so lucky to have see him, iconic.
@paulsartain5152 *1995*
Glasto 1995, was the 25th anniversary year, the only time I've been to the festival,, and ever will. It was in my opinion, the greatest line-up of Glasto, period, and not least because Jeff Buckley played. Great memories.
“I don’t really need to be remembered. I hope the music’s remembered.”
You will forever live through your music. We are grateful for you, Jeff.
32:55 That crossfade from “Mojo Pin” to “Corpus Christi Carol” is genius…
A tear falls from my eye and just stopped midway down my cheek as if to say smile, you have the music, it's a part of your soul forever and beyond. What an incredible legacy.
Thanks for posting this. As someone who knew Jeff a little bit in his nyc days, and saw him live locally every chance I got, his death was so painful and impactful, I couldn''t listen to his music for decades, nor watch docs like this. This one was so well done, it was a healing experience. I wish I could have seen it long ago.
I know that special sharp agony of losing a music friend, a creative cohort. Just wanted to tell you that and I’m so glad you’ve recently seen a little blue sky. It took me 20 years.
Wow-from UK
I had a similar experience and was crushed when he died.
I thought Jeff was the great hope for music when I heard 'Grace' in 1994. He stunned me. His death was a crushing blow. I still haven't forgotten the shock of reading the first report in the UK press. Thank you for uploading this superb documentary.

Will never forgot standing in front row, right in front of him as he performed at Queen's Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland in 95, with no barrier. The one gig I went to with my first girlfriend. Drugstore were great in support. Jeffrey was otherworldly.
my mother introduced me to jeff buckley when i was 13 and i've spent every second since loving him, like everyone. moved to edinburgh nine months ago to pursue my own dreams. reading this comment 15 minutes down the road from queen's hall and it's taking everything in me to not race out the front door and just stand at the gate, like he'll be there now.
Even after 30 years, his performances still amaze me.
It’s like watching Hendrix play guitar, a magical moment of an artist.
Grace is the only album I precisely remember where I was, what I was doing and who I was with the first time I heard it. I totally relate with what Brad Pitt's telling in this great documentary. I was with a bunch of friends for a dinner party, we were talking and joking around as usual. Suddenly I hear the intro of Mojo Pin flying in the air, I freezed out, asked my friend what is this music and ran in a quiet room to listen to the whole record alone. I was speechless for the rest of the evening and it changed me forever. I was lucky enough to see him live in Paris twice, and when he died, I cried like I lost a brother; Maybe the songs he never had time to compose are here somewhere, waiting to be made...
I miss him deeply. Whenever you were with him there was only now: no when.
So sad. His Grace album is superb. My heart goes out to his mom. band and those that knew him as friend. Us fans too,
I was only one year old when Jeff passed away. I remember hearing Hallelujah on the radio growing up, and his voice always gave me goosebumps. I can't believe it's taken me until now, at the age of twenty-seven, to look into the rest of his music. I'm glad I did, however, because it feels like it has changed my life somehow.
Jeff's music is such an influence in my life and his passing is something that still haunts me over a quarter of centrury!! RIP beautiful man!!!!
I saw him in concert in Belgium in the mid-Nineties and I remember being nailed to the ground and shaking my head thinking: do all these people realize how incredible this is?
@patricklaureys9238 Where did you see him? Pacific Club? Rock Torhourt/Werchter? I have footage of both those events on my channel.
Torhout. He was wearing his usual white t-shirt. ☺@@MojoPin1983
One of the greats. Players like that only come around so often, there’s only a few of them every 20 years or so.
🎸🎸🎸❤️❤️❤️
I like how he messed with his dad’s second wife and friends by posing like him on the album cover😂
He didn't do it to upset her, it might have been an unconsious thing on his part to replicate the album cover.
@@DeepScreenAnalysisMaybe we'll never know
The same people who didn’t even recognise him as his son - yeah they deserve to be messed with
Listening to the drummer reminiscing, I as a drummer and fan have to say that his music is the most passionate, real, painful, riveting and with such a feel and spontaneity that has never been recorded and then under rated... I live for moments with musicians like that, it is otherworldly and some of the greatest no bullshit music ever recorded. My humble opinion 😎🙄
Thanks Mojopin, still haven’t lost hope that Glastonbury concert will someday be released in high quality
@Marcos Cerqueira Unfortunately, I doubt that will happen. Jeff’s Estate explored that option, several years ago, and I believe it was cost prohibitive. Additionally, according to Jeff’s cousin, who helps run the Buckley Estate with Jeff’s mom, Mary Guibert, the footage isn’t very good, apparently (whatever that means).
That little snippet of what will you say looks very good even in this “semi-improved” version, so don’t quite get the footage isn’t very good, but that’s just frustration in me speaking :-)
There is a great recording of. Mojo pin but not the entire set
I was there. It was a great concert but the crowd were pretty dead. Jeff told us to move around and "give security some shit" or something like that. He brought on Ben Watt from Everything But The Girl for one track. I want to say Eternal Life but I can't remember. It was almost 30 years ago now. The band were tight. Jeff sang really amazingly obviously but it was a daytime set on the mainstage and the crowd were a bit lethargic. Not everyone there seemed to really get what they were watching until he won them over after a few songs. That's my memory of the glasto set anyway.
I happened to be walking past the main stage at the start of his Glastonbury set. I didn't know who he was and had never heard of him, but I was stopped in my tracks and absolutely astonished. It was extraordinary.
The brightest light! He was truly special and the world has no idea what talent we lost!
I have 3 sisters and coincidentally we all love JB, unbeknownst to us.
I saw Jeff live in Melbourne and still one of the best concerts ever. Talent on steroids, it's such a pity
@user-cq4mv1z2x Do you recall any other video/television appearances of Jeff in Australia besides his ABC news interview with Jane Cunningham?
I live in Melbourne too...Whenever I see Palais theater I think of Jeff...Would you please share your experience with us ...

@@auss1eman I remember the show quite well. During the show the band started to play thrash music they we're amazing at the end of it a lady stands up and says "why do you play that rubbish Jeff". And Jeff says "Cause we dig it". And then played another thrash song. To me Jeff Buckley was a Bowie or a Prince, his voice was simply one of the best ever but musically next level.
I love it! Jeff playing a CD. 19:33
Fun fact Jeff gave Chris Cornell a red phone he used to talk to him and Chris would take that phone all over the world with him when doing his solo gigs and it was on stage with him
Jeff didn’t give it to him…
Ok then 🙄
I remember watching this.... Over 20 years ago. Jesus time really does just slip by

"The Flying Buckley's" ha, great phrase to describe Jeff's soaring voice
5:35 Where he got his looks from. Wow! Stunner.
My best friend tried getting me to listen to Jeff, and at the time i didn't want nothing to do with it, i remember 1 night i was sitting in my room amd downloaded the grace record and sat there and listened and i have been a fan ever since.

@kingofairandarkness8223 That would be Jesus of Nazareth.
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing. It’s hard to describe how much Jeff’s music moves me. It hits at a very deep level.
thank you very much.
Why record labels ignore the need of artists to recharge after a long tour and superstardom. Equally annoying is the underestimation of fans who will absolutely wait for a musician they love.
If you’re an artist you don’t recharge, your mind is constantly creating.
A major label deal is a devil’s bargain. For the label, it only works if sustained at a near impossible pace, or so they think. The more time that goes by out of the spotlight, the more discounted in dollar terms is their investment. I’m really impressed to see the rare patient label that knows it’s either the artist’s way or no way at all.
Thanks for this! First time i've come back to his music since he went away. What a soul.

One of If not the best documentary on Jeff yet! I became a fan right before Grace was released from a bad recording of a bill show and WOW! I left NYC in 96 with Grace in my Diskman and... Life changing.
Great story. Heard that album for the first time in 98 when I was 16, loved it ever since. Pity we didn't get to hear more from him. A bad loss for music.
A great documentary. Keep up the good work.

@@MojoPin1983 that makes sense. I have the you and I vinyl so that makes sense. I’m watching the whole doc right now. Thanks for keeping me from bed lol.
@@MojoPin1983 just watched the whole thing. What an incredible doc. Were there any others made that are known? Also do you know what the progress on his biopic is?
@@umraansyed Yes, there are several other docs, namely, Jeff Buckley: Fall in Light (1999), Jeff Buckley: Goodbye and Hello (2000), Jeff Buckley: Amazing Grace (2004). Also, there is a mini-documentary: Jeff Buckley - Grace EPK (which was expanded and released re-released as part of the Legacy Edition of Grace in 2004.

@MojoPin1983 This is great! Is this the best doc on him would you say? And any recommendations on a good book about him? I saw him play Reading in the early 90’s was amazing. Could tell he was special immediately.
@Glenvill_e Yes, this is definitely the definitive documentary on Jeff Buckley.
With respect to books, I’d recommend Dream Brother: The Lives & Music of Jeff & Tim Buckley by David Browne, as well as Jeff Buckley: From Hallelujah to the Last Goodbye by Dave Lory and Jim Irvin.
Jeff’s Reading performance can be found on CZcams. I believe that is where Henry Rollins - whose band performed that same day - was introduced to Jeff’s music.
“No one can be that good and survive, when every lyric coming out of your mouth must be taking years off of your life.”
- Henry Rollins on Jeff Buckley
@@MojoPin1983 thank you. I will definitely check those books out, and that’s a great quote from Rollins. You are running a great channel. All the best. 👍
Fun fact: Patti Smith hasn’t heard of Nair. Either that, or this was shot in November.
@SpaceJunk72 Because the night belongs to scissors.
at the end around the 58 minute mark the background music features a version of the 1995 dido´s lament from the meltdown festival. this version is much clearer than anywhere else, does anybody know if it has been released?
@erlendnordstrand9196 Not that I’m aware of. The BBC probably had access to the master tape, whereas the bootleg version might be a second or third generation copy.
I think if Jeff had been the lead singer of a band where everyone in the group had some input, he wouldn't struggled with the second album. The problem was, as a solo artist, Jeff called the shots, whereas in a group, it's often a team effort with one or two more creative participants. For instance, Morrissey and Marr of The Smiths (Jeff's favourite band).
TGA85 Good point. Jeff’s favourite band was Led Zeppelin, though.
Him and Michael were writing together here and there but it was mostly Jeff.
That couch that Chrissie Hynde is sat on was given to Nina Antonia the writer - and when I lived with her she told me that Jeff had slept on that couch . Naturally I tried sleeping on it too 😆
