I feel truly honoured and privileged to meet Dose in Bristol, UK, for a tour with Subtle. We spoke for a little while before the show when I told him how I thought ‘A New White’ is one of the most important albums of all time for me…immediately after the show some dude grabbed my arm and said…’so? Was that ok? Did you enjoy it…?’…it was Dose, grabbed me from the whole tribe of people there to finish our conversation post show! A truly humble and inspiring gentleman! My own fortunate career is made in part, by people like Dose who show the world that being who you are, should be the focus of how you conduct yourself! This is a wonderful interview especially hearing how we likely won’t see Dose perform as much in the future, makes me so so humbled to have shared a small piece of time together that crafted something bigger than maybe he realised! Stay Humble!

I also have a story about Dose performing out here in ATL. He was super cool and I pulled up on him at a Themselves show and my buddy couldn't make it. Long story short I caught Dose unloading the van and he let me put my buddy on the phone and talked to him and said he was gonna rock the show for him. Dose was everything back in the day. I was always into outsider music and was introduced to Them by my indie Guru, who worked at an underground recordstore in Toronto.
Totally changed the game for me. Anticon was awesome, and i got to do some steeet team work for their canadian appearances. I met Adam twice. He is seriously one of the most sincere and sweet guys. He wa's totally welcoming to us when we met (Also got to meet Jel and Alais that tour) A true artist. His performances are absolutely captivating.

yes brilliant freestyle rapper true artist, Dose one loved discovering your music when ever it was 12 years ago, man unbelievable poetic work, I listened the some of the recent albums briefly and I have to say good stuff, though its a far cry from, previous work, I would like to hear an album with lyrics though, mind you, i didn't listen to all, of the last two albums, so I'm mistaken, if there are any lyrics on them, although i will be putting them on when i'm writing and studying, they'll grow on me.

I grew up listening to a lot of underground hiphop as a kid(in my mid 30's now). Anticon was one of the labels in rotation for sure. This was before graffiti took completely over my life. Eventually during my traveling I got to hang out with someone that knew Circus. I guess he was told a bit about me. I always enjoyed that time era of Hiphop the most. A lot of random raw stuff coming from all angles. Really miss it. One of my favorite during that time was the was one of the GrandFathers of Canadian Hiphop, Sixtoo. Legendary. It's funny. I'm working on an album after years of turntablism, getting thrown in jail for graffiti, getting into fights over beef, getting interviews in graff mags, etc, etc... I still just come back to stuff like 1200-Hobos, old Jel, Alias, and such. It has a bit of that Boards of Canada feel. I'm from where BoC lived at one point here in Canada so they are were a big deal around here at one point. Those were the days. I still really can't stand mainstream anything... Thank you Anticon, Sixtoo, BoC, Mr.Dibbs and such for showing the way. True Pioneers breaking the barriers of Hiphop into other territory. Also.. I notice an IslaS2400 in the background of DoseOne. Haha. That's awesome. I got one next to me.

Yeah I remember when battles started having folks come in with these premeditated bars and would slaughter people that were doing pure freestyles. I am from ATL and I remember Iron Solomon came to a battle I was in down here at he Atrium on the east side and absolutely outshined everyone mixing off top with premeditated punches. After that I looked him up and saw the Smack DVD stuff which was all written. It was a significant pivot moment for freestyle battlers and you saw the awkward shift in the early 2k's, by 2010 nobody was freestyling anymore.

  • @tocsin9651

Dose literally face palmed me at a show while he was on stage at the last Themselves tour at the empty bottle. I was just dancing and having a good time and even bought a shirt from him and Jel at the merch table before hand. I never understood why he did it, but I just kept dancing and loving the music any way. Both A7PHA records are incredible. His collab with Alias (much love) is some of the best hip hop in the last decade by far. No Goodbyes makes me cry just about every time I hear it. Even though Jel added some flavor to the last A7PHA album I would love to hear some more from those two. Alias and Jel are two of the greatest to ever pounce in my opinion. Seeing Themselves open for OM was wild. Every time I saw Subtle on stage it was top notch. 13 and god were amazing as well.

I met Sole way back from my brother SU of Unified School District when they use to get on an early rap chat site. Then many years later SU and I signed the lease in "The Compound" as Murs called it in Oakland. Next door to Stat7 with Doze Green and LL 2 doors down. We became the HA Mansion. Wild ass times for sho! Then bein graff, hip hop skaters had to get away from each other before we handled each other. Still bummed we left JazOne(Beats) behind... I think Legends were starting to make the move to LA? SU and I were still on the lease, so he said Sole and Anticon would move in and take over paying. Wonder who stayed in my old room, the first room to the left when you came through the door?
