- Six people are dead, including three children, after a train crashed into their SUV Saturday evening in Plant City as they were on their way to a birthday party.
During a news conference, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister explained seven people were inside a Cadillac Escalade when the crash happened - with five of them being "violently ejected" from the impact.
Video footage on the front of the freight train showed the driver of the SUV approaching the crossing, which reportedly wasn't signalized, in the area of Highway 92 and Jim Lefler Circle.

Strength to the conductor who lives with this tragedy. Not his/her fault and he might struggle with PTSD with the sheer magnitude of this tragedy. Please don't succumb. Its fate and destiny. Nothing you could do. Im so sorry this happened to all involved
The conductor isn’t the only one in that locomotive the engineer is who actually operates the train! Engineer sits on the right conductor sits on the left the conductor has the ability to throw the train into an emergency application but the controls are mainly on the locomotive engineer the news needs to do more research they are politically incorrect when they only mention the conductor if it’s a freight train, passenger train may use two crew members up front but it’s usually the engineer and conductor on a passenger train rides in the cars to collect tickets and watches the platform while unloading and loading
Bongo, such a beautifully heartfelt & sensitive comment you made...Bless the souls of all who are being affected by this unimaginable tragedy...

What a weird thing to comment
@@sarahkerns2472 how so? Thats literally what happened.
@danielh.9986 because you do not know the cause of the accident. It could’ve been a number of different things and the man who was driving was a loving father (emphasis on loving according to people who knew him). It’s ok to be heartbroken, it’s ok to sympathize, but assuming negligence is ignorant and unnecessary. An entire family is now resting and there are hundreds of people mourning. Again, this comment was weird.
Train horns are so damn loud, im guessing yhe driver eas trying to beat it to save a few minutes 😔
Never beat a train. You will not win. It may seam a train isn't going that fast but in reality it's going way to fast. Always stop. It's not worth it. 😮💨😔
God bless this family. That said I think it was driver error here that could’ve prevented it? Or is there more to the story like the crossing rails didn’t go down or what?

Trains can stop, once you put on the breaks, it can take at least up to a minute for a train to come to a complete stop. Might not stop right away, but it can stop.
@@cynant2912You are terribly wrong!!! Cars and motorcycles can't even stop in one minute. Weight and speed are factors in how far a train will travel before coming to a stop.
@@sharkbait3332Well we know at the end of the video it was a csx train so yea it could've possibly taken a whole mile for that train to come to a complete stop if its your typical CSX freight.
May the 6 victims rest in peace.
@@fade1980your absolutely wrong. If the train was a intermodal and it's going track speed which is 70 mph, it will take up to 2 or 2 1/2 miles to come to a stop and then you have slack action from the cars that will still move. Then if it was a manifest train doing 55mph then you have to worry about speed and weight of that manifest train which can also take up to 2 or 2 1/2 miles to stop and slack action so you do not have a clue to what you are talking about.
Absolutely correct 👍
It's hard to sympathize with anyone who gets hit by a train. Signal or not, it's a damn train and isn't going to sneak up on you.
I'd start with the locomotive engineer and conductor and the shop people who have to pick out automotive and body parts out of the wheels and trucks of a 2 mile monster. Then the 5 passengers along for the one Mile ride as the train dragged them during emergency braking. Hopefully the locals will be reminded at that crossing with piles of flowers for years to come, so they think twice.
I heard the driver was passing through the railroad crossing really slowly.
"For unknown and undetermined reasons, the driver slowly crossed the tracks directly in the train's path," the sheriff's office said in a statement on Sunday. "Five rear passengers were ejected from the Escalade as it rotated and rolled to final rest."
So the Driver should have been the only death but no that nutjob decided to take his whole entire family out.
Is it possible he was committing suicide and took the family out too?
@@pamelahogan8265 It's certainly possible, but there hasn't been any evidence of that yet. At least not that I've seen.
Can't you read? "The crossing lacked gates or a warning bell and was only equipped with a stop sign as well as a railroad crossing sign....the crossing in question does not have gates or warning lights because the road it is on is lightly traveled. Many collisions involving trains and cars generally occur at crossings without those safety features." If you CHOOSE not to sympathize with that, Mr. I'm Soooo Perfect, then that is your affair. Maybe you'll understand one day, when you meet a sexy lady called "Karma".

Illegals don’t take driving courses.
I feel sorry for the loss, but the state of Florida has a serious problem with people trespassing on railroads and drivers acting recklessly on tracks or disregarding train signals. This isn't a railroad problem, this is a problem of people's behavior that causes these kinds of incidents. I was just reading about more Brightline accidents involving trespassers and automobiles disregarding railroad safety as well.

I was on Amtrak Seattle to Salem one year. A person was struck by our Tran and, of course, died.
Before we stopped, there was a strong odor of burning brakes. We waited hours while the death was investigated and cleared.
Amtrak also sent a new crew to relieve the crew involved in the accident. It's their policy. It's probably for investigation purposes and the trauma for the team. That takes hours. It was traumatic for us passengers. If this was a passenger train, they would be impacted as well.

From what I understand about trains they are supposed to honk their horn before the get to the crossing so that drivers have ample warning not to go across. Of course it would have helped if there were arms that lowered across the tracks, blinking red lights and bell as added preventive safety measures. Did the train not have engine light on either? If it's dark in that area that train should have been visible if it had its front headlight on. They must have had music blaring/carrying on in conversation not to have seen/heard that train coming down the tracks. Even if the driver was distracted someone inside that SUV must have seen or heard something. RIP
Florida is actually the worst state in the entire country for car versus train collisions, and is one of the worst states in the country for train fatalities. Those collisions and fatalities are always due to the plethora of aggressive and reckless drivers in Florida. A collision like this one is always the fault of the driver and never the train’s fault!

CSX is not at fault for this accident, even though the family is going to sue and force CSX to pay for the driver’s negligence. Why cars want to sit on the train tracks is beyond me. Heavy freight trains cannot stop on a dime.
The reason why CXS will be responsible is because there's no light or cross bar on that section. The reason why there's only a stop sign is because it was a private residence. There was another bystander honking to warn which leads to the conclusion that the SUV was trying to beat the train.

I don't get it.... why didn't they stop for a train when they had plenty of warnings? Was it suicide? Did the horn not speak spanish? WHY?!!
The deceased driver had over 2 million miles as a professional truck driver so he knew the risk of trying to beat a train.
I always took extra care as a driver when I have passengers in my vehicle as I am duly responsible for their lives.
When I was younger, I almost had a train hit me. Here's what happened: In my city all train crossings had those reflective gates. So, there was no way you could unintentionally cross in the path of an oncoming train. Anyway, I was on a trip near Alamogordo, NM and I remember seeing the rail road crossing lights flashing, but I didn't see the "gates" closed, so I thought it was safe to cross. Luckily, I was speeding at about 70+ mph, and I crossed just as the train barely missed me. It looked as if the train was traveling 80mph! I remember thinking to myself, but how? Why?! The gates weren't lowered, how did the train just fly by?
That was the day I found out, not all crossings have safety gates. And, I thank God that I didn't die that night.
Duh
It's in every drivers manual, Stop Look and Listen
Fate has said it wasn’t your time to die . You should play the lottery ! 🤔
Train conductor tried to warn the driver but these folks more than likely had their radio blasting/caught up in conversation. Rarely see a railroad crossing without barrier/signals though. Private road or not every crossing should have safety features mandated by ordinance.
@EddieLeal, Well said.
(((✝️)))
Bombs are kinda over the top, don't you think?
Nah. It's just like the stupid blinking top lights they decided to put on school buses. The bright yellow on the huge bus should be more than enough to see, but people somehow still hit it. The blinking light on top just distracts everyone else. The train had a stop sign, the train's front light, and the train's horn (not to mention that train tracks themselves should be an obvious indicator you should watch out for trains). Darwin award. Also, people somehow still die to the trains that have the crossing arms, extra lights, and extra signs all around.
@@SmallBobby 😆I meant to say ordinance. Corrected. Thank you. I appreciate the hint. 😉
@@RevTox You're right. Still, I feel the barriers should be there as an added preventive measure for those with a few more brain cells than the ones you mentioned. Those fools heard, saw the warning of the incoming train and rolled the dice anyway. The driver in this video was more than likely distracted involved with what was going on inside the car than his driving/surroundings.
My personal opinion is IF that gate had been there to include the flashing lights and gate I feel it would have prevented this tragedy. Speculating of course. As you stated, some folks seem to want to go out of their way to tempt the reaper. They should have heard that horn not to mention other people that stated they tried to warn them with their car horn. I don't know what your particular philosophy is on death but in my humble opinion when your number is up there is nothing anyone or anything can do to keep you from your appointment with the reaper.
